So it's like Xmas for me finally got all my parts in.
Front Radlfo 2.0 with 650springs
UCAs w/ cam bolts
Rear shackles
AAL kit
51s bilsteins
Diff cover
Rear Diff breather kit
20inch Totron light bar for bumper
And snorkel kit
Have all this and for some parts I have no idea how, so are easy. Just like I didn't know cam bolts are needed before allaingment or it does come out correct now my front tires are cambered and worn uneven. Oh well lesson learned.
Would like to get some help or a MOD day out there. I have a tool box but nowhere to work on it. Anyone with an open place willing to help a brother out. I'll bring the beer!
-
My friend Dave has most of the stuff in your list on order but would not be able to join a mod day until Sept. 10th. If that ends up being the date, we could do a 2fer.

This?

I'm just a noob when it comes to the xterra still learning, I didn't touch suvs when I was working as a mechanic just tuners/ricers. So I don't want to mess up my rug. Hence why I research and ask advice before I go with large purchase as you could see it laid out in my room.
I'll take any day just some knowledgeable people to help and keep company.
There's a 3day weekend coming up first week of September.
-
If you guys want to come up to the OC, I can help you at my place.
-
I'm willing to lend a hand (Free Labour) >:D
-
I appreciate it. There's a place, free labor. Sounds like a party
-
I'm also in need of a mod day and would appreciate any help. Have tools, need a spot and some expertise. Have some of the same stuff, PRG advanced coilover kit as well as a Hefty tube bumper and possibly winch. Already have plans for labor day weekend so that's out, next weekend or the one after labor day are good though if you guys would consider one of those. Putting the Hefty sliders on this afternoon!
-
are you me?? haha
I've got Radlfo 2.0 with 650springs
PRG UCA
Ubolt flip kit
AAL kit
rear bilstein shocks
also in San Diego and looking for a mod day to give me a hand. Have tools and food/beer money, just nowhere to wrench on it.
-
What's the ubolt flip it kit? Purpose for it? Maybe I need it. :o :o
Never mind I read it on the prgsite. Think I might need it but can happen a bit down the road I have enough that needs to be installed.
-
Interesting, 4 people with roughly the same tasks. My house in PQ is an option though I only have 2 car garage available and a driveway with a little slope. I guess pretty level for one more outside. The worst is that the garage door faces west so it can get warm in the afternoon if its a hot day. (an easy-up could help) I do have a heated pool for relaxing otherwise. I have a fair amount of tools but maybe not everything needed though I have a friend a block away that usually has everything I don't. I would have to confirm but the 10th would be the best option I think.
-
Yah it just flips the mount near center of the leafs.
Greg said I didnt need it but i would rather install it and get the mount out of the way.
Also, my name is Dave. I thought you were talking about me at first haha.
-
I guess so, I got the 3to6th free if possible if not the 10th. Whatever accomadation fits you best to those giving up there places.
-
i could do the 10th as well. I leave the next day for Colorado so ill be sad and dream of it while im gone but the 10th works :)
-
Cbing
Does the 10th work for you.
I wanted to get it done sooner and I still might since I wanted to go to Yosemite over the long weekend. We shall see
-
Hey beachcruiser, dang near, I went with the 650s as well and also opted for the radflos all the way around.
Hey valentin ya the 10th works for me. I'm going to be up in the Sierra's myself that weekend, doing some backpacking outside of Mammoth. Have fun if you go to Yosemite! Really want to go there soon.
That's a kind offer Jeff, I'm down to do it where ever we can all fit.
-
So 10th it is. Now location? I know we had 2 offers.
-
sounds good to me. Whoever has the flattest driveway that is willing to host would be great. Any specific tools we need? ive got c clamps for the AAL, torque wrench, breaker bar, beer, socket set, and other common tools.
I've been reading up on the pdf instructions so im hoping we can bang these 4 out relatively quickly and correctly.

