Title: Xterra Trunk Utility rack
Post by: richie on August 24, 2017, 10:40:40 PM
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a custom interior rack. I'd like to see some designs. I am currently working on a drawing I will attach the rough idea.

I plan to add tie down points after its all welded up.

I also plan on changing the leg setup, I might want to mount the legs the either direction to have more space under the rack. This is all 3/4 square tubing and i will be tig welding this together. I might change the amount of cross members and or add a steel mesh However i dont know if i will like the look of that.

I made a simple one out of 3/4" PVC and metal wire shelf.  I used conduit lamps that I attached to the floor track hold-downs.  It flex's a lot but holds all my crap.

Toro has a marvel in structural engineering in the back of his rig, there are pictures on his build page.

Toro built this for me in exchange for a unicorn horn.

It's been in my rig since 2014.  I absolutely love it.
The rack was designed to be even with the top of the rear seats.

One thing to keep in mind when you build yours is that the rear cargo area floor and utilitracks slope downwards towards the rear of the vehicle.

I wonder how many Chipotle gift certificates and Dos Equis it would cost me for a Toro built equipment rack?

As mentioned earlier, unicorn horn.  And, these days, with how busy that man is you may be looking at double or triple Shrockworks delivery times!
I was in the right place at the right time as they say.
