GROUP BUY IS CLOSED, THANKS TO ALL WHOM PARTICIPATED, AND HUGE THANKS TO WHITE KNUCKLE FOR BEING A TOP NOTCH, CLASS ACT IN EVERY ASPECT OF THE GROUP BUY!!!
**UPDATE, May 4th, 2016**
Thank you to all that have participated in this Group Buy and have placed their orders! (beedee, JeffBett, valentin36, rpark, ghenderson21)
I am going to place an order in the next week or two and wanted to see if anyone else might be as well. Since he is in Apple Valley I was thinking of doing a local pickup to save money on shipping.
Let me know if you want to place an order and we can try to coordinate something.
Link to their site, you can price out your sliders, there are multiple options, along with add-ons.

Here is their email address, when placing your order please reference the "Southern California Club Xterra Group Buy" and provide your screen name to them as well.

**April 20th UPDATE**
Alright gentlemen, I heard back from White Knuckle and here is what they said:
No problem. Happy to help!
We can offer either X% off the price of the sliders on credit card orders or XX% off the price of the sliders if they are paid for in cash at the time of pick up.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Natalie
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Important things to note.
• Wait time is estimated by White Knuckle to be 4-5 weeks for Bare sliders, 4-6 weeks for Powder Coated sliders from the day the order is received
• All sliders are made to order, they do not have an inventory of them.
• No deposit is required for cash orders, cash payments are made at the time of pick up.

I know of a couple of us in SD that were planning the same thing, wonder if there would be any discount for buying 3-5 at once?

Definitely worth it.
Great product, great guy.

Excellent! I'm in no hurry, but I am thinking about the co$tly consequences of doing some wheeling and hitting a rocker or door panel without a slider.
Jeff, I am not too sure if there would be a discount or not. We (me or you) could contact them and see if they would do it though, wouldn't hurt to ask. :)
-
Looks like we're going to have a WK install party. O0 These would be quick to install with the help of a few people.
-
Alright guys, I shot them another email inquiring about a "group-buy" discount. I told them right now we have 6 potential buyers.
-
Sweet, thanks Beedee, I would be ready to buy anytime now. Lets line them up and install, install, install.
-

You are welcome. I'm pretty much ready to pull the trigger as well. I'll keep ya posted as soon as I hear back from them.
-
Group buy you say??!! Very tempting!!?? Okay I'm in??!!
-
**Please see first post for updates!**
-
Okay
I'm in!?
Just might wana put actual numbers for the cash price and credit price to try and get more people. So usual price..then discounted. Just so we can get more people
Quick question would these be bare metal or powder coat or discount is from whichever we choose

Good point. However there are a variety of options to choose from, so I am not sure what everyones exact price would be. The best thing to do would be to go to the site, input your own options for what you want to order, and then apply the discount yourself. I will update the first post with what my pricing would be based off a local pickup.
Here is their site:

Since your already in contact you should ask if they charging tax first then the discount or discount then taxes. Or even better no tax and discount with flat rates. If you can find out I can go ahead and work up for the numbers since I work in finance would take me seconds to calcute. You should ask if they give military love.if they do pile up the cash and do the group buy with me to get a lil extra discount muhahahahaha
-
Sweet, thanks for the leg work Beedee, you just saved me $40-$50 and helped me decide to pull the trigger. Perhaps all us in SD can organize a 1 run pickup to get them. I have a pickup if needed.
-
Im in!
-
I wonder if they stock any or only build to order. How long do we gather names vs. pull the trigger and make the purchase?
-
👆👆 here brings wise words to the circle haha
So will we get them when we pay or pick up later or a list of what is being purchased be sent up ahead of time.

I'm still trying to figure that part out. I've never done a "group buy" and am not quite sure the best way of going about submitting payments and/or collecting them. If anyone has experience with this, please chime in.

