You mean like putting a heavy weight into a sock to use like a sap? I guess they would be about the right weight and shape.

No, the sock won't hold up to repeated use. Instead, make a 2' long loop of nylon tubular webbing. Make sure it is orange,
so that you can retrieve it if it sinks into the mud. Also makes it easier to find next to your driver's seat, should you need it for rapid "deployment."
