Is anyone planning anything?
I have 0 plans.
Should we go do something? Camp? Trail run? MOD day?
-
I'd love to have a fun weekend of wheeling or camping, but I'm pretty stacked with family obligations on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. :(
If something ends up going down for Sunday, I'm a definite maybe. :)
-
Thursday with the "Inlaws" :o After that???
-
Yeah, probably Friday would be a good idea.
-
I'm down for a pre-mojave run! That will force me under my truck to finish a few things! Lol!
-
I will either go to truckhaven area this weekend or run Cleghorn Saturday.
-
Like Steve, we have no plans for this weekend.
Hoping our PRG items (Flip U-bolt kit, Shackles, OME leaf pack) show up this week. Would love to get them on Pepe this weekend.
Impromptu MOD Day?!? ;) We could have a potluck with TG leftovers. :o
And Cleghorn Saturday looks interesting... 8)
-
Also down for wheeling/camping if someone has an idea..... ;D ;D
Steve?!?
-
The monkey's are chipping away at stone in my mind as we speak.
I'll let you know if they come up with something.

Barb, I'm around this weekend if you want to try to get your new toys on.
I'm up for Cleghorn on Saturday.
-
Yeah, I've got nothing.
Is there an easy trail run / camping thing we could do?
Like Bradshaw? I'm not a very good organizer.
-
I'm in for a trail run and camping.
One idea is something out in Big Bear: http://www.socalxterra.com/smf/sccx-xcursion-pictures/quick-run-on-1n04-and-1n64/ (http://www.socalxterra.com/smf/sccx-xcursion-pictures/quick-run-on-1n04-and-1n64/) That I know has two yellow post sites along the trail and then the Slide Lake Campground as well.
An extension of that is this path I've been slowly exploring is this; I've done 95% of the route in separate trips, but not yet all together: North Fork through Bear Creek/Slide Lake to Radford (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/34.1078828,-117.1261018/34.2269221,-116.8659793/@34.1583051,-117.006177,12.33z/data=!4m19!4m18!1m15!3m4!1m2!1d-117.0640887!2d34.1681708!3s0x80c4acbe4b9f7273:0xf04d1626566bf0b7!3m4!1m2!1d-116.9938162!2d34.1799149!3s0x80c4ad593edc5b59:0x5b6b41f1f7aa0ea0!3m4!1m2!1d-116.9335017!2d34.18998!3s0x80c4b32844371c0f:0xbf00cc762cf6c224!1m0!3e0)
I took a quick trip a few weeks ago to check to see if the bottom entrance at North Fork Canal was OK, and the access was fine, then all fireroads up into Big Bear. There was one water crossing that was deep enough for me to stop and give it some thought, but was easy enough even for my X. (Probably nothing for 4WD, but I've learned not to take any chances if I'm off by myself :D)
I went all the way up to the Bear Creek campground (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bear+Creek+Campground/@34.1722208,-117.0154735,14.53z/data=!4m28!1m25!4m24!1m18!2m2!1d-117.1261018!2d34.1078828!3m4!1m2!1d-117.0640887!2d34.1681708!3s0x80c4acbe4b9f7273:0xf04d1626566bf0b7!3m4!1m2!1d-116.9938162!2d34.1799149!3s0x80c4ad593edc5b59:0x5b6b41f1f7aa0ea0!3m4!1m2!1d-116.9335017!2d34.18998!3s0x80c4b32844371c0f:0xbf00cc762cf6c224!1m3!2m2!1d-116.8659793!2d34.2269221!3e0!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0x99adeca7fdcaa5f4). Personally I preferred Slide Lake more, was much more scenic and seemed to have more space for camping.

Looking more and more like I will be out for Ocatillo Wells with some friends. They are heading out there Friday to Sunday.
If you guys want to come, feel free we should be by the 4x4 training area
-
I'll be busy with family stuff tomorrow, but I'm in for most anything Saturday and Sunday; Cleghorn, Bradshaw, Ocotillo, Big Bear...
-
Looks like Jordan and I are going to go camp south of Ocotillo Wells tomorrow.
No real plans other than sitting around a campfire and relaxing.
We'll be meeting up here
12pm Friday, November 27th.
GPS
33.249426, -116.673567
Googly Maps
https://www.google.com/maps/place/29271+CA-79,+Warner+Springs,+CA+92086/@33.2495785,-116.6757764,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80dbb89ebcb577c3:0xe2e1db5e63400f5b?hl=en
Then we'll head into Ocotillo and head down Split Mountain Rd.
Down and around the mountain and up into the hills.
I'd love to post the exact campsite and specific directions, but it's not really on a trail.
Jordan has found this spot while exploring and it's accessed by driving up a wash.
We'll be camping roughly here
https://www.google.com/maps/place/32%C2%B056'33.2%22N+116%C2%B002'41.6%22W/@32.9396952,-116.0032547,13416m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0?hl=en
As you can see, it's kind of an in the know sort of place, so if you'd like to tag along, please post up so we don't leave you!
We'll be monitoring the hamburger on 146.535.
All are welcome, I'm guessing 4x4 or lots of shovel work.
-
I will be camping near the 4x4 training area.

Awesome photos Steve, looks like you guys had a great time. The wife has already decided that we are DONE with the drama of huge family gatherings on Thanksgiving every year, and we've decided that we're going to retreat next year for some fun like this - just her and the boy and I.
I'm going to throw it out there now that I think this should become an annual SCCX run/tradition, as long as you and knightrider don't mind sharing your spot with the group. We can plan it nice and early, and prevent the last minute scramble of finding somewhere to go and who can attend. Maybe even have a makeshift thanksgiving dinner out there :)

X2!! We are totally down for making this an annual Thanksgiving run/tradition!!! ;D ;D

Great pics Steve! With just a few rigs I'm sure you can explore and cover a lot more ground compared to a full group.

"Hello? Hello? Are sure you loaded this thing?" :D
I am completely in to have a yearly Thanksgiving run with a supplemental Thanksgiving dinner cooked up on the trail. :) I usually only have one or two days set for family stuff, so I would be free for the remaining Friday through Sunday of that Thanksgiving weekend.
-
I am willing to lead a thanksgiving camping trip out to the desert. I can't guarantee we will be in as secluded or awesome spot as in Steve's pictures. the spots I know would not support large groups and the spots that do support large groups, normally are quite the busy little toyhauler towns, but I'm sure I can work something out.

Looks like you guys had a great trip, fantastic photography!
-
Well done all around guys!
I like Joe's Thanksgiving idea. But he better look out.
There seems to be a new photo picture guy in town >:D
-
I'll just have to start bringing the BIG gear along on trips. >:D
-
LOL!
Somebody once showed me how to use knobs and sliders in an iPad photo editing app.
All those came from my iPhone. The composition may be OK, but the quality is still camera phone.
Joe's images always have that crisp, fresh out of the manual focus feeling!
