Title: Front Sway Bar Disconnect
Post by: BLUHAMR on October 03, 2016, 09:16:10 AM
Hello,

Has anybody or know anybody who has disconnected the front sway bar (links) but not actually remove it? According to my research, no quick disconnects for front has been made. My X is a daily driver, yet I will hit up trails once a month. Would this be safe, effective?

There are quite a few folks who unbolt the end links as you're suggesting. It will increase the articulation in the front end a bit. It's very easy to do and takes just a few seconds with the right wrench in hand (you may want to do it in your driveway one time, just to make sure your bolts will break free easy. If they need a shot of PB Blaster or something, it's better to discover that ahead of time). Can be done while you're airing down at the trail head. I've heard some folks say you really only need to disconnect one, but I've always seen people do both.

Thanks Joe! I'm excited to try!

If I were to disconnect the links, would be ends of sway bar hang down? If they remain in this position after disconnect, is there a possibility of them banging on other parts of my X? They're pretty darn close to the bottom of my shocks.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

If you disconnect both, the bar can rotate down and make for a fun outing. Not that it will rotate.....but it can.

On the Mojave Rd run in April, I noticed Jeep Garrett had straps to hold his sway bar while disconnected.  I thought this was great idea and it might actually work on our trucks.  You'd just have to make sure the bar stays out of the way of anything when you strap it up.

Not sure if it'll work with the X. The way it's set up, there's really nowhere good (that I can see) to strap it. I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Jeep Garrett. What does he drive?

He has a 4 door Rubicon. It's a pretty nice truck.

I was thinking that a strap attached to the frame might work, but I haven't done any serious research on it.

I'm surprised he needed straps. Rubicons come with sway bar disconnects with a touch of a button. I'll definitely look into the straps though. I wonder if purchasing extended front sway bar links will help with wheel travel.

His suspension was far from stock, I'm not sure how that affects the stock disconnects.

     You right.
Not in the context that some do....but I do have, incredible, respect for those that have earned the right to understand what this truly means.
