You are invited to an evening with the stars.

WHAT: Take a trip to outer space while keeping your feet on the ground in Lakeside. Volunteers from the San Diego Astronomy Association will bring high-powered telescopes to Goodan Ranch Sycamore Canyon Preserve to give the public spectacular views of constellations and celestial bodies such as the Andromeda Galaxy, the Swan Nebula, Hercules Globular Cluster, as well as planets such as Jupiter and Uranus. The preserve is a great place to see the night sky away from the bright lights of the city. For additional information about this and future events at the preserve, please contact park staff at (858) 513-4737 or visit www.sdparks.org.

WHEN: Friday, February 27th, 2009 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m (Please note, cloudy skies or rain
could cancel the event.)

WHERE: Sycamore Canyon Preserve staging area, 13920 Highway 67 at Sycamore Park Drive in
Lakeside; Thomas Guide page 1191, E-5

Great! Hopefully we'll get to see some of the recent mysterious lights seen in El Cajon...

Residents In El Cajon Spot Bizarre Lights In The Sky
Some residents in El Cajon had their eye on the sky after spotting some bizarre lights. NASA did launch a satellite Monday night, but the flashes over the East County were spotted way before that.

Wish I could make it, really.  I've been trying to teach my son about astronomy and a bit more notice time would've been nice.  2-3 weeks in advance min.

Actually this Star Party was organized by San Diego Parks and Recreation... I just posted it in case someone would be interested.

Some of our fellow SCCX members are quite knowledgeable and properly equipped with gear and stuff... perhaps we can plan sometime in the future when circumstances are better.... cool?  ;)

I will definitely post future star partys that I come across with... meteor showers... things like that...

If all else fails, we can always watch a movie courtesy of your OZ-some outdoor theatre *wink *wink  ;)

Yeah.  I actually left a little early to eat dinner before and it was clear.  45 minutes later it was over cast.  I checked the SDParks website for an update but they didn't mentioned it was canceled.  Since I was 10 minutes away i decided to check it out but park was closed.  Would have been cool to still hang out with people and check out the equipment and shoot the breeze.

Yeah Jeff... we drove out there too. It cleared up a bit when we got there but the entrance was closed. I was hoping to run into you, Marty and Frank(?) since it was just in your neck of the woods.

We were actually planning on having a little picnic up there...  :D

Oh well... next time...  :(

If there's no Star Party organized, we can always catch the International Space Station when it passes our county/region... just click on your area....

Here's San Diego area...

I saw it before and just in time... very distinct and quite a sight!  :o

Pics are not mine... but it would look similar...

$100 billion bottle rocket!
That's the Space Station.
Almost any place away from the city lights could give you same awsome pics!
