Title: Disable Yaesu WIRES
Post by: knightrider on November 15, 2015, 12:13:16 PM
I stumbled on this page and thought it might be of some use to some members here, myself included.  While on the DV trip, CHUSA radio had been inadvertently switched into WIRES mode, Yaesu makes this function entirely too easy IMO to activate and here are instructions of how to turn it off so it cannot be activated so easily.

I myself have switched on WIRES mode on my VX-170.  A momentary press of the 0 key is all it takes to activate WIRES on my handheld and the 0 key is not labelled with the WIRES symbol so figuring out what I did to activate it normally requires a look in the manual.

Thank you!  I got burned by this on the drive out and could not find how to toggle out of it on my 8800.

Thank you to to Tony and Jordan for helping me get this sorted out while on the trail.

someday I'll be smart enough to do this on my own.
Cheers

Yea I'm glad wires is pretty hidden on my FTM-350AR, I however still activate it accidentally on my ht from time to time.

Pretty silly that that pressing the left volume knob will activate it on the 8800/8900, and of course its not very clearly documented in the manual for those radios.
