Hit a local trail today, SAS was well worth it. Found a weak point. Stock wagoner steering components not up to par. I Will have to swap with 1 ton TRE and DOM tubing.

That's a nice dropoff in the first picture. 8) What did you do to get your steering fixed on the trail? Love your coilovers. ;D
-
nothing on the trail it was still drivable, I drove it home like that.
-
Nice SAS man. X looks awesome. Where are you stationed at right now? I'm at Pendleton, along with several others.

I'm no longer in.

I was with 2/4 SSP out of Mateo. STA no longer exists, at least not in the 5th Marines.

Nice pics. Looks like it was a good run.

Picked up a Tx10 from an 88 Pathfinder.
Plan: Rebuild internals and install AC crawler gears, then swap out the Xterra Tx10.
Why? 88 Pathfinder Tx10 has a larger stronger chain than a 04 Xterra Tx10. Stock to stock nearly twice as strong. Will be easier to work on the 88 Tx10 than to remove the 04 Tx10 and work on it. Once 88 Tx10 is ready, will do the swap. (was told they share the same exterior housing and will bolt in the same)
Will be a slow process, but hey its a start in the right direction.
-
Good find James. You're in no hurry, you haven't even broken the stock one yet ;D
-
That's true, but I want those crawler gears.
-
Nice James...with 5.13's and that TC you should be able to climb walls.
-
I finally got around to redoing my storage area.
All credit goes to sionnach from clubxterra.org for designing the box. (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36778 )
His write up and pdf made this project very simple. Although some knowledge on cabinet work is needed along with proper tools.
From beginning to end, the project took me approximately 36 hours of labor over 6 days.
-
Nicely done.
-
That came out really clean James.

Well played!

Thanks to Ruination Fan I was able to get my snorkel installed. Thank you Ruination Fan for mailing me your template. Good Karma has been sent.
K/N Apollo used. Apollo offers a K/N cone filter which is fully enclosed and protected.
Thanks to DannyX and Xterra Performance I added Xterra Rear Window Metal Molle covers. http://www.xterraperformance.com/2000-2004-Xterra-Rear-Window-Metal-Molle-cover-_p_164.html . I added some khaki paint to go with the rig and then it was a very quick install. 3 screws per side and 1 zip tie per side.
I will be attaching pouches soon to the covers, working on configuration.
-
Wow James. Very cool. Now you are ready for scuba :D
-
Molle covers look great James. Well organized machine. :)
-
Thanks John, now it's organized with the pouches.
-
Christmas came early this year. Just ordered crawler gears from AC.
Opened the 88 Tx10, looks brand new. I dont think the previous owner ever even put it in 4x4 and man the size of that chain. All connectors appear to swap over, might just lose my 4x4 dash light.
-
Cool Merry Christmas!!!

Crawler gears 3.7 to 1 installed into the 88 Pathfinder Tx10 (compliments of Kenny
-
check the switch, see if its normally open or closed, find switch thats the opposite, problem solved :D

That involves to much work. And I don't fill like dropping the case again. From my research people say the light goes away completely so oh well least I got a light...lol

Your heading into trailer territory....
-
Hey it drives just the same, only 4lo is uber slow.
-
Right wish that I could do that to a Gen II. I have searched for different gearing for the transfer case and don't seem to be able to. So James you got any gearing insights?
-
two options: 1. Atlas transfer case with the available adaptor plates. 2. Perhaps a divorced transfer case to mount behind your current case.
Terry, you should ask Deadpilot about his Divorced NP 205 swap. The 205 has a 3.1 reduction gear set available.

Thanks I will

Xterra pinion fix
For the past couple 4x4 trips I had noticed a noise coming from my front drive shaft and that I was going through U joints rather quickly. After talking with The King we noticed the pinion angle was not set up correctly for the SAS. The pinion was parallel with the output of the T case. This is correct if you

That fits well, I'm looking forward to get the stereo installed in my X. :) The X looks awesome with the new plate too.
To ask you or Joe, the wiring/accessory kit we got already comes with the double din adapter?

Modify the template to fit the new louver. Tape the louver on the hood where you want it. Use an auto center punch to mark the centers of where you will cut holes. Then cut the holes with a hole saw. Trace around the holes to mark where to cut out hood sections for the louver vents.

Very nice. A little warning. I put my hood louver on about 5 years ago, couldn't be happier. I used the spray on textured paint and within a year it started pealing. Found out the louver is aluminum and does hold paint well. Now it has several chunks missing. I've been meaning to take it off and have it powder coated (recommended by Poison Spider), but I'm just too lazy to go through the effort.

Awesome work James! Looks great.

Looking good. I really need to do some snow wheeling, they always close all the trails in San Diego when it snows.
I know the feeling. On that trip I made my way up the mountain from the south side and got to the top on skyline. It was deserted and no one around, no vehicle tracks or footprints. Just 4-5 inches of fresh powder. So we drove around and enjoyed ourselves. When we continued north into big bear we discovered why we had the place to ourself and were stuck behind a locked gate on the big bear side. Fortunately I found a friendly jeeper who was working at the near by Girl Scout camp. He had a key and let me out.
-
We were staying up there for the weekend. I tried to hit at least a dozen trails from the top only to discover every single one had a locked gate. :(

Yea that sucks. The guy who let me out and worked up there told me, during the winter they lock all gates that lead to snow.
-
Wow! Paint choice looks awesome. Great job.
