Hey guys,
The Pre-Run is complete and the trails are in decent enough shape for a fun time! Lets meet at 830am at the Walmart located at 1231 S. Sanderson Avenue in Hemet. This is a large shopping center with a gas station and a couple fast food places for anyone who needed to get any last minute supplies and/or food for the trip!
We will travel out to the east end of town and start off taking "Old Control Road" up to the area of Idyllwild. We will then transition to the San Jacinto Truck Trail / Bee Canyon and head back down the hill. Cross the street and connect to Rouse Hill Road and then connect with the Thomas Mountain Trail. There are camping sites on Thomas Mountain and hopefully we can secure one as a group (for those of us who want to camp) and for the rest, I will escort you to the main road and we can all say our goodbyes! The views on these trails are amazing...bring your cameras and prepare for a good day!
Total mileage is around 52 miles of trail riding, so gas shouldnt be an issue. There are unfortunately camp fire restrictions in the national forest at this time that will probably still be in effect for that weekend. If for an unforseen reason all the yellow post sites are full on Thomas Mountain, an alternative site would the Santa Rosa Truck Trail just a few miles down the road.
Lunch will be on the trail somewhere so please plan accordingly. The trail riding "should" be complete by 4pm(ish) so for those of us who are camping, dinner will be at camp! As of right now, it looks like about half of us will be camping!
I don't want to make anything "mandatory" for this trip, but I would like at least one other person to have a CB in good working order so they can tail gun this trip. Obviously water and food for the day and a good working rig! If anyone has any questions about the area please let me know! Looking forward to a good day of wheelin' with some great views of the Valley! Hope to see y'all there!
Going:
1. Motorpig plus 2 dog and 2 kids and 1 girlfriend...and her little red Heep Rubicon!
2. Roadinspectress +Tom
3. Tripng
4. RBduffer (maybe)

Count me and the wife in. :)
-
That should be a great time to go. I did Idyllwild in not the greatest weather and did fine with a 2wd till I hit the snow ice mix. But count me in if my rig is down. It will be a good shake down run for her.

Put me on the list. I should be able to make this one.
-
Sweet! This will bad a good time for sure!
-
If you go up bees canyon, there's a trail that branches off. It's rated black diamond, but can be down in 4 low with no problems. It's adopted by the Hemet jeep club. It takes you from bees canyon to 243.

Haven't done the branch off yet well I was only 2wd before but I down for it if I'm up running then. Which it should be. This should be fun time. Hopefully there will be alittle mud too :D

Bees canyon normal only has mud on the second half when you start to climb into idyll wild, but that's only in the winter .
-
I'm not planning the branch off for this run just so you know...wanted to keep it 2wd friendly(ish), HOWEVER, I'm not opposed to a second run in the near future to tackle that branch off! We can discuss it more on the run and see who wants to tackle it!
-
Oh yea good point lol. So we can always see who's coming and go from there or do it later a date.

Jamie and I can make it out there for the day, and would love to see the trails on your side of the canyon
-
Add me to the list, Tom and I hopefully will have recovered from our previous weekend at Hurkey Creek.

It'll be fun to show them off! See you guys there!

I like that campsite...surprised you're not going to use one of the many yellow post sites in the area though! Hurkey is nice though...been there a few times!
-
Can't make the 18th.
I too have stayed at Hurkey Creek. I've done the 24hrs of Adrenaline race there a few times.
-
Every year for the past 27 Road Dept. takes over the group camping. We throw in 500+ lbs of beef, potatoes into our pit (that is locked so one else can use it), have horseshoe competition, bingo, games for the kids, egg toss, cake auction, the main meal on Sat., then the raffle (booze, bikes, games, etc.), then the DJ moves in till 10 p.m., Sunday pancake breakfast and then stagger home. After 4 days I am toast. But a good time for all.

You'll be missed Danny! :(

Alright, So, I was asked about the possibility of camping out for the evening after the run. I am definitly not opposed to this, but would like to know who would be interested so I can find a site suitable for the number of rigs / people. To those who don't want to camp, have no fear, the run will go as scheduled and I'll find a spot for the split group to part ways before heading to the camp site.
So please give me an answer on whether you are interested in camping for the night or just doing some wheeling and heading home at the end of the day. Thanks!
-
My wife Jessica and I will probably have to
depart at the conclusion of the wheeling, as we'll be leaving our 2 year old with my parents in Hemet.
^^stay five or sx nights^^
Nilda and I might join you guys for the day trip only, I will keep you posted , thanks. RBduffer :P

Excuse me Mr. BOD...but please TRY to post outside of others thread replies...posting your thoughts/comments directly into someone else's reply is just plain pushy...and so BOD of you. ;D :D ;D :D
(It really just shows how technically savvy you are...how did you ever pass that HAM thingy???)
-
Sorry for the late reply but if its still on the table jamie and I could camp out a night
-
So I'm out. The X isn't any closer to being done and sure won't be ready for this run. Maybe next run

