Topic: PC gurus, need some advise

Now that summer is here, my PC has been acting up due to over heating.
These are my specs with the temps while in Idle, and when im running a game (ARK)

any suggestions on what route to go?
currently I have 4 1800rpm enermax case fans and 1 1200rpm factory fan. 2 intake 3 exhaust. Temps are with the case side open (no cover). Enermax Coenus Mid tower being used as well. PC is placed in a tile floor with no obstructions.

If you're for a simple, cheap fix: replace your fans with some higher CFM fans, maybe in the 100cfm area and get a fan controller. Make sure you have enough molex connectors off your PS for fans and the controller itself. You probably just need more air to push around, and keep the case enclosed. I've got six 120cfm fans (2 intake from below, 1 intake on the side, and 3 exhaust up top) and they push around a ton of air. Be weary of increased noise though.

If you want a slightly better fix, invest in a better tower with better breath-ability and more fan placement. If you want even better, go water cooled.

These readings are post upgrade. I upgraded my fans to 120m 120cfm. Was considering water cool my CPU but that only fixes 1 temp. Im now worries on all of my temperatures... I could go with a bigger case but I rather build a whole new gaming pc.

Best to keep the covers oIn and let the fans do their job, what could cooler do you have? Have you replaced the thermal compound from what comes with it?

This PC was put together no more than 2 years ago. so im sure the thermo compound still good. I been reading that AMD processors do tend to run bit hotter than intel

What CPU cooler do you have? Are you using the one that came with the processor? Does it look like this?

and get some better thermal compound, the stuff that comes on most coolers is crap.


AMD has always run hotter than Intel, I used to have AMD back in the day and just to keep it cool I was running a fan that sounded like a hair dryer, switched to Intel and never looked back.  I have been running water cooling on the CPU, motherboard chipset and GPU for about 6 years now and will never go back to air cooling.  A little more maintenance but so worth it for a computer that stays on all the time.

Once you fix the cpu cooler, the rest of your component temps will go down drastically.

I am running the factory cpu fan and rad. I would love to go with that kind of cpu cooler but my mid tower case has limited space, same goes with a prebuilt water cooler kit but its more doable.

unless your motherboard has components that interfere with a cpu cooler like that, the height should be no issue.  If you want, get one of the tower coolers that has a 92mm fan as that will be slightly smaller(shorter and narrower) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835220061

IMO getting a more efficient cpu cooler is the only way to cool the cpu better, the stock coolers that come with AMD chips are a joke for how much heat the CPU's put out. 

You can upgrade the case fans with them all blowing 1000cfm but if you can't extract that heat away from the CPU, it doesn't do much good and you'll spend more on fans than the CPU cooler which is the important part after all.
