Where were you on Hell's Revenge last week?................ Man we had a three ringed circus goin on after I got out on 3 wheel drive.
Explain? What happened?

Explain? What happened?
Was a big mess, my RCV's were taken out two days prior to leaving for Moab. They are solid, but the install had issues with the Icon's. Big long story that stripped the gears in the hub so mod's need to be made. That being said, to go to GONE, I put back the stock half shafts. On Hell's revenge at a lunch stop, I was explaining to Kenny exactly what happened and he wanted to see the area I was talking about with the RCV's. This was a good omen because while I was pointing out to him the issues I had, I could clearly see the driver OEM half shaft were dangling out of the front diff. After limping out of Hell's Revenge in 3 WD used sparingly and dropping a decent amount of fluid along the way, I went to Terry's camp. There a mass of folks jumped in to help, Kenny, Steve-O, Steve, Terry, Scott, Dani, Joey, Sue and even Todd the Chihuahua stepped up to get me trail worthy the next day. Had a great BBQ getting that spider gear shaft out of the R180 diff and got me back on the trail with a HUGE thanks to Terry who had a spare output seal sitting around. One thing I can say is you will know who your friends are when you get into a sticky spot.
At the end many, many thanks to Scott and Sue for providing such a wonderful BBQ that fed everyone who jumped in to help me out.
In the end all I can say is Family is where it's at, thank you guys.

And, on top of all that, SCCX has the term 'CLUB' in it....which, in the event anyone didn't already know, WE ARE NOT.......which, can be confusing to say the least...

"A loosely associated band of merry men and women whom share a common interest in the outdoors and 4x4 vehicles"
Had to modify it from "nissan" to "4x4" on account of GeoTaco.
Also, seeing as we're not a club, club... I think the founders missed a real opportunity when naming our not club.
Instead of SCCX, it could of been SCXC. Say that fast out loud. Very fitting for our members.

That's some crazy stuff Celt! Kudos to everyone out there for helping a brother out. Looks like you guys all had a blast though!

Except, there is/was an SCXC....there's a guy here in town w/ a black 1st gen w/ an SCXC sticker on his rear window....pretty sure that 'club' died a quiet death

I didn't know I was so photogenic, Steve C that one was the first attempt at a field repair because we thought the shaft may have come out without breaking. Well wasn't long until we figured out it was snapped off and in the worst possible place inside that diff. After getting out on 3 wheel drive I limped it over to Terry's where the real fun began. The last picture is called The Drop, it's actually a lot of fun to do the obstacle.

We can make a club...if that's the direction everyone chooses.
Pros:
-actually a club
-hand pick/vote in members
-declare non profit status with the IRS...don't pay taxes on donations etc but must file each year as a 501.3C.
-actually organize a set of Bylaws, vote and accept protocols of said club
-recognition with CAL 4WD Association
-would need to be maintained by a passionate, and unselfish group of like minded individuals.
-dues collected to fund stickers, shirts, swag, etc.
Cons-

I'm new here, so I'm still learning the ropes; but I thought you were a Club? Are you guys just being sarcastic? It says Club in the Forum Title. It says club all over the home page and multiple other places......

And you have at least one person listed as BOD. So to say you aren't a club is kind of confusing to Newbies..... ??? ???

To be in the "Club" you have to know about the wearing of the secret fez on the trips. There are other extremely important things to know such as Fire Jenga, the elusive top secret that nobody ever knows about preset HAM frequencies, however I digress. Since I can't talk about the secret fez, I'm not exactly sure I can eesplain any of this over the net. I suppose you will just have to attend some of the events.

Yes...it is confusing.
The "club" that everyone is speaking of, is really a website...the one we are all posting on...and the term "club" has been loosely used but never formally designated.
This group, as many others will attest to, is more of a social group...that loves everything Xterra/Nissan related.
The best way to explain it is this:
It is not a formal club, but is a part of the name just for naming sake. A few people have tried to formalize the social group, to the detriment of several of it's members. Some of the power went to individuals heads...rules were attempted to be "enforced" on runs, people's expectations were either elevated or deflated, and it just didn't work...and as Austin Powers once said, "You took my MOJO baby."
In the more recent history of SCCX, people just posting and organizing runs has worked (as xxSVxx stated, if it ain't broke...), and anything more formal than exercising common sense has been rebuffed.
Rules and formal organization, unless accepted by the masses, can polarize individuals. It can work...but requires maintenance.
What I'm really trying to say is...if you want a sticker, head out to one of the runs that I'm attending and I'll slap one in your hand. Right now they are free...t-shirts are $10...and everything else that happens here is priceless. Just ask RBDuffer. :)

Mostly nobody wants to be liable or reponsible. For anything. At all. That's how I got to be BOD, short straw sorta thing.
Carry on :P

I don't do public nudity. Nor will I be unarmed. Therefore, I will not be going to soak in the hot springs. NPS says that the campground is supposed to be clothed. I will not let the hippies keep me out!!