You might need a ball-joint separator if your UCA is difficult to separate from your spindle.
Specific to the parts you are talking about installing: Depending on the year of your truck, you might need to cut the driver's side, aft UCA bolt to remove it (depends on which way it's installed), so a new bolt would be good. You can also force the steering shaft out of the way to pull this out. If you decide to cut, you'll need a Dremel or something similar. I chose to use Dremel to cut the bolt because of the tight space. You might also need to trim the new center pin for the leafs. Since you're installing the U-bolt flip kit, there's a pretty good chance you'll need to cut the ABS bracket on the top of the axle. This will be quick and painless with a good cutting tool.
-
All I got is a tool kit and I'll bring beer. As since I'm in a secluded place I have no where to store power tools. Atleast if we have 3 rigs with pretty much the same thing it's only gonna smooth out the process. So we shall see. And we have people with experience so sounds like fun. Now who's place tho?
-
Again you are welcome at my house, I have reasonable space, tools, jacks, jack stands, fridge, grill, etc. An easy up might help for working outside but room for a couple of trucks in the garage. 1 mile to O'Reilly's just in case.
-
That sounds good. Let see the others say?

thanks!!! sounds like a good place and you're local.
I've also got floor jack, 4 jacks stands, drill and driver.
ill also bring my angle grinder for any bolts needing to be cut. my dremel broke :(
im 2014, so i wont need to cut the driver side bolt, but ill bring the grinder with small metal cut off wheel

Oh, if anyone is installing LCA eccentric bolts, you'll need some anti-seize.

Ya I'm down to do the installs at Jeff's, sounds great to me. Are those LCA Eccentric bolts the cam bolts that come with the PRG advance kit? If so, I'm planning on installing, will pick up some of that anti-sieze.

Yep, those are the ones I'm referring to. Anti-seize will help when you take it in for an alignment.

Dam my cam bolts still not in. Ima reorder a set. So perfect think we have a mod day set up.
So at Jeff's pad, the 10th time wise?
-
I've also got a ball joint separator as seen here.

I will probably bring my Shrock front too if we finish with time to spare.
-
You dont need one of those, just need a 3-5lb sledge and tap the side of the knuckle

So I am heading out for the Nevada back country today until Tuesday. I'll post my address next Wed. I'll have at least 2-3 floor jacks and 4 jack stands as well as a somewhat decent set of tools. (I've done a suspension with what I have) My compressor is pretty small but mostly gets the job done. I have never been to any of the mod days so perhaps someone can fill me in on how things normally go. What time do you start, seems somewhat early would be good in case things take longer then thought. What is usually done with food. I have an extra fridge in the garage for food and drink as well as a grill. Fast food is near by as well. Are any other "experts" planning on coming?

It usually gets started at 9:00am Front and back PRG lift kit will take at least 6hrs,
for food everybody pitches in (Cookies, Chips, Hot Wings ,Beer, Coke , Good beer for the Host etc...)
-
Ima try and do my rear suspension this weekend on my own unless anyone wants to join me from the Oceanside/ pendleton/ fallbrook area as ima use the hobby shop on base. What's the worse that happens I don't know what I'm doing and juat put it back together hahaha :o :o
-
Thanks jeffbett, let us know what kind of good beer you like (or any alcohol) as a thank you. Ill also bring random food and some lighter beers so we dont get too tipsy and throw our AALs on the front :D
-

Of course anyone else with mods to tackle are welcome. I have only seen Jayrat volunteering to come lend a hand, is anyone one else coming that has done some of these mods or is willing to lend a hand? I have a Jeeper friend that is planning on hanging out, he'll probably do my harm then good as he is used to over complicated expensive mods on his Jeep.
Again, I have garage space and at least one part of the driveway that is pretty flat for suspension work, an easy up or two might come in handy as the sun gets higher. My driveway is 4 cars wide so there is plenty of room for other mods that don't require level ground. I'll have at least 2 or 3 floor jacks and 4 jack stands along with one set of the tools needed. Since this is the first Mod Day I have been involved with I will probably keep it simple. I have a fridge in the garage, a grill anyone can use and there is fast food 1-2 miles away. Bring any food and drink you want to eat and share, nothing formal. Sat. forecast shows partly cloudy and 81 for a high. If anyone wants to hang out and cool off, I have a pool with solar heat to wallow in as well but please bring a suit, its not Saline Hot Springs.
I plan to get started by 9 am and go until we are done, there is a OReillys part store a mile away if needed including some loaner tools. My address is 13847 Sparren Ave. 92129 so let Google tell you how to get there. Should be plenty of street parking if we are not wrenching on your truck. If we get enough help I think we can bang out these mods fairly quickly so even more of us can get out in the back country and have some fun!
-
I'd love to come and help out, but I'm going to be in Gorman. Though, if you all do get stuck on anything, I should be reachable by PM if needed.
-
All right, I've got a kitchen pass and can come help! Though I'm not that familiar with most of these mods I've done enough (changed shocks and springs all around) to be of help, I think.
It reminds me that I've got cam bolts I've been wanting to install, but the last time I checked the old bolts had still not freed up (following multiple PB soaks). I'd also like to replace an axle shaft (front diff to wheel), so maybe I'll learn enough this weekend to be able to do that.
I assume we're talking about Saturday. See you there!
-
My 2" spacers and shackles just arrived today!
I'll update if I can make this install meet tomorrow or Friday night. I'd have to find a sitter for our daughter.
I've installed the spacers before on my Frontiers, but never done it on an Xterra before. I've also never done shackles, but have watched videos and bookmarked a few thread on it. Doesn't seem too tricky. I took special note of how to use a ratchet strap to pull the OEM shackles off.
-
Sounds good I'll be up and about before that so I put everything in my car and hopefully find a donut shop to start off the day.
-
I will swing by and bring a chair :)
Looks like alot of stuff going on so I can bring 4 jackstands and a jack and a set of tools/ air tools.

