Big Bear, JT, Idyllwyld, etc??
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:23:32 AM »
Hey everyone, kinda new to the forums here and looking for some camping advice. I got a little time next week off from work and hoping to go take out my rig for some trails and just a couple nights out under the stars. Any good spots y'all know of thats easily accessible, trails are open this time of year, and campground or backpacking spots are available. I was looking into Joshua Tree and Big Bear but can't find any trails that people talk about that are fun to drive and camp (sounds like just day trips) but please let me know! Hope to join some of the new events going on soon. Happy Trails!

A fun area is the old dale mining area just north of Joshua tree, there's lots of trails and mine ruins to explore.  There are even a couple old mining shacks that are good places to camp.  When I get off work I can post up some coordinates to some nice spots to see and camp

Idyllwild

We go up the hill quite a bit. We've never camped up there. Scenic. Very easy to get turned around up there if not familiar with the forest.

Nice map!  I've been to dale a few times for geocaching and didn't spend much time exploring. Sad to see over the years lots of junk has been removed.  Reading your map descriptions it sounds like I need to make another trip out there and check these spots out!  Thanks for posting it.
This isn't Santa's Workshop.  This place smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me.
