Ironman sponsoship
« on: October 27, 2012, 08:07:08 PM »
I ordered my leaf packs recently from Ironman Suspensions in New Jersey, originally from Australia, were they are as big as ARB or TJM but new to the US.   The owner, his name slips my mind, took my order down and in chit-chatting, we got on the subject of the Sccx.  He mentioned that he has a home in Las Vegas and travels into SoCal often.

Being that his company is new to the US, he needs publicity and word to get out about the huge lineup that they have.  Front and rear bumpers, skid plates, HID lights, complete and component suspension systems, air compressors, winches and accesories, trail gear, roof top tents, vehicle awnings, camping gear, trail fridges/freezers, trunk shelves, etc.

The owner wants to be a sponsor and possibly join the club.  Who does he have to talk to?

I sent an email last week asking for information on his RTT, Awning, Fridge, Battery System. I have not heard back yet...

As far as sponsoring the club, I read in here somewhere that its better if the business owners/persons join us on the club runs to see what we can do and gives us a chance to feel them out for products as they relate to our Nissans.

As far as joining personally (without sponsoring), that's up to him... BOD's correct me if I'm wrong.

Hurricane Sandy hit them pretty hard.  They are in New Jersey and the power just got restored.  They are still catching up.

As for sponsoring, you are correct as to what you read.  I need to see when he can come out here personally to join us.

Irwin..I would say hold off on promoting the sponsorship.  After talking with a few of the other BOD's, courting sponsors as reps of SCCX is a slippery slope.  (meaning don't)

We are not set up for advertising etc., and have had several inquiries about banner ads/sponsorship etc.  This is not a direction the Club wants to or in my opinion should go right now.

If we were to find a local company (similar to Off Road Performance Parts or Rugged Rocks) that was owned and operated by a member of SCCX, and they wanted to throw some swag (t-shirts, stickers, etc.) our way, that is fine.

But anything else might be a mis-representation of what the SCCX site/Club could offer.

Hope that helps, and I personally appreciate you looking into this.

If you speak with him Irwin let him know we appreciate the offer, and if he wants to join us on a run and talk more we would all welcome that.

As the Operations Mgr., he's currently dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane and trying to get the company orders back on track.  He wanted to come out here early in the spring.  We have plenty of time to plan something.

Ironman sucks!  They genuinely blow!  Paid $500 for their leaf springs, u-bolts, and bushings.  After keeping the bushings and returning everything because THEY REALLY DON'T MAKE ANYTHING FOR THE XTERRAS afterall, they only gave me back $311.  They made me pay for the shipping both ways.  $160 total even though they made the mistake.  Tried to argue it but to no avail.  Never again.

I really hate to throw salt on a open wound, but I have to ask...

Why did you pay $500 for AAL's from an Australian company, when there's plenty of US companies that sell AAL's for Xterra's for half the price?

Before you rip into me for asking a stupid question, please know that I'm totally on your side, and might not understand the situation.
I love it when a plan comes together

Its ok, its not a stupid question.  Those are new, complete leaf springs they were offering, not AAL's.  After pricing new leaf sets, they seemed like the better choice vs. Deaver, Atlas, and Alcon which started at $750 + up.

The problem is that the 00-04 1st Gen Xterra's are known worldwide as a WD22 model.  They thought that the old Frontier model, known as a D22. would match up.  Those leaf springs are 4" in. too short and only have half the arch of an Xterra's leaf pack.  Those $200 I lost could've paid for A new set of Deavers.  This just goes to show everyone that a better isn't neccesarily a better option.  Learn from my mistake.  >:-{

On the plus side I got the AAL kit from 4x4parts.com and the truck looks and feels awsome!  Shocks are too short and shot, and my 31s look small.

Some people may think that's a bad thing.  Unless, of course, you're part of the offroad community.  It's always fun to look forward to the possibilities of a bigger, badder and more capable rig.  But it's a shame you weren't able to use some of the lost money toward something other than "lesson learned."

Yeah, that would have paid for the Bilstein 5125 shocks I need.

So...do you think they are still interested in sponsoring an SCCX Xcursion?