Good question, not sure if they stock or are infact build to order. With a 4-6 week lead time, I'm under the impression they are build to order. On top of that, I wonder if a deposit is needed for "cash at the time of pickup"? Seems like a potential risk to build them without deposit if someone has to back out that was going to pay with cash.
Regarding a time frame to gather people and their orders, what sounds good to you guys? Maybe the end of April?
Im in!
Excellent, I will add you to the list!
Please take a look at the first post of the thread, as I have updated it with a format that I think works regarding how to list your order.

Bare metal hrew tube$ 430 goes to $387

Bare metal dom tube $470 goes to $423

Excellent point. I will compile all of the questions here in the next day or so and then shoot them over another email. Thank you for your input and I'm glad you are solid with numbers, because I suck at the math!
-
Don't forget to ask about that military see if we can get more out of it and we put it all together..and do the group by under me so we all get the addition discount . If that's the case and they allow it cash would maximize the discount

For sure man, thanks!
I added your pricing breakdown to the original post on page one, thanks again.
-
Be careful about asking too much. You already have the 5 and 10 % discounts from them, if you bug them for more, they might decide to not support the sale. 10% off of $500-ish is a pretty good deal, plus you'll probably be saving buy not shipping any of the sliders.
-
So I asked a friend that in the metal industry and he thought the DOM would be well worth the ~$36 more the the HREW metal saying its quite a bit stronger. He provided another link about the diff.
http://metalsupermarkets.com/blog/difference-between-erw-dom-and-seamless-tube/
-
Dang guys, good deal. If I didn't already have a set I be on board. Hmm, maybe time for a 2nd Xterra. FYI I bought the DOM's unpainted. Rustoleum Professional primer and black is holding up great.
-
Are posted prices out the door? Or tax included excluded?
-
Fourxfunk, did you use standard rattle can paint or some form of truck bed liner type. I am pretty sure I'll go bare metal as well with the thought that most any serious rock strike will scratch to bare metal and I might as will plan on touching up now and then with the same paint I started with. Kind of the same theory as my bumpers/plastics and rims painted.
-
My question is does I make a difference ordering the standard or with a body lift?
-

I am going to confirm with White Knuckle in my next email if that includes tax. When you add stuff to the cart, it automatically includes the shipping, but doesn't include the tax, not sure if that is because it is based on what county you live in or what.
I'm compiling a list of questions to send over in the next day or two.
-
My question is does I make a difference ordering the standard or with a body lift?
Pretty sure the "body lift" version has a different angle of bracket to accommodate a lift. (could be wrong though)

Yep, rattle can. I did 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of black back in September. The only time I've touched it up is the two times they've been banged in the parking lot. Pssssssssss - all better!
I used this stuff: (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160420/feb627c1cfe8fe47dd5c7bf3300adca6.jpg)

Parking lot!! You need to change your story on that to something like it happened while leading a group on the Rubicon Trail.

It was at the Rubicon Mills Mall, how'd you know? ;^)

Sage advice fellas.
Having witnessed the implosion of a few GB's on other forums, this is a good deal offered by a respected vendor.

Agreed, it was generous enough of them to knock up to 10% off for us! For the record, I will not be asking for any additional discounts.
-
I do need a bit more info like deposit, taxes, timeline, and when payment is due, but.... you can count me as a tentative IN for one of the least expensive sets as a cash customer.
I will confirm 100% as soon as the rest of the information is available.
Thank you very much for putting in the leg work and making this happen. If I can help out at all let me know.

Just to confirm if you taking details. DOM bare metal with body lift. I think? That's the spacer and shackle kit right?

I believe the body lift is the pucks that tuck between the body and frame. Spacer and Shackle is using the suspension to raise the body.

Sounds good, I have updated the first post with your order.

