Title: Mojave Road - Question
Post by: Ghost65 on December 02, 2015, 09:03:09 AM
So...working on a "little" side project...and need some help from the regs here at SCCX.

When you think of an iconic part of TMR...what do you think of?

School buses?

Joshua Trees?

Mailboxes?

Frogs?

Post up...lemme know.

And thanks...GhostX  >:D

Well...are we talking about the environment, or the trip itself?  Do the people count?  The campfires?

Or are you referring to parts of the preserve we check out?

Assuming iconic parts of the trail itself...

* Fort Piute and the cottonwoods in the canyon there (especially in fall when the colors change)
* Penny Tree
* Frogs Pond
* Crossing Soda Lake
* Banana splits at the soda fountain at Kelso Depot
* Mail box
* Travelers Monument on Soda Lake
* The Mojave River crossings at the train tracks/Rasor area
* Afton Canyon badlands
* The lava tubes out in the cinder cone area

Something that could be easily illustrated in a logo...gnomes?  >:D

Thanks Cass & Christiaan for the early responses. 8)

Ohhh...ok

Lava tubes are pretty damn cool, and specific to that trip ie. I wouldn't know where else to find them...

The penny can and school bus are iconic as well...

The Frogs

The pile of Rocks on Soda Lake

School Bus

and from what I hear Lava Tubes

Finding it hard to render lava tubes for a logo...leaning towards frogs, gnome, or school bus.  Joshua tree is up there too...

I'm all about the frogs
Title: Re: Mojave Road - Question
Post by: xxSVxx on December 02, 2015, 10:37:18 AM
FROGS > GNOMES > JOSHUA TREE

maybe a joshua tree with a frog on one limb and a gnome on the other?

Easiest gnome/logo, very symbolic and at the heart of the trip:  Fire Jinga

Well...Googling around, frogs are everywhere...the gnome means "Travel Site" to most...mailbox doesn't render well in illustrated logo format.

However, playing with the school bus and Joshua Tree, as they are an iconic stop we have made every year...

You know....I bet you could even shop in a frog and a gnome into a shot like that....like, little easter eggs that aren't totally obvious, but if you look closer, you'll see them!??!

For me, it's the river crossings and the train bridge...

Should be pretty easy to incorporate a silhouette of a bridge like this into a logo. :D

Maybe a bridge in the background, with a Joshua tree, frog and school bus in the foreground?

So what everyone is saying is, a photo is cool for the back shirt area?

My thought is SCCX OG logo on front, and then a TMR photo/logo on the back.  Two colors of shirts (one for winter TMR, one for spring TMR), available in long sleeve and short sleeve versions.

The cost of the shirts will be the same as the previously printed SCCX shirts.

$10 for regular SS Hanes Beefy T's.

$12 for 2XL and above sizes of SS Hanes Beefy T's.

Still working out prices for the long sleeve versions, but probably add a $1 or two to the above prices.

Wow, that's really cool! I didn't realize you were looking to design a shirt for the WMJR so thank you very much, it's appreciated!!! If I were to vote on something for the back, I would say the mailbox with the American flag. Every time I see that picture or a video etc of it I really think it stands out and anyone who has ever been on that road would immediately recognize it.  Anything I can do to help/assist in your project please let me know.

Another thought is to create an iconic TMR/SCCX logo that could literally be updated each year...with...the...date.

Winter version would have a snowflake in the back of the logo, spring version would have a sun background.

Just kicking things around guys....thanks for all the input.

YES!!! LOVE these ideas! Both the year update and the sun/snowflake.

Are you thinking the TMR/SCCX Logo (winter/spring) on the front, instead of the regular SCCX logo? And the Flag/Mailbox on the back?

Let me know if I can help in any way.   ;D

Thinking SCCX logo on front...TMR logo (not with SCCX logo, but an TMR/SCCX unique logo) on the back.  So, two separate logos, front to back.

Been very busy with work, tis the season at Home Depot, hoping to focus on this more and get some logo submissions soon.  Plus all the other family stuff and prep for holiday travel to NorCal.  ::) ::) ::)

As soon as I get the graphic back and forward to the t-shirt vendor, lock down pricing, and select colors for the winter/spring shirts.

Was thinking Navy blue for winter shirts, and Heather Gray for the spring shirts?  :)

I really don't have a preference on color. It's one of those situations where it'll be hard to please everyone, so the more neutral/generic you go might be better. You could do a darker gray for winder and a heather gray for summer maybe?

Dark Gray then...and Heather Gray for spring breakers.  8)

The perpetual logo will render better on darker shirts with its bright colors.  I think the graphic artist I've been working with is slammed with lots of holiday work.  Sent a revision yesterday to the logo (bullet holes, pretty cool) and am still waiting.

Hope to have yesterday's promised proof today, and then start a separate t-shirt thread for runs/colors/sleeves/sizes.

And then, let the....
