Title: Mod Day: Duff's Landing - Saturday February 21, 2015

The call was put out

The call was answered

Hey Guys,
Saturday sounds great... 7:30 sound like sh**.  We will start at 9:00 and be fine.  The spacer sounds easy enough.  If you can, spray all nuts and bolts concerned with Kroil or PB Blaster ASAP, that will help for sure.
JF, even if you don't get all your parts, bring what you got and we will see what we can do.  Jordan or any other wrenches, feel free to come and watch the rookies skin knuckles.
Anyone else!  It's open house, bring it in....at 9:00 ;)
I'll PM my address.  Here's my # 760-645-3491

These get togethers are a great opportunity to meet some fellow xterra enthusiasts and put faces to screen names.  Heck, you may even get some help with a project you're not too confident on.  However, don't expect to show up and have your work done for you.  These are hands on (your hands) do it yourself type of deals with *adult *supervision.

Duffman is located in the city of Fallbrook, post up here and he will PM you the address.

Steve C, will you be attending the Duff man's Mod day?  If so, I'll bring over those factory skids I have...but this WILL NOT exclude you from the previous deal about Mountain Biking Diamond Valley Lake one day in March!

Steve better be there - he's bringing the hardware for my AAL setup.  J/K - can't say thanks enough for that Steve!  ;D

Randy - do you have C clamps to use for the springs, or do you need me to bring some with me? I always feel weird showing up without any tools.  ::)

Hey Jordan, I bought those battery terminals you recommend. Can you help me install them on Saturday?
I have no idea what I'm doing. Do I need anything besides the terminals that come in the box?

These things you say about me, they are true.  However, really it was no bother.

That trip would still have taken me forever during lunch time, because I would have ended up stopping at the Donut Star, 7-11, Taqueria De Anda and Charlie's Best on the way.

Yes I do, but feel free to bring anything that you think will help.  It's better to need it than not eat it... or some sort of bla bla bla.

Special thanks to Duffman for hosting us. I got my add-a-leaf installed and it looks and rides EXCELLENT! (photos to follow in my build thread as soon as I can take some). Looks like Duke562(rmaligie) never did show up... did anyone ever hear from him?

If you wern't there you missed out on fun, food, beer and cookies.  Even Jordan brought his GF Jill to 'celebrate' her birthday.
And we got a lot of work done :D

Great seeing you and your kids, Clint!

Thanks for the skidplates.

Those led lights you have on your roof rack, can the common man obtain those?

Yes they can Steve!  I went with Tuff LEDS from Amazon.com

These are the side lights...

And these are the front lights...

I was talking about the cool ones with the amber, white and 3rd brake light.

Joe, linky me to blinky please.

Here are some photos from the day.

I got some new, beefier battery terminals.  Jordan installed them for me.
Joe added some sweet add-a-leafs and now his ride is sitting sweet!
I also got a Loadwarrior from FrankB and did a little rust remediation and paint.

Pretty sure he is running the Whelen TIR3 lights. Actually, it looked like the Galls version, which are still made by Whelen but sold under the Galls name and have slightly different flange (and are just as bright!).

If so, they would be these ones here: http://www.galls.com/galls-surface-mount-led-light?PMSRCE=92350001&SESSIONID=000000126837833 (http://www.galls.com/galls-surface-mount-led-light?PMSRCE=92350001&SESSIONID=000000126837833)

Search around on their site a bit, because they sell them in packages of two or four as well with a little bit of savings. You can also search google, amazon or ebay for "TIR3" and find all kinds of them - both genuine whelen and generic.

I'll let Clint chime in with how he did the install, but it looks like he just mounted six of the lightheads to a bar and mounted the bar to his roof rack. The light heads typically come with a small flange and rubber gasket for the back that allows them to mount on any flat surface, and there are countless brackets available for them (the most common one being a small "L" style bracket that allows you to mount them the way Clint has his).

You might have a hard time bying the red ones from certain retailers, but people use them all the time as 3rd brake lights (especially on motorcycles) so it is do-able.

Joe is correct, I bought those lights from galls and also bought three of the "two light" L brackets, drilled some holes in the bar of my roof rack and wired them up! I used a 4 pin trailer harness for the power / ground wires so I could easily disconnect them when I remove the roof rack.  Pretty easy setup, I wired the brake lights right through the third brake light, and the white lights are through the cargo lamps that my frontier has.  I then ran a separate power line up to the flashy lights.

As for Galls, I'm not sure how they'd react to selling the red lights.  I know I "verified" my account with them years ago through my employer...but I don't think they restrict the red LED's at all.

As long as the red is not solid steady red to the front it shouldn't be an issue .

The steady red is for emergency vehicles only .
