Title: AAT BBQ
Post by: Celt on September 01, 2015, 08:58:53 PM
Hey gang, looks like the annual AAT BBQ in Fawnskin is approaching to thank all of your volunteers who work hard maintaining those trails. They would like me or Motorpig77 to send them a list by name of everyone who wishes to attend by September 13th. Per the organizers (Angela Cook) no RSVP no eat.... I like to eat, so make sure we get this done right. The date is Saturday Sept 26th, Noon to 1600. They will provide the food (BBQ beef, chicken pork with rolls and sides). It looks like if you want bottled water there is a small fee or you can simply bring your own beverage of choice. They wish to know how many children under 14 will be there so they can have a goodie bag for them. They are doing a bake off as well so you can bring something baked to add to the feed and they will have an award for that too. Send me a PM if you do not wish to put your full name on the forum and I will compile a list and get it to Ms. Cook of anyone from SCCX who will be in attendance.

This was fun last year.

I ran Jacoby with a bunch of FJs and Jeeps.
Had some BBQ then turned it into a camping trip at Hanna Flats.

Just throwing it out there as a reminder that there is a mod day scheduled in SD on the same day:

http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,3244.0.html

I remembered because it's my wedding anniversary, and I won't be attending either fun event.

Won't be able to make it.  I will be in the Sierras drinking beer and kicking rocks with a bunch of other geologists.

Not in the least bit - kick them, smell them, taste them, stare at them, whack them with a hammer - it is all in a day's work!

You can camp up there all you want. I don't think anyone has put any info out about any SCCX runs but I'm relatively sure some of the crowd up there in attendance is going to go wheeling.

SO here is a thought...we can get up there a little early and get that oldsmobile moved off the trail in the morning and then be done and get some free grub for our efforts! I'm free on the 26th to do both! Randy, Erik, Steve C...you guys in for this?

Erik, if you don't mind submitted the list, that would be awesome! I'll plan on bringing my kids for the extra labor! So, me +2 kids, one of which will be under 14.  Thanks!

If you guys don't mind please send me first and last names through PM as the organizers need this info to order enough food. I have to submit this info NLT 9/13/15.

This may be a silly question, but they're not going to hand you all of our shirts and expect payments at this event, are they? If so, you better start collecting some $$ from everyone.  :o

I know there is always convo's going on behind the scenes.  Did anyone firm up camping, trail runs, or Oldsmobile extraction plans?  'Cuz we are down for all three!  We are available for camping both nights, night run, day run, food eating, and trail cleanup.  LMK

Count me in for any trail runs on Saturday, 2N02 AAT, and possibly camping Friday night.
Just found out today that I have to work all Saturday, so I'm out... sorry I can't make it to the BBQ (nor the mod day). :(

Sorry, I've been away in Antarctica, artificially inseminating penguins.

We are up for Olds hauling, AAT/Verizon lunch, some light wheeling and maybe camping if enough knuckleheads chime in.

Clint: Are you bringing the trailer up in he morning?

Hey Campers!!!  It's time to speak up!  Don't make me pull over the car, or you'll all get it >:D

I'm in...why don't we do the length of 2N02 from Pioneer town into Big Bear? Should not take more than 4 hours, if we start at 8am we'll be in time for lunch.
Or if that's to early, meet at the AAT event, then follow 2N02 after lunch and camp somewhere along the trail? Rose mine is a cool spot, with trees and level area's for tents. No fire's though, and camping without a fire is not really camping.
Anyhow, I'll be at AAT event with camping gear, we can make it up as we go

I'd love to join in both the trail run and bbq, but I've got to keep an eye on my ailing grandmother. Family comes first.

I don't think Clint can make this, but I'll let him speak for himself. Hope he can make it.  We are looking forward to meeting the rest of this motley crew.    ;)

Agreed - family first, ALWAYS.  Hopefully things work out that you can attend.

X2 for eating, trail, camping.  No fire? No worries, I'll bring Bourbon.....  >:D

We may camp Friday as well - depends on the Ham install thingy.

Hey gang, Nilda and I can't make Friday night, cuz we'll be at 'the theatre' 8)  We need a 'snooty' emoticon.

Since my new CB won,t show up til Tuesday I hope PR gets their Ham going.  Sorry 'bout me.

I'm up for meeting somewhere before the lunch, to do some dirt, then play it by ear if it's only our three trucks.

We WILL make our own FUN ;D

Won't be able to leave work early Friday, so not camping either.
What's the final answer? Meet early Saturday and trail run before event, or meet at event and wing it from there
Call a friend, ask the audience, remove the incorrect option

Duffer - HAM IN!! ;D ;D  WOOT!!  ;D ;D

Here's a fun trip: https://goo.gl/F6jGLp (https://goo.gl/F6jGLp)
We could meet at the park 'n ride on Kickapoo Trail, then go kick some ... dirt?
What about aiming to depart at 8:30am...will give us ample time to do the trail at leasurely pace and stop when needed for trail cleanup/maintenance and sight seeing...like the old Spanish Smelter, I have a rough idea where it is (http://deathvalleyjim.com/2013/08/26/spanish-smelter/ (http://deathvalleyjim.com/2013/08/26/spanish-smelter/))

That sounds great Hennie, Thanks for stepping up, I like finding new trails in (and out) of BB.

We are bringing our camping gear (beer) for Sat.  We can pick a spot up there.  Maybe the Rangers will hook us up ::)

Last call for Wheelers!!!

PR, great job on the Ham 8) ;D

I just got my new CB hooked up, but I may have to tune it though.  I got the thingy meter to do it.

See ya in the morning.  Woo Whoooo

Well, for all of you whimps with 'better' things to do; PainRoller, Sdcaklr and The Duffman had a ball searching out the hidden trails that we never find the time to do with large groups.  Info on these gems will be doled out on a need-to-know-basis >:D  Hint: off shoots of 2N02 and short cuts to Hanna Flats.
The BBQ had beef, pork, chicken, and a dessert competition :D  We came home with one appreciation award and 2 raffle prizes that PainRoller and KLR won, and offered to the club as trail prizes at CANVAS :o
I will let the others fill you in on the good times, camp fire lies, etc.  I'm so very tired.

"Accepting the 'over three hundred hours posted' award for the ONLY Xterra club in the AAT program is The Duffman" (huge roar from the crowd, reportedly heard on Lake Arrowhead).

't was a great weekend! Only 3 rigs but loads of fun. We did 2N61Y, mostly blue but one black spot.  Luckily there's a bypass, and since I'm still on stock suspension I was the weak link and lowered the group cg, so we opted for that option. Still, a couple of 'do I really have to go through there?' spots.  This station wagon amazes me every time. AAT was interesting..stuff campfire stories are made off, but you had to be there :)
YP7 is a good camping spot, I need to keep list of those YP's with my camping gear.
