I've been working with BajaRack to design a replacement rack that will provide a platform for my roof top tent. Finally got it installed yesterday. Looking forward to mounting the tent on it and getting some camping in.

hey thats Schweet!!!
Jeff it looks like those KMs I sold you still have tons of tread left!
-
That looks really good. I like the idea of a raised platform for the tent. No flooding, insulated from lightening stikes, quite a bit more critter proof, and so on.
A couple questions...
(1) how does it mount to the roof? In stock locations?
(2) what is the load capacity of the Xterra's roof and how did you arrive at the figure?
(3) With the mounting points you have, how well is the load distributed?

Yea Oz these tires have been great and there's still a lot of life left in them. They probably have about 40,000 miles on them.

Yes it mounts in stock location. It doesn't use all of the holes, but I just put bolts in the unused holes to plug them up.
I don't know the load capacity of the roof. The stock rack capacity is 150lbs. The BajaRack has 300 lbs capacity. I used my tent previously with the stock rack without any issues. The tent itself weighs about 150 lbs.
The distribution is good. There are four mounting points on each side.

Looks great Jeff. Is it a one off or are they going to mass produce?
-
Right now it's a one-off but anyone who's interested should let me know.

Wow, nice rack! I mean the one on top of the X... :o I didn't know anyone made a low-profile roofrack that low.

It's custom made for the roof top tent. SteeevO got some pics of the tent mounted on the rack from this weekend on John Bull. When I get them from him I'll post them up.

Here are few pictures of the tent mounted on the new rack. Pictures were taken by SteeevO on the east side of John Bull in Big Bear.