RBduffer - if Nilda's eggrolls are the main course each day, I'll make that 5 or 6 days thing happen! :)
-
Sorry to hear that Deadpilot...maybe next time!
-
Updated the original message with some new information for everyone!
-
Really looking forward to this day. How come RBduffer is still just a MAYBE?!? I thought you were bringing the eggrolls? :)
On a serious note though, the wife and I will only be able to run the day and won't be able to stay at camp. :-\
-
Do to unforeseen idiots on the 91 we may not be able to go, pending the X being in the body shop... If the X is out in time we should have new doors, fenders and possible quarter panels to scratch up. I will keep you updated
-
Sorry to hear that Nick...are you and Jamie alright? What happened?
-
Thank you we are fine, some guy the other night decided that the spot in my lane was much more appealing to him than his lane, so he forced me out of the lane, at the same time a lady in an armada wanted to pass, so we were sandwiched for a little but only took some odd looking body damage
-
Sorry to hear about the damage but glad you two are fine! Scary times! Keep me posted about the run...new paint needs pinstripes!
-
put me down for a maybe, gotta see my schedule. maybe camping as well
-
Thank you! We are glad we had the X and not a car or it would be different, and the thought about the paint did cross my mind haha
-
Too bad there's no camping.
Nia and I would go if we could camp, and not by ourselves. Wheeling all day and then driving home is too tough on us old folks.
Have fun guys.
Mark

I believe a few people are going to camp at the toolbox springs/thomas mountain campground at the end of the day. I'm still trying to talk the wife into it also.
Here's another question Motorpig77 - do we need a forest adventure pass for this run? I thought you need one to be parked pretty much anywhere in the forest?
-
Joe, great question...and the legal answer is yes if we're leaving the vehicles unattended...now I can tell you in the last few years of wheelin' / camping up there, I've never been ask for mine even though I have it in the glove box. I need to renew mine this month and the last gas station before we hit the trials does sell them for anyone in need of grabbing one.
-
Finally got the X in the shop, but its looking very unlikely that it will be ready. If by some miracle its out of the shop in time I will let you know.
-
Good luck...if not this one, there will be others!
-
I need to grab a pass, as mine expired many moons ago. I'll try to grab one before the trip, otherwise that gas station stop sounds in order. Wouldn't want to ruin the day by getting asked for one and not having it. :-[ I work about a block from the Cleveland Forest Headquarters office. I think they sell them in there, I'll stop in and find out.

Tried to reply earlier but it wouldn't post for some reason. We will defiantly missing this one sadly the X is in the shop till the 24th. On the upside I will have a set of new fenders, a door and new paint to pin stripe again!
-
Just went for a run up Bee last night in the RZRs and went up to the falls. The bottom of the canyon recently got graded so it's pretty soft and silty. Mostof the way up the from the canyon floor was rocky with a few areas where there were small wash outs. We didn't do the Hemet Jeep Trail so I can't comment on that, but some spots on Bee will be a bit bumpy.
-
I just went up bee canyon and it'll be a bit bumpy...but the rest of the trails are in good shape! Looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday! I'm going to take camping off the table on this run, my old labrador has been hurting lately and I would rather not have to take him so a good day of trail runs it is!
-
i wont be able to make this, i need to get a few things done this weekend, but i will be going to the mod day danny is hosting.
-
No worries Jordan...good luck on getting stuff done. When is the mod day?
-
18th

Sorry for the last minute flake out, but our son caught a stomach bug and has been throwing up all night. Looks like he won't be able to stay with "nana" tomorrow and we won't be able to make the trip after all. Total bummer, we were really looking forward to it. I guess we'll have to get the next one. Clint - I'll send you a text as well, since it's last minute.
-
Have fun guys!
-
Thanks Steve, good luck on the ham radio install! Hopefully we can meet up on the next one!
-
well wasnt quite the turn out i had hoped for, but Tom, Luana and my family had a blast taking the trails around here. It was a great day for it, nice views and some good weather! Hey that looks fun. How is Tom feeling nowadays with his corrective surgery done?
-
Hey Terry, he was doing good...showing off the scar and everything! hopefully they'll pop on here and give you a personal update!
-
Glad you guys had a good time!
Definitely on the next one. As long as it's not TOO crazy
-
Sure had a great time, Tom was a little sore that evening but I told him we need to get out more now. In fact on the way home on 243 a doe ran across the road in front of me around Silent Valley.
But today, we'll lets just say some B decided she was better than everyone on San Tim at RR crossing trying to pass on the dirt shoulder as the line was starting to move after a long train in a Civic. As she tried to cut us off she took out my right front quarter panel, then wanted to leave as she was late for a job interview. I called the police to straighten it out. Now my X has to go to the shop >:(
