Title: I need a good junk yard
Post by: RBduffer on December 01, 2017, 10:05:59 AM
Can anyone recommend a good parts place?

I need the rear diff solenoid for my E-locker.  Maybe the whole carrier group, if it's cheap like me.

I know JeffBett hits the junkyards down by the border pretty frequently, but I'll be honest, you're probably going to have a hard time finding a Pro 4X or Off Road version of our rigs down there that hasn't already been harvested for the rear end. Those M226 axles tend to get pulled complete and sold off for top dollar. Your best chance would be to find one with major rear end damage where the axle is damaged, but the solenoid you seek is fine. If you're on The New X, this could be a good "wanted to buy" post over there. A lot of people pull the factory e-lockers out and swap them with air lockers, so you might get lucky and find a solenoid that way.

Thanks Joe, and I think you're right.

I hadn't thought of the 'Wanted' ad in the new X web site.  Good call ;)

You can also try car-part.com its a junkyard database search. Just enter gear/make and what part and what radius from you and it will bring up said parts. It Will search the U.S. , Canada and Mexico if you like.

Thank you guys for all the helpful suggestions.  The E locker solenoid is truly the Holy Grail of the auto industry.  Since mine is not dead, just very week, I will try boosting the voltage until it works or explodes >:D   Stay tuned!

Ok, so it didn't explode, but it got hot enough to be Ghost's next BBQ grill ;)

Well it's all back together.  I did fix the axle leaks and replaced the parking brake shoes with dry ones, so not a total loss.

Thanks a bunch.  Carry on.