Ok guys, here are a list of questions I have drafted. Please read them and let me know if you have any other questions you would like me to ask. I am not going to ask for any further discounts.
1. Does the price shown on the site include tax?
2. For the cash orders, is there a deposit required? If so, what form of payment, and when?
3. Turnaround time, safe to assume the standard 4-6 weeks as listed on your site?
4. It looks like most of us have opted for no Powder Coat, does that reduce the time for them to be ready for pick up?
-
Question: Do we have to pool all the purchase money and pay at once or can we pay individually. I guess in other words how is payment taken care of, is it a true group buy or a discount if bought in conjunction with our status with this group/club.
-

Great questions and I'm not sure.
I am leaning towards paying individually. However, I'm not sure how the deposit thing would work with them since most if not all of us seem to be paying cash. And for the cash payment, they said that is payable upon pick up. Which if that is the case (paying cash on pickup), it seems that we would have to pool the purchase money together to bring upon pickup.
As I mentioned earlier, I have never lead the charge on a Group Buy, so I am open to input and feedback on the best way to go about it.
The biggest snafu seems to be the alluring cash price discount, and having to pay cash at the time of pick up.
Thoughts?
-
Perhaps we could do a scheduled pick time/date and have a person/group come from LA areas and one from SD then disperse the goods locally. I wondered about mentioning this on the other main forum, but its probably best to keep it simple.
This ends up being a great deal if you look at the discount plus not paying shipping, I feel fortunate.

I thought about posting something in that other forum as well, but like you said, I think simpler/smaller the better. Less people to back out last minute. I sent over the email to Natalie with the questions that i posted earlier today. She is usually pretty quick to get back to me. I told her that we will most likely close the group buy at the end of April, so that gives people 9 more days to see the thread and decide if they want in.
As soon as I hear back from her, I will post her reply here and on page one, in the first post.
Thank you for being quick to reply here as well!

I suppose I should have mapped the location before starting the thread, they are about 100 miles away from me, nearly a two hour drive each way. ???

Eliminate question #1, because that ventures into asking for additional discounts. We all have to pay The Governor...

Just my .02, but think like a business owner and you'll gain cred in the GB world.
Arranging a group deposit is easier, that way it shows your serious about the "group" part.
Individual payments leaves room for last minute "pull outs" and unless this is your first girlfriend, avoid this potentially hazardous practice.
Individual pick up is advisable, because once paid for in the "group" delivery/pick up should fall on the individuals responsibility...that way no one is trying to drive everywhere to pick up product. Plus, you get to meet the vendor/representative and thank them personally for the great deal you just scored...again building a relationship/street/forum cred.

I have heard back regarding the questions, I will paste her answers in bold, and red.
Ok guys, here are a list of questions I have drafted. Please read them and let me know if you have any other questions you would like me to ask. I am not going to ask for any further discounts.
1. Does the price shown on the site include tax?
No, the price does not include tax.
2. For the cash orders, is there a deposit required? If so, what form of payment, and when?
We do not require a deposit for the cash orders.
3. Turnaround time, safe to assume the standard 4-6 weeks as listed on your site?
Our sliders are on a made to order basis and our current lead time to complete a set is around 4-6 weeks from the time the order is received.
4. It looks like most of us have opted for no Powder Coat, does that reduce the time for them to be ready for pick up?
The lead time for bare metal sliders is around 4-5 weeks from the time the order is received to complete a set.
I will update the first post on page one with this information as well.

I regretfully have to pull out. I was already stretched and the after tax cost is going to be up and over what I can afford spend. Sorry and Thank you.
Super Bummed to have to pass on this great deal! If anything changes before the last day I will try and make it happen.

I was thinking we can close the Group Buy at the end of April.
At that point, it is up to each person whom is participating to call them up and order their sliders. Tell them you are in the SCCXterra Group Buy, and then tell them your name, your forum name and contact info so they can apply the discount. I will also be emailing over a list of those people that are in. So hopefully no one flakes and we can get the discounted pricing.

I'm sure that won't be an issue. They are very accommodating and have been prompt to reply to my emails.
When you call, ask for Natalie (she may handle all the phones anyways) and tell her that Bret (me) is heading up the group buy and you want to put in your order from SCCX. :)
Let us know when you call, so that way I can update the first post of the original thread.

Also, please post back here once you have ordered so I can update the first post in the thread with your order status.

Thought I would put their contact info here as well.

