Topic: Rear end bounces

After hitting bumps in the road or pot holes the rear end bounces around and gives a feeling of a loss of control. I bought this car 2 years ago used from a dealer. Other then the timing belt, radiator being replaced I don't know too much more of the maintenance history. The rears look like they have some KYB shocks but again I don't know how old they are.

Could this issue be due to failing suspension (shocks) as well as the leaf springs? After doing the PML in the front to level it out going over bumps it feels like the front shocks are topping out. Would the Bilstein shocks for vehicles with a 3" lift solve this issue?

The Gen 1 has quite a bit of rake on it in stock form. (Nose Down). Rake helps with stability and road manners. If you remove the rake, you have to adjust your driving habits.
   Your also living at the top end of your suspensions travel. This means you don't have much droop, or negative travel. The tires can't extend out of speed bumps or into pot holes.
   There is also no way of telling how old or beat your current set up is. Its time for some updates and upgrades.
    The best part is that you notice a need for it. Its not random money spending on a perceived need.

If it just started doing it, it sounds like you need shocks.

PML's and spacer lifts never give the vehicle a better ride. Time to upgrade to a full SL: new shocks, UCA, torsion bars, shackles, and an add a leaf.

Or SAS it with some coil overs and ride like a caddy

To answer your question specifically, YOU NEED SHOCKS BADLY!  What youre descibing is proof that the shocks are not only bad, but they are dead.  Let me explain.  A bad shock losses gas and/or oil when the seals go out but still works.  A dead shock has completely faildd and allows that bouncing you described to happen.

For a good budget shock, ProComp or Rancho RS5000.

Sweet thanks for the help. Now just time to find the right shocks at the right price. I was quoted a little over 300 for Bilstein out the door from 4wheelparts.

You don't even need to lift the truck off the ground to install shocks.

If you need, I have my stock rear shocks that I took off when I did my PRG Advanced Coilover Kit on my 2010 X.  You can have them for free if you need.  They are in great shape still. I'll have to dig up my paperwork but I can get you the exact mileage on them when they came off.

I have been pricing new shocks for a while. I am leaning towards the Bilstien shocks as I know more about them as far as reputation and history. As far as the other manufacturers I don't know too much about them.

Yeah? I am kind of on a budget till my VA disability comes in. Its been almost a year and thank goodness it is retroactive to when I filed, March 21, 2013.

Right now I am looking at the 4x4parts.com 3" articulation kit, for 1300 its not a bad deal. I priced it out piece by piece and it was over 1400.
