After my trip to Oregon I've decided fishing is something i want to take up again. So I was wondering what is the more popular set up for our Southern California fishing spots.
I was thinking of getting a 7ft bailcasting rod or a fly rod but I thought i should see what SCCX members use and like.

Where and how do you plan to fish? So Cal reservoirs, Sierra streams, the Colorado, the Pacific? From a boat, shore, float tube, dock or pier? If it's all of the above or you don't know than just get a 6' ugly stick and a spinner. Don't spend a bunch of money until you know you're going to spend time using the gear.

Well im guessing from looking around my area on google maps mostly lakes but if i go back to oregon or up north to camp a fly rod would be fun ocean would be very rare since i am a good 1-2 hrs away depending on the beach
also i dont have a boat otherwise i would just get a spear gun and dive for large tuna ;D

If you're just going to be fishing in reservoirs/ lakes from the shore I would go with a 7' rod and a spinning reel.

For me it depends on where i am fishing and what for on creeks and rivers i typically use a 5' or 5'6" lakes i go to a 6' to 7' action of rod depends on what i am fishing for but i use mostly shakespear love the ugly stik line of rods