I don't do public nudity. Nor will I be unarmed.
I was planning to resurrect the "Apple Pie" run this November, and was thinking that Blair Valley might even be better than Fish Creek (where we always went in the past), since we know some spots to fit a big group and it's 2WD friendly. Only problem is that we generally hike up to the Marshall South homesite on the top of Ghost Mountain, and in keeping with Marshall South's traditions, that hike is "clothing optional". (Actually, it sounds like he mandated it.) Plus, it's located inside the State Park boundary, so no firearms allowed.
But, just so that no one panics needlessly, unlike Marshall South, we do not require nudity to visit the homesite. It's strictly optional, and I can guarantee that I, for one, will be fully clothed for that hike up Ghost Mountain.
Look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about.
-
... Plus, it's located inside the State Park boundary, so no firearms allowed. ...
Firearms are allowed in CA State Parks with a CA CCW:
http://www.calccw.com/Forums/where-can-t-i-carry/1103-can-i-carry-ca-state-park.html
Also National Parks:
http://www.calccw.com/Forums/where-can-t-i-carry/7523-national-park-concealed-carry.html
But I'm not talking about target shooting or hunting.

Pretty much looks like the Autana Tepui Tent (with Annex), but half the price.
Bought from 4x4 place in Santa Ana. Still in the box. Hopefully Mike gets off at a decent hour tonight and we can get it installed with pics before sun goes down.
The guy gave me some serious side eye about installing it on the OEM Xterra Rack (due to weight load). But he was very helpful about getting me setup with the right length bolts and longer plates. It was fortuitous that there was a McFadden's across the street! Hopefully this goes well.
-
Awesome!
Where in Santa Ana?

Gotta love the install on a Thursday...and camping in the RTT the next night.

That's what the Annex below is for - it's supposed to fit a queen air mattress.
Plus access to the passenger side door of the X ;)

Holy Moly that thing is huge.... How comfortable is it sleeping in that kind of setup? Just from looking at those they look really nice and appear to be able to withstand a pretty good wind storm. I would guess the biggest part would just trying to make sure you are on as level ground as possible for the night.

I thought that the whole idea of the rooftop tent was to offer protection from wild animals. How does that work in the Annex?
Nice looking tent. And, without the Annex you do have an awning, sort of.

So I feel like I've thread jacked the Anti-Thread Jack with a Tenting Jack...... ;) (Moderators feel free to move to a tenting thread)
It is HUGE! And was SOOOOOOOO Comfortable sleeping. Probably would fit 3 people if you don't mind "togetherness". We set it up in a 28 mph wind storm and it performed amazingly. I kept thinking we should pull in the window vents, but it held up just fine. (No, I didn't sleep much the first night with all that wind).
I watched that video ChrisHaynesUSA posted in the "Death/Saline Valley/RaceTrack/Lippincott Mine Road 7-11 November 2015" thread and that's what sold me on the tent. (So it's all his fault ;) )
First night we were on a slight slope with no problem. Ladder is adjustable.

Mike isn't as fond of the Annex as I am. Tent goes up in about 15 min. Annex takes approx another 15 min. We will get faster with time. The Annex isn't required and can stay home or in the back of the rig all folded up. But I like it for a changing room, put your stuff in room, access the car in your PJ's room, etc. It has a rubberized floor which would be great in rain/mud. Or you can zip the floor out for sand/grass.
If we are by ourselves, probs just use the tent. If with a group or multi-nights, probs put up the Annex.
And yes, this is our new awning!! ;D
I missed your post that you got this, but saw the facebook posts and was like "WTF?!? When did they get a RTT?!?"
Great find!!!
I oversold the awning, Joe, and ended up with an RTT! LOL
Tepui Tents has some nice videos showing how it all works, but we can demostrate sometime if people are interested in seeing the whole system..
But don't pay TT prices (unless you have extra money to throw around). We got the exact same tent for 1/2 TT's price.
-
You should come to the food truck Thursday and set that sucker up!

