I can't decipher the snowflake media stuff either. I wonder what these guys would do with just a phone with no answering machine? Or the original facebook, the town newspaper.......

Or...having to actually answer a phone, and show up in person to **gasp** "talk" face to face...instead of book to book. ;)

I've been keeping an eye on the planning thread within AZXC. Not sure why the facebook page says Sedona, but they actually haven't decided upon a location yet. They're leaning toward the Kingman/Lake Havasu area, and they have started scouting some trails in the area and looking for large campsites. Just FYI.
-
To clear things up, we have been researching multiple locations. We are considering doing the opening run in Sedona, but the majority of the event will likely be the Kingman/Lake Havasu area. It is a long drive from Sedona to Kingman so we may have to scrap that idea for time considerations. The issue is that Sedona is a cluster on the weekends and the trails other then Soldiers Pass and Broken Arrow in the area are just not very exciting. The planning thread is Here (http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2614.0) and the sign up thread is Here. (http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2699.0) If you are not an AZXC member feel free to sign up or simply email info@azxterraclub.com in order to RSVP for the event. We will be sending out info via an email list once the trails get set.
Thanks,
Avi
AZXC President
Edit:If there are people that want to run Sedona, and can be there at about 11AM Friday. I would be happy to trail lead.
-
Sedona would be hard with all the pink/yellow/orange/red/blue/purple jeep tours running around.
-
It should be fine on a Friday. With the number of rigs we are expecting it would be a mess on Saturday.
-
I think we are scrapping the Sedona idea, not a lot of interest. If anyone would like to hit Sedona, we will be running it March 31st-April 2nd and all are welcome! http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2718.0
Also, here are some pictures of our recent pre run to get excited about. http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2729.msg24534#new

Those are some nice pics, I really enjoyed that little rock garden sluice. I've never gone wheeling in AZ and know there is a ton of fantastic stuff to do over there.

Hello Cali guys and gals. We are getting excited over here about CANVAZ 2017.
Check out the CANVAZ thread http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2699.0
We have scrapped the Sedona portion as Hammer was explaining. Its just logistically too far for a weekend trip.
We have scouted and ran a number of trails and have put together a rough itinerary for the weekend. We will be scouting out a few more trails in the coming months.
Please post up if you are thinking about attending. We have a list broken down by state so just let us know on here, AZXC or TNX.
Also for those that were interested we are running Sedona March 31-April 2. Click here for more info http://www.azxterraclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=2718.0
Thanks,
Kyle

CANVAZ 2017 is getting closer. Just wanted to let you all know that the end of the month we will be running our third scout trip to the Kingman area. After this trip is completed we will have a list of the trails that we will be running.
-
There are some trails in Kingman right off I-40 that look like they could be fun and make me really curious about what can be explored out there. Hopefully the timing works so I'm not out of town for work.
-
I own a few acres of dirt in Cedar Ranch, just east of Kingman. It would be nice to know the trails out there. Looking forward to getting to together again. Thanks.
-
Just bumping this back up to the top. We're looking at it being under two months out. I know there were a few of us that signed up for this and we are showing up on the AZXC forum list. We plan on leaving Thursday night and we are staying in Kingman. Jenny and the baby are coming along, but probably won't wheel with me everyday. I might have them come on a blue or green run on Saturday, but they'll probably stay in town on the red run days. So, how's everyone looking for this?
-
I got that friday off but waiting wife's school schedule, something with one of her classes changing days.. sooo not sure... Will keep in touch
-
I'm in for sure, Nilda's a definite maybe :-\
-
I am going.

Awesome, we should have decent contingent, then. It sounds like they're going to have a meet-n-greet on Friday, I just haven't got a time. It also seems like they might be incorporating some blue/green trails on the other days.
I'll be in Canada Eh!
Booohh. lol
-
I marked myself as a go, BUT will probably be leaving friday night to get there saturday morning.
-
I'm heading out Thursday to visit family in Havasu. Should hit Kingman mid afternoon on Friday.
-
All of us AZ guys and gals are getting excited. We are under two months to CANVAZ 2017. Most of us are heading to Kingman Friday morning to lock down the camping. For anyone coming early Friday we may be able to work in a trail before everyone arrives.
Be sure to go on AZXC, TNX, or Facebook to RSVP if you haven't. We are trying to send out a mass email since not everyone uses Facebook.
-
Last year was a great time and I would like to be able to make it out again. My schedule is always changing and never set in stone. I will have to see what its looking like at the beginning of October whether or not I will be able to attend with another deployment right around the corner.
-
That whole "It's not just a job, it's an adventure" thing sucks when it comes to schedules :P
Hope that you can make it.
-
The itinerary has been finalized.

Sadly, I'm now 80% out for this event. I'm holding on to a sliver of hope that I can make it, but it's highly unlikely at this point. :(
-
Damit Joe! Well we will just have to get by with 20% of you being there :D
Yeah Jeff, I should be on that list.

Two quick questions: Are we bringing fire wood to Arizona?
And is anyone else getting really exited about this trip?!?

Just a heads up about firewood...
I was in Yosemite and a ranger saw that I brought wood from San Clemente to Yosemite...
He said that smoke from trees that aren't from around the area of the burn can be damaging to the local trees....he said to always try to use local wood to keep the local flora healthy.

What's fire wood. I though all fires ran on gas. ??? Or in OC dry grass.

There is also a significant risk of bringing non-native insects/termites/beetles into new areas this way, which can devastate the tree population in areas. The funny part is, I don't see how this is different than buying wood at a local store that came from somewhere else far away. ???

right...cause uncle Jim's liquor store on Main St. has a locally sourced firewood guy lol

I am heading out pre-dawn on Friday to make it to the noon run. I will get firewood in Kingman. I am going minimalist this trip - hammock & tarp, instant or canned food. And beer.
-
I'm leaving tomorrow to visit family in Havasu, then plan on heading up before noon to also catch the Friday trip. I'm assuming those of us from Cali are going to stick to fend for yourself meal plan. Unless I hear otherwise I wont plan any potluck items.

A TRUE minimalist would bring a jug of moonshine
-
On the firewood, I would buy local. There is a huge ongoing issue with bugs and buying local helps stop that spread. Wood that is resold at grocery stores (hot wood is a common brand) is kiln dried to kill any bugs. If places sell no brand wood, it is more than likely from a local source.
Other news, I will not be able to attend. A new merger at work requires me to be at training so hope you guys have a good time. If anyone would like an SCCX banner to bring let me know.

Grab a Mountain House Chili Mac...when one goes minimalist, this is mucho gusto!

I was thinking a can of soup, but this sounds pretty good too.

We're headed up tomorrow night, to make the Friday run and try to sleep in a little Friday morning. We aren't camping, so I really have no input on food. Looking forward to seeing some of you that I haven't seen in a while.
-
Thanks for the firewood tips.
Nilda and I will see ya at the Friday Noon starting point.
We will monitor the SCCX band ;)
-
If I am not working this weekend I plan on being there. Hopefully on Friday I don't work too late and can make the drive getting there around 2-3am. If not I'll be driving over in the morning in time for the first trail run. For the camping it sounds pretty much show up and claim a spot unless you guys heard something else. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!!!

From the AZXC forum:
Ham Simplex 146.460
I'll be hand-jamming that, as I have the SCCX simplex already programmed.
-
Truck is packed and radio programmed. Departing 0430 tomorrow, going via Yuma.