So I have been looking into the best way to paint the bare metal sliders and people are telling me that it will be quite the chore to do. This is due to the mill scaling that will be on the sliders when they are done. I emailed WK and asked their process and they said they get sand blasted before the powder coat is applied. I'm debating adding on the Powder Coat to my order since I don't have access to a grinder/sander wheel to remove the mill scale.
I have read that people use acetone or brake cleaner to wipe down the sliders before applying self etching primer and then paint. But based off of the feedback on "the other forum", it doesn't sound like the process I just described would work out that well.
-
For what it's worth, it depends on what you are painting it with. If you go the bedliner route, mill scale doesn't really matter that much as bedliner has texture to it.
Painting is all about the prep work, the best painters i've seen, prep the longest. It's a lot of work, but the benefit and product is much better.
-
Like he said. It's about the prep. I just plan to do a quick wet sand down with acetone then prime them 3times then cover in plasti dip since its only going to scratch the bottom. That's what ima do.
-

I guess what my issue is, I have no idea of what mill scale looks like. I have been trying to find pictures of it. I was planning on using a Rustoleum Hammer finish paint, which has a mild texture to it. Will that be enough to blend in with the mill scale? I have no idea.
-
I decided to add on Powder Coating to my order. The more I thought about me trying to find the time to prep and paint these things, the less likely it seemed plausible for me. I'm getting excited for these to be ready!
-
Hoping to get that email in this upcoming week or two that our sliders are ready for pick up!
-
Trust me I been waiting hoping to get it since I ordered first, its hard to not try and spend the money on other parts.. :o :o
-
Ugh...I really wish I would have gotten in on this deal...
-
Just spoke to WK today and found out that their bare metal sliders will be delivered with the mill scale removed and a fine layer of oil that can be removed with Dawn detergent or acetone!
-
so expect an email this weekend or next for pick up? >:D >:D :o :o sweet!!
-

Well crap, maybe i will cancel the powder coating on mine then!!!
Just called and spoke to Natalie, she was so cool. I took the PC off of my order, will prep and paint myself.
-
I was thinking of going to Idyllwild next week end so I would be have way there, I wonder if they can do Sat. pickups? I'll have to call.
-
I'm gonna blow a gasket if someone gets a pick up confirmation email before I do. I was the first order. haha. Already have the acetone and paint ready to go.
-
I just talked to Natalie and she thought they would be done by the end of the week. Got my fingers crossed. Do the San Diego guys want me to pick theirs up while I am there?
-
Depending when your going, I'd like to join you on a mini xterra convoy. And depends the hours of operation on Friday or Saturday/Sunday
-
That would be amazing if they are all ready on the same week, hopefully this weekend!
I am planning on buying my dawn detergent and paint this week!
-
Anyone know their hours for store/pick up? see if I have to do last minute day of vacation.

If they are available this weekend, hopefully I could go this weekend. It might be tough for me to do Saturday unless I can get my folks to watch our baby. I don't really want to bring along a 10month old for that drive without my wife there to assist. If they do Sunday will-call, then I might aim for that. I just have to figure out the baby situation. It would kind of suck to do a straight out and back, but if thats what I have to do, so be it. I can probably drop her off at my folks house in the early morning and head out to WKO. I'd like to get an early start to beat any traffic that might form on the way out here at the 15/215 junction.

"Good to go", as in, yours are ready?
I haven't heard anything yet regarding mine.

I know, I suppose they still can email us tomorrow! (unless someone wants to call see whats up?).

Got my notice that the sliders are done and can be picked up starting Sat. I'll be heading mid morning.

I'm happy for you -_- but I ordered before everyone and no email for me. Sigh

Nice! I'm going to call tomorrow and see if they foresee mine being done and ready for pickup on Saturday as well.

So Natalie at White Knuckle got back to me this morning saying that ALL the sliders from the group buy are available to be picked up. I plan to go tomorrow and can pick up the 3 for SD. They are closed from 11-12:30 and its about a 2:30 drive so I was planning on leaving around 10.

Yup! She emailed me too. I plan on leaving Long Beach a little after 10am, closer to 10:30. Maps shows about an hour and 45 minute drive time. Ill keep an eye out for you Jeff, I'll be in a white Pro-4x.

