Title: Heading up to Pilot Rock
Post by: CAWoody on November 07, 2014, 01:56:35 PM
I was think about doing the Pilot Rock Trail out of San Bernardino Nov. 22 or 23.  Has anybody body done this part of the trail?  Will it still be open if the weather stays dry?

If anybody wants to join me, I am open to all comers. (that doesn't sound right. :-\)

Here's my plan.
- Meet at the Shell station on Hwy 138 at 9:00 AM
- Head to trial 2N33 at 10:00.
- Take the entire 2N33 to Hwy 173.
- Drop back down to trail 3N34 Willow Creek and take it to Hook Creek
- Go back through Lake Arrowhead and home.

I figure about 4 hours of trail time.  If anybody else wants to join us, we will be happy to have you.

I am interested in heading out, how difficult is this, I am planning on bring the family (wife, 2kids, dog)?  Looking at the pics/video from here, http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/Pilot_Rock_Truck_Trail, seeing a few trucks rolled over looks pretty gnarly, is there a bypass for that section?   Chris

Isn't Pilot the trail we did after Cleg? When I was heading into bigbear.

USKO and I did Pilot Rock after Cleaghorn last year.  Great trail for the family.  Moderate to easy with nice views.  It's easy to stay on the main trail.  Nilda and I did Willow Creek last year as well, and it's the same fun kind of trail without the altitude views.  Nothing dangerous on either trail, unless you are looking for it ;)

Yup that is the one I broke my rack and Pinion Danny.

Chris.  I don't remember an obstacle that was not bypassable.   To quote Ghostx  Easy peasey.

Come on folks lets do this.

I'm afraid I have to back out. :'(  I feel like I got hit by a truck and someone opened up a hose bid in my nose.  Have a great time.

Hey CaWoody,

Thanks for a great day, illness and all.   It was lots of fun.

We need to do this again and discover the other trails we didn't get a chance to check out.

I had a great time.  Thanks to Jonathan, Terry, Chris and family for coming along.  Pilot Rock is a beautiful trail with some fun obstacles and great views.  Here are a few picture and a link to more.  I would love to try this and Cleghorn when it's a little wetter and even some snow.  I keep my fingers crossed for a wet winter.

Jonathan did a great job listening to directions through some pretty tough places.  And this time, no body damage.
