Since Sage Bromax discussed food I thought I would start a food thread here and see who is interested?
Friday evening Hors d'oeuvres:
Sage Bromax and Wife: Charcuterie board
Celt and Wife: Wine and artichoke dip with sourdough bread
Jayrat: Cheese and crackers
Woody: Pulled pork
Vegasvuk: lil' smokies
Friday evening: Goose Gear is kindly sponsoring hot dogs and hamburgers so you won't have to cook dinner!
Saturday breakfast:
Celt: Hash browns.
JFanaselle: Bacon
Scuba Dale: Eggs
Sage Bromax: Waffle bar
Jeff Bett: Orange juice
SteveC: Fruit
Buehler:....?
Buehler:..?
It looks like if I'm counting this right we will have about 20 people to cook for on Saturday morning.
-
I'm definitely interested in Saturday morning group breakfast, and having that be our only community meal within our subgroup.
Friday night arrivals will vary drastically. Lunches are always best done independently since some people will go run trails during the day, Saturday night is the MRV huge group potluck and dutch oven competition, and Sunday morning is pack up and leave for most folks. I like the idea of hors d'oeuvres for the Friday night crowd, and we'll bring something simple if we make it up the mountain soon enough.
-
Will talk to the wife about this. We are scheduled to arrive sat morning. Will keep you guys updated.
-
For Saturday morning, put us down for a waffle bar - fresh cast-iron griddle waffles and a choice of toppings.
-
I want help but O dont know what yo bring. We have an electric waffle maker that i can hook up in the trailer if it helps. i am more than willing to help cook or pitch in cash.

Thanks Woody... We have lots of the basics covered but I think what we need for this to not fizzle out now is a head count of interested people in eating. Once we get that we can see what's lacking for food and ask for help if needed. I'm a little limited on the amount of O'Brian potatoes I can cook if it's a large group because I only have the two burner stove but should be able to get the hot food out to the masses on time. Maybe if you could do something like coffee and orange juice? I have a large coffee pot you can use to help if you can put it on your stove?

You could put me down for a gallon of OJ

Agreed, we have the usual suspects supplying the vittles and doing the work but nobody else rogering up if they are #1 going to show up or #2 plan to contribute. If we don't get enough responses should we plan a smaller group meal for everyone contributing or cancel the whole idea?

It's amazing , when I first joined SCCX, it was known for it's Fine Campground Chefs

I would say if we don't have a good enough turnout by Tuesday, we scrap the idea and just fend for ourselves, or agree to just do our own little pot luck.
-
Dale, Im thinkin you is one smart feller.

I'll bring pulled pork for Friday night

Agreed, if we cant get so much interested going to come and eat I don't want the guys spending a bunch of money for food going to waste. I'm fine with the Friday get together and the Saturday breakfast but if guys don't want to post up and show up with a plate and fork in hand is in poor form. I'm all about feeding people but there has been a lot of chances to just sign up and do that.
-
Who is yet to chime in that is attending the event with our specific group? I think I saw that Randy is out for the MRV all together, and Edwin + fam are not arriving until Saturday morning. That leaves only Steve C and Zaphos that I saw in the original MRV post but haven't chimed in yet on this thread. And if they're both doing their own thing for food, then we still have a good sized group and plenty of food volunteered between the rest of us.
Can those of you who associate directly with others that are attending (but aren't regularly on the forum) reach out to them to see if they're interested, and what they would bring? For those without the culinary skills or equipment to cook for a large group - consider things like sliced fruit, breakfast pastries, etc. You don't have to cook something to contribute.
Off the top of my head: Lemans, Dave, and the Rogue Overland crew probably haven't even seen this post. Who else am I missing?

Sorry guys just saw this.. Ill make buffalo lil smokies for Friday. We will get in on the sat am breakfast also just have to figure out what to cook.

I'm not sure you would need to cook anything as we will probably have enough but if we can get a head count from all of you guys would be great. As to the lil' smokies for Friday, bring em' on! I love those!

Joe, what I think is concerning to most is how many people we are going to feed. Jeff Bett made a comment that according to the American Adventurist site there is something like 20 vehicles associated with us showing up? We know we will have enough to feed everyone signed up to help cook. I will probably be driving a vehicle up there that's extremely limited space on a good day. What I would not like to do is bring way too much food that will get wasted when I can use that space for the wife and I. Hopefully the word will get out and we can get a yay or a nay. Thanks for posting the link to the NV guys as they are always really good about letting a brother know.

Sounds good - its just Jenni and I coming in from Vegas this year. Some scheduling conflicts prevented Nick and Alex from joining.

It will be nice to see you guys again but unfortunate the rest of your crowd won't be there. I'm hoping for the same campsite we normally get so if you want to camp with all of us come on in.

Yeah, I'm not sure where that 20 rig count is coming from. Just doing the math off the top of my head: Celt, JFanaselle, Steve C, CAWoody, vegasvuk, Jayrat, EJsarus, Sage Bromax, Fire Ninja, SCUBA_Dale, Zaphos, Jeff Bett & Dave = 13 rigs. Unless I'm missing anyone.
Almost everyone has chimed in and offered to bring something for Friday night or Saturday morning (except for the couple that aren't regularly on the forum), so I think we're good to go at this point. Let's lock it in, and we can give a hard time to the couple of folks that don't bring something later. :)
I'm very much looking forward to this trip! It's been too long since I've slept under the stars!

Knightrider #55

Ok. I'll reach out to knightrider and steve c offline and see if they're interested. I was going off of our thread on this page, not the thread on American Adventurist.
-
Ok, Steve C is in. He's bringing fresh fruit. knightrider is no longer able to attend MRV.

Don't you think you are being a little hard on SteveC by callin him a "fresh fruit" ? Gesh, these mods are getting worse than over on that "Other site"
:o

Bringing desert. Or beers if scheduled arrival changes

Oh wait you said "bringing" and not "being"... Disregard last.

Two of the rigs that are friends of mine (non-Xterras) that will be there are interested in the potlucks and possibly happy hour. Since they don't see this, I'll relay to them what to bring. Any ideas as to what is still needed for the cooking items or should I have them bring some pastries?
-
Fire Ninja and his friend are going to team up and add something to the breakfast on Saturday. I'll let you know when I know what he's bringing.
-
This is very quickly becoming the breakfast of the gods. I can't wait!

We have a lot covered so far. Maybe some pastries and muffins could be good. If they wanted to brew up a pot or two of coffee would be nice.

I will not be there till around 7:30pm on Friday ???
My evening snack will be a little late