Spacer install on an xterra is the exact same, shackles are very simple too.

There's your "expert."
And he's young, which is great for heavy lifting/winch installs/as well as last minute riding short swaps. ;)
I'm working (again) but may swing by on the way home to see 4 Xterra's in their natural habitat...in varying stages of repair up on jackstands in a driveway. :D
-
I have plans for the morning, but will be able to stop by around noon-ish to lend a gloved hand....although, by then most of the work may be done and I can witness the cleanup :)
-
*update*
we installed my spacers and shackles last night. can someone PM me the address, i MIGHT be able to head down depending on a few things (I live in Long Beach). if I go, i can bring a floor jack and two jack stands.
-
The address is listed in reply #33.
-
occupantX, are you sure you can handle the long drive to my house? Jordan is close at 5 miles, you could just walk over.
-
Sounds like a plan! I'll be there around 9 with some beer and food. I didn't get the winch yet so that's not part of the plan for my rig. I'm not sure if it makes sense to put on the Hefty tube bumper w/o the winch, the instructions say to put it on before you install the bumper. I may email Hefty support to see what their thoughts are on installing the bumper then adding the winch later. If anyone else knows about that would be interested to hear any input.

I believe you'll have to pull the bumper back off, I did , but mines not tube

Cool, I'll probably just save the bumper install for another time, I'll probably be done for after doing the front and rear suspension and helping out others anyways.
-
most of the winch bumpers require removal of the bumper to install the winch. the only one that doesn't require removal is the calmini since it is a bottom mount winch bumper.

So great time putting everything together. But my bad luck continues after everyone left and we were getting ready to go eat we noticed trying to back out the garage my X wasn't moving. The drift shaft came lose. Thank god Jordan was there and fixed it in 10minutes. Many thanks Jordan. But the bad luck continues as I got home tried removing the dome light in the middle row and the led was falling apart inside as soon as I removed it all my interior lights went out. I'm hoping I just blew a fuse. Dam my luck

I need a couple more mod days at my house to continue building up my tool collection. I gained a pair of leather gloves (Jayrat?) a 19MM wrench with a pivot ratchet box end (beach cruiser?) and a orange black & decker angle grinder. I'll bring them to the meet up Thursday. I had a fun day. It's a good time hanging out with nice guys with the same interest. It's great that everyone I have met in the group is cool, no jerks at all. (Crap, I just thought, maybe I am the jerk in the group!) I may be game to do a day like that every month or two. There are always more to be done (Gabriel!) Even though my X was in touched, I learned a lot like its time for big boy Jack stands! I wondered if everyone managed to get their own tires back. Seems like they were all over the place.

NO, DOUBT! Great time, but man did I sleep well last night after that "workout":).
The main learning point for me was I discovered a very important tool I was missing from my tool bag - a min-sledge hammer! Whether working on the upper ball joint, a stubborn nut or the leaf springs, when wasn't the "BFH" a critical tool! So, now it's in my toolbar :)
Thanks everyone for the great day!