Craigslist $925 (https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/spo/5184193253.html) vs. Tepui Tent $1800 (+$150 shipping) (http://tepuitents.com/products/autana-sky) (Ours doesn't have the skylight - didn't really like the idea 'cuz how is that rainproof?)
Not sure about Wed or Thurs. Depends on Mike's schedule. :-\
Thanks Barb!
I wonder if they have smaller ones?
Can you buy it without the annex?

Smaller? I don't think so, but you could ask....
Comes automatically with the annex (all in the same box) ;)

This came to me today.
Subject: 10 Things to Consider
1. I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.
2. I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People move out of the way much faster now.
3. You can tell a lot about a woman's mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she's probably angry.
4. Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.
5. You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.
6. I don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.
7. I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.
8. I decided to change calling the bathroom the "John" and renamed it the "Jim". I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
9. Dear paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers. If you find one, what's your plan?
10. Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.
Just makes you go Hmmm. :)
-
Number 3 reminds me of this:

I'd love to be able to get that going for everyone and think it's a great idea, I just don't know where to go for the design unlike I was able to do for JF's shirt.
If anyone has any ideas on design or a place to go for some Mojave Rd shirts I'm all over it!
Posting this here so as to no longer thread jack the AAT T-shirt thread.
Sort of came up with a logo - for your viewing pleasure...

As to a t-shirt shop, I've come up with a blank. Anyone have a friend who owns a shop or likes to silk screen on the side?

Hey that looks pretty neat, thanks for doing some work coming up with the design. Maybe just tossing out the idea of having the SCCX logo on the front left breast of the shirt and that design on the back?
-

I chose blue 'cuz I was thinking long sleeve black t-shirts and winter colors. But the color can be whatever y'all want. 8)
I didn't know if people wanted their name (real or forum) on the front left breast - that's the derby coming out in me...LOL - It might cost more to have the SCCX logo on the front - unless it was just one color.
Just let me know and I can change the design to be whatever works best for the group. ;)

I know a guy...

However the shirts turn out I'll take two mediums. ;D

I would sure like to get in on a couple of shirts if this gets off the ground.

Ron Swanson played an crucial role in that.
If you want more Ron (Nick Offerman) I would strongly encourage you to read his book Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living
In fact, if you are into this sort of thing, I would recommend listening to it. It's read by Nick Offerman and is fantastic.

Can I just say: Having two awesome rigs from SCCX'ers submitted for TOTM is HARD CORE!!! 8)
But also makes voting very difficult....... ;)
-
You know which one to choose, Barb. >:D
:D
-
Just remember - your vote is public, so we'll know who you love more. >:D
J/K. :) If I were you, I'd vote for one of us and ask FixItGuy to vote for the other. OR.... wait until closer to the end of the voting period and see who needs the votes more. If one of us is just a few votes away from TOTM vs the other one being way behind in the polls, there's no sense in throwing away your vote on the one who is way behind. I know I wouldn't take it personally. :)
-
clean xterras should not be able to win TOTM, just saying...
-
And whoops... I stand corrected. Looks like the poll results are hidden this month. :) Looks like you'll just have to vote for the rig you like more. ;)
I'm actually very happy that they hid the results. Now people will finally vote for whatever they want to vote for, not based on current vote count or pressure to vote for a friend or whatever.

You're on to something there - I think we could easily muster up a lot of support for anyone in our group that submits. I think YOU should submit for December. We'll be sure to get an awesome photo on Sunday of your rig with the new snorkel and other latest mods. :D It'll be so festive with the wreath, and it'll make the rest of the country jealous of our weather as they submit photos of their rigs buried in snow. :)

That is due in large part to a strong voting contingent from NORAC (Nissan Off Road Association of Colorado)...but we can muster and achieve that same thing.

Does your username show up under the SCCX banner image at the top left corner of the page? There should be a link under "Hello Ultrapc40" that says "Show unread posts since last visit." If that doesn't show for you, go to the upper right corner of the page and click on the white down arrow to the right of "Southern California Club Xterra." If that doesn't work, shoot me a pm with a screenshot and i will see if I can figure out what's wrong.

Too soon?
The first mishap, this truck is done for the remainder of the trip... :o >:D
The Dalton Hwy boys had their first mechanical mishap.
In America, Gasoline pump handles are generally black and Diesel pump handles are generally Green. In Canadia, sometimes Diesel pump handles are black. Pay close attention to the labels and signs.
The first of many life lessons to be learned on this trip.

