Title: Anyone want to do a quick trail run?
Post by: ghenderson21 on November 23, 2015, 10:20:43 AM
Right now I'm just running a home business, so my boss lets me do what I want ;)

I'm curious to check out some easier local stuff. I have Kelly Safari AT tires, which are nothing special, and that's about it.

Was thinking about checking out Cleghorn, or maybe Santiago, or even some more local stuff around Murrieta/Elsinore area.

Anyone who wants to show me the ropes, I'm available most days. Let me know what works!

This week is tough with Thanksgiving coming up but I'm good from next week on, during the week.

Doesn't have to be this week either. Anytime between now and the new year, would be awesome.

After the new year, I'll likely be joining the corporate world again, but we'll see what the future holds.

So from now until the end of the year, ready to roll most days with a heads up. See you guys on the trail!

This week is tough with Thanksgiving coming up but I'm good from next week on, during the week.

I've been looking for some help finding the "back way" through De Luz and up into the Cleveland National Forest, Mr. Duffman. Maybe we can put together a run up those roads you guys took in the past (the trip where xxSVxx had the wheel-mishap). Those should make for some fun wheeling in a mostly stock rig. And if we end at the Wildomar OHV park, we can mess around on the trails there too for anyone who wants to flex their mods a little.

I can usually sneak a Tuesday or Wednesday off if I know about it at least a week in advance. :)

Geoff - there's some fun exploring to be had in the hills north of Canyon Lake, on either side of the river. Not sure if you're closer to the north gate or the east gate, but from the north gate, you can head back into the hills from Meadowbrook and from the east gate, you can get back there through Quail Valley. Might be a little rough in a stock rig though, you could end up beating it up a little without any lift or at least rock sliders. Could be a fun place to go explore one day though, and it's right in your back yard. I'd head out there with you if we did it on a day when I'm free.

No problem Joe.  We can even make that a short Saturday run if that is easier.  We can start in Fallrook and end up in your and Geoff's back yard.  We will have to limit the run to 37 trucks though 8)

I've always wondered the legality of cruising that stuff, but I may just have to go back there, especially if I can sneak some rods in the X. Will gladly take some people fishing back there after some exploring.

That sounds like some fun!

I know of a great spot on the Quail Valley side that's 100% legal to access and has lots of shoreline access. It's kind of a hangout spot for dirtbags (it is Quail Valley, after all!) sometimes, but we'll be fine if we just don't make eye contact.  :D

Again, it's a bit rough with some really deep ruts and rocky patches, so it could be a bit rough in a stock rig. I know the rig is capable of making it, just not sure your comfort level with getting a scratch or a ding. Let me know! :)

I have family obligations until Sunday, but I am TRYING to weasel my way out of tomorrow's plans. I'll second the "where and what time?" question.

C'mon Joe, or you may never know the 'Secret' trail to a biker bar.

How about we meet at my place around 10am?

How long is the run? We have some friends stopping by, but just maybe I can go.

Is it do-able to run stock?
Title: Re: Anyone want to do a quick trail run?

Stock is fine.  At least 3 hours.  There are a couple of bail-out points along the way.

I posted this in my Thanksgiving 2015 thread, but I thought I'd post it here, too.

Looks like Jordan and I are going to go camp south of Ocotillo Wells tomorrow.
No real plans other than sitting around a campfire and relaxing.

We'll be meeting up here
12pm

GPS
33.249426, -116.673567

Googly Maps
https://www.google.com/maps/place/29271+CA-79,+Warner+Springs,+CA+92086/@33.2495785,-116.6757764,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80dbb89ebcb577c3:0xe2e1db5e63400f5b?hl=en

Then we'll head into Ocotillo and head down Split Mountain Rd.
Down and around the mountain and up into the hills.

I'd love to post the exact campsite and specific directions, but it's not really on a trail.
Jordan has found this spot while exploring and it's accessed by driving up a wash.

We'll be monitoring the hamburger on 146.535.

All are welcome, I'm guessing 4x4 or lots of shovel work.

Thanks for the heads up Steve.

I am officially canceling this run :'(

Joe, please don't burn up all your favors.  We will do this another time!

Geoff and anyone else, we will get together soon.

We are not really doing a trail but we will be in a very interesting area.  The area is not really an area where many people go(kinda why I like it), it is an old bombing range that's not used any more.  If you want to tag along for the day, it should be fun.

Hi all. New here. I saw Fallbrook and I am in Fallbrook. I have lots of vacation to burn by the end of the year. I would be happy to tag along on a trail run. I usually go by myself and out of state. Would be good to find some local stuff and meet some folks. I am up for anything, easy or hard, it is all fun. Mike

That would be great, lunch or some such in Sandstone Canyon and wheeling after. We will probably hit Pinyon Mtn about 1000. I figure we will be through it and dropping into Fish Creek right around noon if that sort of schedule works good for you? I ran it this Saturday and had comms all the way through using the Laguna repeater at 147.150 + 107.2 PL so we can easily keep tabs on each others whereabouts.

New to the site/group, interested to join the Cleghorn run tomorrow, I see the general description of meeting on the West side of 15, but.... since, as far as I can tell Cleghorn road starts on the East side of 15, not sure exactly where to meet. I guess I'll just park myself at what I think is the start of Cleghorn road and wait for a herd of Xterras to come by :)

Welcome bud.
The run tomorrow is being coordinated on Facebook with our friends from "Socal Xterra and Frontiers" and not here on SCCX. You'll be good to be at the dirt lot just west of the I15 Cleghorn exit.

Yes!  If Joe doesn't pick a day soon, I will!!!  You're on notice Joe.

We will make it happen.
Sounds good.

Haha... if I recall correctly - last time I picked a date and even rearranged family plans to make it happen, the trip got blown off.  ;)

Anyway, I'm fully booked up this weekend and next weekend, but 4th of July weekend might work well if everyone wants to take a quick run. How about we meet at Duffman's place at 04:30 hours and get started? O0 Kidding of course, but I think Saturday the 2nd or Sunday the 3rd might be our best bet. Do either of those days work for you Duff and Riz? I'll have to run it by the wife for final approval, just to make sure there wasn't already something planned that I forgot about.

Sandstone Canyon

This VERY spot is what motivated me to get going on lifting my X and getting sliders.  I've been back through Sandstone Canyon before, and it's an absolutely beautiful drive.  Sucks there was a cave in and now that rock pile is in the way.

Boy, that sounds familiar.  Damn.  OK, let's try this again.  I am good for July 2 or 3.  Let's do it.

I can't verify it because I didn't have the time to get in there when I went through Pinyon Mtn but I hear guys have been able to crawl over that last rock fall back there. Maybe when the weather cools down a bit I'll go snoopin round there to see what's possible.

When I went back, my stock height was just a little too low, and I ended up losing some paint on my passenger side and ended up having to back off the pile.  MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH...

I went through, it was a little tight by the roof corner, the group I was with didn't want to venture further. it was harder to U-Turn

This was at that big rock fall near the end of the trail that came down about 3 or 4 years ago?

Hey RBDuffer... I sent you a PM about the Fallbrook to Hell's Kitchen run.

Thanks, Got it Joe.

We can meet at the Fallbrook Cafe around 8am and leave by 9.  It's on Mission about a mile east of Main.  There's a Shell station across the

street.  The run will take 3 to 4 hours, longer if the OHV area is open.  Lunch or just a pop at Hell's Kitichen is fun when they're open?

See what day the family likes and we will take it from there.
