Title: Big Bear Day Run Saturday 2/18
Post by: SCUBA_Dale on February 13, 2017, 04:50:40 PM
Wanted to throw out an invite to see if anyone might be interested in doing a day run to Big Bear to play in the snow.  Didn't want to do anything too crazy, was thinking about running 2N01/2N02.  Up for other suggestions.

The trail is technically a green rated trail, however with the amount of snow they got this year, I don't know what to expect.  Having recovery points to be towed out, or to tow me out would be something that I think would be extremely important.

Dale, just remember this famous quote and you will be ok, "Hold my beer and watch this" !!!!

I wish I could go. :(  It's my sons birthday and he want me to spend time with him.  How needy can you be? :o j.k.

Remember to pack some chains.  It's supposed to be a wet one this weekend and the last storm with this magnitude dumped 18" of snow overnight.

Have fun!

Is there rain this weekend as well? I think it's a warm storm but not sure what the snow level will be at.

You have recovery points...should be a tow hook on your front end, and if you have a 2" receiver hitch just head to 4 Wheel Parts and grab a plug in rear shackle and pin.  You just became recoverable front and rear.  ;)

Like dis:  2" Receiver Shackle Linky (https://www.amazon.com/Smittybilt-29312B-Receiver-Shackle-Receivers/dp/B001CF1A7O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487092818&sr=8-1&keywords=2%22+receiver+shackle)

Ugh...I might want to postpone this run then...that might get sketchy...

If it it's a rain/snow mix, it'll be no fun.  At last year's Winter Fun Fest, it rained the entire day and it made the snow pretty icy and slick.  If it's just snow, it'll be fun, probably time consuming, but fun.

My buddies did 2N02 from Pioneertown up to Big Bear a couple weeks ago, pretty thick snow as they got closer to Big Bear. One guy in a newer 4Runner got stuck.

I've read that 3N16 is a mess right now, with deep mud/water puddles and heavy melt-off causing damage to certain areas of the road. I wasn't able to find out where exactly was damaged, but the guy said they had to turn around and go all the way back. Assuming they were referring to the area near the Mining Ruin or where 3N69 lets out?

Sounds like more than I'm set up for. Maybe when things dry out. I have yet to join you guys for anything so I'm excited for something.

Based on all this, I'm putting it off.  I'll plan it out so more people can join as well.
