Jeep Club Hate

First post is very interesting, as well as the subsequent posts.  This is one of the big reasons (along with the huge aftermarket  :P) that I enjoy my Xterra.

It's the people.

Xterra/Nissan folks as a whole just seem to be alot more friendly, and accepting.  One of the reasons why I enjoy SCCX so much.

Inclusive...not exclusive.

This is an awesome group, so any comparison is going to be a little unfair.  But I too have run into Jeep clowns.  Whatever!!
On a good note, the 'Just Runs' guys (mostly jeeps from SD area that Terry has impressed with his X) just sent six rigs out last week to rescue an Xterra that was so stuck in Corral Canyon that the owner had to leave it there a few nights until the boys got everyone together.  So let's not let the barrel spoil these good apples ;)      Well done Just Runs :-*

That sort of reaction from a Jeep club doesn't surprise me, but keep in mind that not all Jeep owners are like that.  We have at least one member of SCCX who sold his Xterra a long time ago and got a Jeep (he called it the Torsion Bar Deletion Mod, or something like that) and he is always very welcome at any club gathering or run.  Also, if you look at the pictures from the last 2 years or so of my trips out to Anza Borrego you'll notice a certain white Jeep on almost every trip.

Just out of curiosity - what's the story on the Xterra at Corral Canyon?

I talked to Roger Mullins (Founder of Just Runs) and he said it was a relatively new Xterra owner, who got into trouble when he went down a steep embankment and ran into a stump.

I certainly don't want to imply any stereotype regarding Jeep owners...

In particular, the ones who seemingly ignored the X owner when he tried to join their 'club'

Im sorry. No really....Im sorry, you have a disco  ;D j/k  ;)

I had an old first gen Disco that was beat up and held together with camo duct tape. We used it on our family hunting spread in WI.

Gave us more troubles than it was worth, but man did i go through some mud!!

There are good peeps in all groups for sure, and the Haters in the shadows.

By the way, I saw the Green X crashed above and thought that color was fitting for the GremlinX. I know a great paint shop  ;D
Im going to have molten lava streaks airbrushed on my X  :o

where's Corral Canyon? Is that a green, blue, black trail? . . .

Corral Canyon is a Federal OHV area (National Forest Pass required) in eastern San Diego County, not too far from Campo.  It sounds like this incident occurred on the Espinosa Trail, which is not actually in the OHV, but runs from the top of Los Pinos Mountain down to the road that encircles the OHV.  Espinosa is a fun trail - I don't know what green, blue, black means - someone else will to answer that.  I can tell you that the couple times I've run it I've not made contact with my sliders or skids, but was glad they were there.  Good A/T tires and a bit of lift make a big difference.  That trail can get really eroded in spots.  Others times it's not too bad.  Last time there was a fallen tree with a rather steep approach bypass carved around it.

I think the last time SCCX ran this as a club was in July of 2006. Starting the next day it was closed for a few years due to a large fire (the Horse Fire) and subsequent time needed to restore the area.

Here's a shot from 2006 that I think was at the same spot as the incident, from the pictures shown. This is looking up the hill in the other direction. I think my Xterra was pretty stock in those days.

The SCCX picture thread from that run went away when the old website crashed, but here is a link to my personal gallery of shots from that trip.  It's a fun trip, but we probably could have picked a cooler day - it was about 100F, and humid.  After a fair number of u-turns we finally found our way to 4 Corners, then took the one-land paved shelf road to the top of Los Pinos Mountain to visit the fire lookout, then took Espinosa back down to Corrall Canyon Road.

I went back again in July of 2010, not long after it re-opened, with some friends in their Jeep. Here's the start of Espinosa just after leaving the fire lookout. It's pretty much all downhill from here.

I think this is that same spot, again looking at it from the lower part looking back uphill.

Fallen tree.

Here's a link to my gallery of pictures from that day.

According to my class in Boolean logic, it kinda goes like this:

Not all Jeepers are clowns.  Some are very, very nice people.

But if you are a clown wanting to look like a 4wheeler, then you would buy a jeep and only hang out with other clowns so that nobody would notice your big red nose.