Green and black pump handles must've been left off the laminated name tag...
On a serious note...maybe Chris should've alerted the Wine Country Rock Crawler Jeep group of his plans so they could rally to the cause?

For starters, Canada is still in America. You'd think Mr. World Traveler himself would know that.
Second; just, wow. Can we say effed-up cats? Our cats are already so sensitive to even just the littlest amount of fuel not burning in the engine. I can only imagine how bad the damage would be. This rig may have emissions problems for the rest of its life. :(
This does, however, remind me of something that happened a few weeks ago at the Sam's Club gas station by my house. I pulled up to the front pump while the rear pump was occupied by a volkswagen sedan with two girls who appeared to be between the ages of 16 and 18. The girls were all too busy texting and giggling and chasing each other around and just being dumb as I got out of my car to start pumping my gas. They had already been at the pump before I pulled up, and hadn't even started pumping their gas yet until I was almost halfway done filling my own tank. They finally managed to figure out how to insert their membership card and ATM card, and got a few gallons of gasoline pumped into their car before they hung up the nozzle and prepared to drive off. I had just put my nozzle back on the hook and was printing my receipt when I heard them start their car and heard the very distinct noise of a diesel engine. Knowing that there is no Diesel at these pumps (there is only one pump at the whole station with Diesel), I knew they had just put gasoline in their tank. I tried to get their attention as they pulled away from the pump, but they were still too busy being dumb teenagers and didn't even notice me practically standing in front of them waving my arms. As they sped through the parking lot and turned out onto the road, I wondered just how far they were going to make it, and wondered even more how angry their parents were going to be. When I left, I didn't see them broken down out on the road, so they must have made it at least a few blocks.

Took me a minute (actually five) to get my forum bearings "over there...". Jordan was calling a trailer a trailer...and it is a realisitic question fielded by knightrider...that Mr. Bills defended quite nicely, given his title of "Super Mod."
I enjoyed the rush to fault the cheaply disguised welds (I mean that trailer did cost $8,000, I know I saw the receipt and followed it's fuc**ing blinking tail lights all the way from Las Vegas to Moab...) and DV washboard roads...and maybe it's overloaded tongue storage box? Really...
That downed rig looked like Sean Taylor's/snelltaylor, quite possibly the smartest of the NorCal group headed to AK...hopefully theres room in Chris's "tongue box" for all of his ammo and barley whine so they can sojourn on.
I need to stop...so many sarcastic angles with this thread...just stop...count to 10...stop. ;)

Simply stating the facts sir...just as plainly as correctly identifying "human error." (well done Rick ;) )
As I know Chris loves to post pictures of and recall his past accomplishments, and I felt it necessary (and justified, since we all had to suffer the 2.5 hour delay at Teakettle Junction) to really pull back the curtain of who the true heroes of the 2015 DV CHUSA trip were...and was surprised myself that he had not reached out to them via their forum to properly discuss his route and scotchy-scotchness.
Although, as their moniker implies, their tastes might be a bit more, "refined."
So much forum fodder...so little time. :D

Well, getting this back on [no] track . . . here is the latest from CHUSA, posted today on NewX, in his exact words:
"Arrived manly hot springs.
Eating dinner.
Hot springs at 630pm local time."
I used the aerial view on the Garmin site to see just where they were, and I could have sworn I heard some banjo music coming from my computer when I zoomed in on the place. I could be mistaken though.
-
Then we have this other little jewel just posted.... "Mmmmmm.... Manly men in Manley Hot Springs....." :-X

I wonder if Surf and Turf is giving them remote tech "support"?

Okay guys, we've had our fun (I'm guilty as well)...lets bring the humor back above 8th grade level and not create an issue with the other kids in the sandbox over on thenewx.org.
Chris, Jay, and Robert are all significant contributors in their own ways, just like us.
Let's move along and drag ourselves back to a respectful tone...new folks to the site read all of this, and at some point have to wonder, "Who are these guys?"

The Care Bear thing reminded me of a Simpson's episode I saw recently, the one where Homer was attacked by a bear, and developed a phobia about anything to do with a bear. In one hallucination, it went something like this:
"Are you a Care Bear."
"I'm an Intensive Care Bear."
"Why does a bear need a crowbar?"
"I don't like to get my hands dirty."
One of the best Simpson's ever.
Speaking of bears . . . I wonder if they needed the .45-70 Marlins? (I think by now we all know who I mean by "they".)

I would venture to guess a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun may prove more useful but that's just me.

Anyone else had their dog blow chunks on the trail? Any tips/tricks on how to prevent projectile dog vomit?
