You can add me to the list for going.  Work schedule opened up pretty last minute making this a go.  I'll be meeting you guys at the trail head Saturday morning.

Sorry to hear, Rick...

What kind of weather are we expecting?  I'm monitoring the local areas, but I'm getting high 80's from what I can tell....I see we're camping at 9k feet, so I'm assuming it will be much cooler....anyone have a decent idea of what to expect?

If it's anything like last year.  First night cold as S@#$,  Second night much better at the lower altitude.

Yeah, it got pretty cold the first night.  The 2nd night we had such a huge bonfire going that you had to be 30ft away from the flames to avoid your face melting off.  It was much more comfortable temperature-wise.

Not sure what time you plan on getting up there on Friday, but just know that it gets kind of "crowded" out there over Memorial Day weekend. Before last year's trip, the wife and I drove through the Alabama Hills on Friday afternoon/evening, about 2 hours before sunset. Pretty much every place that had halfway decent shelter from the wind or sun had a motorhome or camper trailer parked at it. Several more people were coming in to the area on the main road and scrambling to find a place before the sun went down. I put "crowded" in quotation marks because there was still TONS of room out there of course, but all of the good spots were taken pretty quickly. I suppose it doesn't really matter if you're just looking for a place to park yourself for one night.

Yea I was kind of thinking the same thing. It's just me and the dog so of it comes down to it I'll just park off the road and sleep in my truck. I'll check it out and play it by ear once I get up there.

Attendee list updated.  I will get a current weather report this week from the caretaker at Cerro Gordo.

So I will be heading up tomorrow, leaving Kearny Mesa around noon.  I should be in to Lone Pine no later that 1800.  It turns out that I was a little slow on the reservations this year so I am actually staying at the Timberline in the middle of town, instead of the Comfort Inn.    That means I will be in Lone Pine all Friday.  I may head over to the Graboid Museum and maybe poke around the Alabama Hills.  Shall we plan on getting together for food on Friday evening?  I know the pizza place was disappointing last year.  Sounds like FrankB found some good spots to eat on his recent trip.  Anyone have preferences or suggestions?

I won't get into Lone Pine until 10pm or so, but I'm staying at the Comfort Inn both nights, so I'm down to do some local stuff Friday; I do have shopping to do though, as well, so I need to keep time for that too...

I'll let someone else chime in with dinner spots tho...

If you are getting groceries, there is a Stater Bros and a Walmart Supercenter on opposite sides of the road in Adalanto, Hwy 395 and Palmdale Road.  Probably a better selection and prices than you will find in Lone Pine.

I'll be there hopefully around 1500. The Graboid museum and some Chinese food would by D-Y-N-O-M-I-T-E!
