Fabbing sliders this weekend
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:51:36 PM »
Going to be fabbing some sliders this weekend for my X... Does anyone have any suggestions for builds?

My X is a 4x2 so I don't really plan on doing to much sliding, but I bent up the stock one's pretty good.

Going to post photo after we are done.. If everyone goes well, going to fab a rack for the roof.

I would head on over to thenewx.org and search their site for slider blueprints and pix of before/after

Also, there's a couple of guys here who have fabbed stuff up on their own....I'd peruse some build pages and see if you can glean any info from that...

Good luck!

Just cause your 4x2 doesnt mean you'll wont need good sliders. I have full Armor and I have used it and I have done alot of things that 4x4 guys have done. So my recommendation is make strong and dont be afraid to use them.

And if you need anything with the roof rack let me know since I just built mine.

Alright.. everything turned out pretty well. Take a look. A little pic heavy.

So we started with our material

Cut to shape and made some smaller bars and notched them:

Then we tacked welded them

then they looked like this:

Cleaned them up and finished welding them then sprayed them:

Let them dry and then confirmed measurements on the frame and tack welded them on:

Everything looked straight so we finished up the welding:

And voila, we are done:

I am pretty stoked with how everything came out. They are welded directly to the frame and made from 2" steel. Super strong. We own a sign company so we got to use a lot of the equipment. This weekend I will be lifting my truck (PML, spacer lift) then the next mission is to fabricate a rack.

Those came out nice. Makes me wish I had access to a welder.
