Title: titan differential
Post by: Motorpig77 on January 17, 2015, 09:45:36 AM
Hey guys, so the boot on my driver side CV joint is blown... And I'm thinking this is a sign to push up my Titan Swap...But I'm having a hard time finding a Titan diff, who did you guys go through? Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There is a truck salvage yard in Norwalk, Pioneer Truck Salvage, that has them for $650.  I picked up my titan LCA there for $70 each.  They said they would sell the entire front drive with suspension for just under and grand.

Have you given any thought to going with RCV half shafts and not worrying about the titan swap?

I've thought about it, especially now since I can't find an M205 for a reasonable price.  I called the place in Norwalk and they don't have one.  I have to wait till Tuesday to check one last place in riverside.

When I last check prices, I found a complete M205 with half shafts included for about $700, if I can find something like that again, I'm golden! The half shafts are 450 but I'll still need the CV assembly to go with it

I have been super happy with my RCV's although expensive, you can't beat the warranty on them. Without doing a Titan swap you can keep a narrower profile. Although you will get varying opinions that R-180 is just as strong as the 205 with lockers and the better half shafts. I'm sure Steve over at Rugged Rocks would be happy to assist you.

I'll give him a call, may i ask what you paid for them? The website lists them at $2000

As I remember it the price was right at 2k, maybe just a bit more with tax. He's a really nice guy if you don't already know him.

Going full titan swap, talked to rugged rocks and he is going to source me an M205, for those of you who are swapped... Any hints, tricks, suggestions, or cautions I should be aware of?  I also plan on picking up some stock titan half axles with CVs.  Any advice is welcome

Only thing I'm aware of Clint is that the Stock titan half shafts BREAK too it you wheel them hard.

Thanks Terry, I'm going to add the RCVs to my list but it's a little out of the budget right now. ..hopefully I can make the stock ones last a while!

Sure Clint.   Just be prepared when you are out there rock crawlin'.   Actually a real plus is that the Titan half shafts are a hell of lot easier to change than the R180.   I would say it will take you quite a while to catch up with me and breaks.   8)

Lol, I've heard you're up to six or so Terry! Quite impressive! Steve at rugged rocks was telling me about a few of them!  I have to get my rig back up to 100% before the Bradshaw trail next month!

I don't think the half shafts listened when he waved his hand "you will not break today"

I keep hearing talk about a Goat Trail of doom or death or some such ideas being tossed around on this upcoming Bradhsaw Trail....

I all honesty...the Goat Trail of Doom is just a trail that the last group found leading from the camp site off of Gas Line Road, where they night drove to do some star gazing.

All accounts of farm animals and apocalyptic traverse may have been...well...exaggerated by Frank B. for dramatic effect.

But we shall see...and the Bradshaw Trail will be a nice shake down run for the newly to you diff.  :)

Looks real good, it might be from the point of view but dang those sliders look shinney. Need to fix that fast and get em' all good and scratched up.

They just got three coats of paint and were still wet when I snapped the photo... Three are installed and ready... I noticed my transfer case had a small leak when I was under there so dealer shall be getting a visit Monday... Hopefully just a shaft seal!

Ouch, anytime I hear dealership I begin to cringe and feel the need to hold onto my wallet vry tightly. Hope it turns out well and is a super easy fix.

Super sweet ride. We did the whole thing, even the brake lines, in about 4hrs. The biggest pain in the ass were the tie rods and all the gas passing.
Clint, you should get that looked at.

Looks GREAT Clint! Can't wait to see it on the Bradshaw run. If you're not using those shackles anymore (post swap), feel free to bring 'em along. If you're still using them, no worries. Keep 'em as long as you need. :)

By the way, I recognize the location in that photo. Just went in there for an alignment a few weeks ago.
