ARB Awning Alteration Question
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:13:20 PM »
Any of you guys/gals running with an ARB Awning mounted on your rig I've got a question for you.  I want to mount an awning lengthwise inside the rear lip of my Leer 700 fiberglass tonneau cover parallel with the tail gate. The inside dimensions are ~58".  The closest sized ARB awnings are the 1250 mm (~49"; too short) or 2000 mm (~78"; too long).  My question is this; If I were to get the 2000 mm, can the HW be cut down to a width near ~58" wide and then reassembled.  And the awning fabric itself, is it on a roller or does it just get rolled up during tear-down.  I would assume that needs to be cut to width also.  The poles that extend out, are they fixed length and it appears that they are at a minimum the length of the main channel, will they need to be shortened also.  The awning fabric itself could be altered and is possibly the least of my concerns.  Anyway, the plan is to be able to mount this under the rear lip of the tonneau and when raised opened, the awning can then be setup out over the rear of the truck.  I may just have to live with the 49" being a little short but I'd really like to get a better sized fit...  Thanks for any suggestions...

I'm not familiar with the ARB but if its on a roller, it would take some good fabbing skill to be able to cut it down and get it to work right. I would say go with the shorter. Its only 5" on each side. If mounted properly, it should look just fine.

Hi Mark,

I just sent you a PM and can help you with the details. It is totally doable in my opinion.

Fred,

Thanks, I got the PM and your input on this task.  We'll have to hook up soon.  The next few weeks are ultra-crazy, but after that we'll set something up so I can look at your ARB awning and take some measurements.  Thanks again!

Mark...do a quick search for custom RV awnings.  Mine yielded some interesting results.

Fun In The Shade

These guys, Gordigear, actually have a rear mounted awning that measures 4.5 feet, or 54 inches.  Might be right up your alley:

And who doesn't love to say their stuff is "made in Austrailia mate!"

Their tent room looks pretty sweet!  Would be nice and easy.
