Anyone interested in a Baja run? Deserts, Sierras, Beaches, Sea Food, Camp fires and shinanigans?

camping, 4x4ing, cooking, drinking.... soaking in hot springs....

check....check .....check.....

1 Day going to  Guadalupe Canyon (overnight)
1 Day  going south to San Felipe (overnight)
1 Day going north to Ensenada (overnight)
1 Day comin home

This itinerary can be modified to anything a group wants to do down there.

may be even bring a Taco :)  (or a friend with a Taco ...) :) :)

Can you speak Spanish well enough to keep us out of trouble and offer the "IF" necessary bribe?
My Spanish is very rudimentary.
But everybody loves Taco's right?

I know there are plenty of offroads in this area so we would not have to stay on highway 3 or 5 if we did not want to.

Can I bury my poop or should I pack it out? :)

My cousin currently runs chase/support for chrishaines tours. We have also spent a lot of time between MiksSkyRanch and SantaVeronica. My cousin knows Baja like a true racer does...with his eyes closed. I also speak fluent Spanish and have a ton of family in Tijuana.

I sense good KARMA with those affiliated with Chris Haynes.

What do you think about Guadalupe Canyon-San Filipe-Ensenada loop?

Can we bring our new Taco?  :)

What is your true opinion of the known safety issues Toro?

We are more than likely out for a Thanksgiving run...or another major time commitment this year with the CHUSA/DV trip plus a few others sprinkled amongst the remainder of 2015/16.

I'd like to follow this thread though...and see how things shape up.

We do enjoy tacos... ;D

Don't forget that you need passports to get out of Mex and into the USA now.....it wasn't that way for a loooong time

I'm interested but the timing is going to be critical for me as well....I miss baja

My point is...don't plan it around our schedule.  We have a lot going on especially with another unplanned move.

Let's see what Toro comes up with and go from there...as he develops a plan of attack.

Very true...the simple baja trip of years past requires more planning now.

My timing is leaning towards October of 2016.

Safety issues are just that...issues.
I can say most of the drama happens in the border cities when you look for it. As far as I'm concerned, trouble rarely strikes at random.
Once you get down into Baja, tourists are the norm.

That video made me wanna DISCO DISCO!!!!  :)  Very beautiful area...I hope who ever goes is safe and makes it back to the USA in one piece.  I agree with Danny about the biggest trouble being in the border cities, and once you get a little south, tourism in the norm...BUT...IF trouble does find you, there is no predicting what could happen.  Just my two cents!

I spent my childhood in Tijuana. Learned to drive when I was 12 and used to ride dirt bikes in the streets. I haven't visited my family since passports became manditory.
I do see them in San Diego at my Grandpa's place but haven't been to a good family gathering in 8 years.
   ......and I'm a wet back....
There's that too.

I would love to go, as a passenger.  I'm not too keen on driving south of the border.

I absolutely have to visit Hacienda Santa Veronica, Laguna Hason and Mikes Sky Ranch. We used to dirt bike there about 25 years ago and I have to go back.
Lobsters at Puerto Nuevo are also a must!

Lobster at Puerto Nuevo are also a must!

That was a staple of my early teens....my whole family would road trip it down to Rosarito on Fri night, stay in the mobile homes behind Rosarito Beach Hotel...me and my bro would surf K38 and the fam would do dinner in Puerto Nuevo an feast on lobster

Now, I must say....I went back about 6-7 years ago....and the 'lobsters' were no bigger than large crawfish....they've overfished the holy crap outta that place....but, maybe they've caught on since then and scaled it back a bit....

I remember as a kid going to TJ all the time. I would get my summer haircut down there and a pair of hurachi's (the tire tread kind) I had worn out the previous year. As I got older we would go to San Felipe all the time for vacations. I miss the 4 fish tacos for a $1 days. The people were always so friendly and it was just a pleasure to go there. Unfortunately, the crime has changed things where I'm just not willing to take a chance of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I know I would have an absolute blast going with you guys but I just can't take the risk. When you guys go please take lots of pics and post them!!!!!

Hmmm...we used to pit crew for BFGoodrich in Baja from 1977 to 1982...good times. Used to camp out at Ojos Negros and watch the racers jump the cattle crossings.

Stayed north of Rosarito Beach in a place called Cantamar...then later in my formative years used to frequent Hussongs Cantina in Ensenada.

Seconded....I still flinch when I hear whistles....and I get a faint taste of suuuper watered down tequila being poured down my throat....and then some bartender violently shaking my head....

And I can't stop giving them more money to do it to my friends and I all night long.......ugh