Anyone know if they are open Sunday? If not how do I coordinate with you JeffBett for that? Since i probably will be working Saturday

I headed out to WKO this morning with my wife and baby and arrived at about 12:15pm. Out front there was a pallet full of sliders...which ended up being our SCCX Group Buy!(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/bretdee/FCE85AA8-D058-48FA-B3F9-4A5261111FD7.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/bretdee/media/FCE85AA8-D058-48FA-B3F9-4A5261111FD7.jpg.html)
John was so cool, seriously. He brought my sliders over to my X, and we chatted for about 15 minutes. He let my wife use their bathroom to change the baby. His shop partner John was also really cool. I'm very happy with my choice to go with WKO. I placed my order on May 3 or 4 and they were ready 5 weeks on the dot, how rad is that!?! (They told us 4-5 weeks)
Here are a couple shots of mine after the Dawn detergent bath and acetone wipe down.

And after the first or second pass with paint. I'm letting them dry over night and will resume tomorrow with a few more light coats.

I'm hoping to install Monday night, but I'm not sure if that will be enough time to let the paint fully cure.

Is that the only paint your using the double coated one

Yes.

Beedee, I picked up the 3 sets for the SD guys 1/2 hour after you, sorry I missed you. I couldn't believe the size of those sliders for the max cab long bed Ram. Hate to pay shipping cost on them.
-
I have mine thanks to JeffBett.
Now to figure out where to paint them and get them installed.
-
Sounds like a request for a mod day. If you live in an apartment or condo, Painting is an issue.
-
Nice job on the GB gents...well done. :)

No worries man, sounds like we just missed each other!
Here is one more picture of mine. I have to hit the inside of the rails with more paint this afternoon, as you can see in this last picture, I didn't allow myself easy access to that area of the sliders in this configuration.

I do live in an apartment, luckily our garage is plenty big enough to be able to do this and other type of work in it! The plan is to install them tonight at my buddies place.

Thanks man. I know they can get crazy and create a lot of madness, luckily this one went off without a hitch!
-
Living on base is my issue, not enough freedom to work on a car here. Last time i did my oil chance i curbed the X and crawled under and stayed there till i was done so i wouldn't get caught working on my car. guess its an issue here. and no power tools to drill the needed holes really wanted to put up the sliders before Thursday. guess not.

Is the front bracket of the passenger side slider (closest one in the photo) sitting up on hockey pucks? Love it!!! 8)

Let the countdown to the first rock contact begin. Beedee, did you use gloss spray paint or some form of bed liner?

After a lot research, and about 30 minutes in the paint aisle at Home Depot, I decided to use this. I figured it should suffice if I apply it in light coats, which I did. I basically used 1.5 cans per slider. Prior to paint, I scuffed with a scotch brite pad during the Dawn detergent wash (2x), then wiped with acetone (2x). It is suppose to be a Primer & Paint, time will tell. I read tons of threads on various forums on the subject, what worked for some, didn't work for others. Some used the "hammered" finish Rusto with success, but others hated it. Many said they used the Duplicolor Bed Liner with success, but others hated it. See where I'm going? Then there was the internal struggle of Matte v.s. Satin, but after a few minutes I figured the Matte and/or Satin would look more chalky, and retain dust. The Semi-Gloss seemed like a nice compromise, and will be easier to wipe the dirt/dust off. And if or I should say when it comes time to touch them up, I won't have to lay down a layer of primer, and then a layer of paint. I can simply scuff the area, wipe it clean, then hit it with the paint.

Good eye my friend! I also use them on my jack.

