Title: Surprise visitor
Post by: Sage Bromax on June 03, 2017, 08:26:22 PM
This afternoon I heard my front gate open and someone said "Hello".  I figured it was a salesman and was disappointed that my wife and kids had taken the dogs to the beach.  The dogs love cornering people that enter our yard unescorted.  When I came out, the guy wanted to know if I knew who owned the XTerra parked at the curb.  We started chatting and it turns out that he was Eric Lyde (aka Slas), the current president of NORAC -Nissan Off Road Association of Colorado.  Apparently his brother lives right down the street from me.  He said he just had to come find out who had the snorkled X.  We had a great chat and he took some photos of us and my rig.  He also said he is very involved with the Gone Moab event, and that they are looking at expanding it to be held in different locations, calling it Gone Overlanding, or something like that.  It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

The NORAC guys are a good bunch. Lots of fun and super active in protecting access for off roaders. Last year when I was at GONE I had several cigars with some of them. They insisted I sample some of their local micro brews they imported in. I know, I know it was tough but I had to take the hit for the team....

Too bad they weren't down a little earlier so you could have taken them along on Cerro Gordo, that would have been super cool!

Yes it would have.  But Cerro Gordo is the type of terrane they get to wheel in all the time.  No jealousy here, or at least not much, well maybe some.

I agree that's the type of thing they wheel all the time. When we were out there on those shelf roads it kept reminding me of all the pics and stories I've read about wheeling out there.

He was the unfortunate recipient of a flop on Hells Revenge in 2015 IIRC?

Nice guy from what I hear....and I hear that goneMOAB
Is getting its act together.  Maybe time for an sccx revisit?