Beedee, how many cans of paint did you need?
I used one and a half on each rail. i basically set up one can in front of each rail, and used that can specifically so i could keep track of the coats and can usage. Once those cans were done, I used a third one to lay down a few more coats. I have one can left for touch-ups as needed after the trails.
The "hard" part was making sure you hit every area of the rails. In the configuration shown in my last picture, it was difficult to get the undersides that are facing the garage floor. So once they dried over night, I had to rearrange them and paint those areas that were missed from the previous day.
Cliff notes, I bought 4 cans.
-
my question is did you drill the needed holes first or your doing it after the painting process?
-

I haven't drilled the holes yet.
-
Yeah I think when I get a chance ima drill first. Once that's ready I should be able to paint and eventually just use jack stands to put them on.
-
I put mine on last year. Since then I have done a number of trails in Big Bear, an eic Saline Valley trip, the Bradshaw Trail, the Mojave Road, and a number of trails in Anza Borrego. I have not yet drilled the ausillary holes. The sliders have taken a number of hits, and they are still solid.
-
So your telling me.. Put them up without the xtra holes and they be good. Just occasional retighten them
-
I haven't even re-tightened them. The extra bolts make them bullet proof. >:D
I will get around to it one of these days, but it is not at the top of my list.
Oh, I mounted my Schrockworks gas tank skid over the top of my WKO slider and just clamped the sucker down.
-
You can always weld them up and never have to worry about it again.
-
very well.. might just weld them down if I get the chance too
-
You can always weld them up and never have to worry about it again.
I have thought about that too. Any idea of what that would cost?
-
Hahaha this be our attempt to save a penny
-
I shotgunned a quote out via Yelp to local muffler/weld shops. Most are coming back around $150 with a 2-3 hour job scope.
-

This.
I had my Shrockworks sliders welded onto my X by Jason at ORW in San Marcos. Cost $160, but they were s-o-l-i-d. A good consideration esp since we all use our sliders as Hi Lift points of contact when...jacking. :D
-
i have also not drilled the extra holes and have had no issues landing on my sliders, i've checked the mounting bolts a few times in the 3-4 years and they have not loosened up at all.
-

I couldn't quote you a cost but I know someone who can do it and make sure it's done right.

Did you use anything on them, like loctite or similar to it or just your hands and prayer that they don't fall off?? :o :o

If you do not plan to weld them, lock washers and some lock-tite is a very good idea.

I used lock washers, nylocks or locktite on all the bolts.

How many bolts does that end up being in each arm of the sliders?

Installed them tonight with the help of my buddy.

I am shooting for my install tonight as I plan on off roading 4th of July weekend.

Thinking about purchasing these too. Couple of questions: did you guys order HREW or DOM? I have about a 2 inch suspension lift. Should I go with the 2 inch body lift option for the sliders? Thanks!

All of us went with DOM, as it is 75% stronger (fact given to me from John at White Knuckle). If you have a suspension lift, you would go with the regular sliders, if you had a body lift, you would go with the body lift option.

I haven't put mine but I ordered without a lift even tho I have one. after talking to the staff they said wouldn't make much of a difference besides extend a bit more to be closer to the body. My thought was gives it more space to avoid hitting the body, I just went with no lift. and DOM tubing

BLUHAMR: just a little clarification when ordering sliders, when they ask you if you have a lift, they only care if you have a body lift, not suspension lift. if you order a set of sliders for a 2" body lift, and you only have a suspension lift, the will not fit... You stated you only have a 2" suspension lift so DON'T order sliders for a 2" Body lift.
Valentin36, from looking at your build and randomly seeing your xterra, you do not have a body lift, unless it is not listed on your page and I missed your jacked up xterra. A body lift consists of putting 2" blocks under all 10 or so body mounts and lifts ONLY the body 2" above the frame and suspension. A suspension lift, whether it be spacers, replacement springs/coilovers and/or shackles will lift the entire truck but leaves the distance between the body and frame the same as stock.
Since the sliders attach to the frame, but are there to protect the body, the welder needs to know if you have changed the distance from the frame to the body, hence the question if you have a body lift or not. It is true, if you do in fact have a body lift, you can install non body lift sliders, you will just have 2" of extra space between the sliders and the body, but the reverse is not true, sliders built for a body lift will not fit a vehicle without a body lift.
I'm glad you decided to not order your sliders for a body lift because I wouldn't want you to be disappointed when they didn't fit.
