Before our last run, I went to a local shell gas station to fill up. I heard a weird sound and pulled over to find a shiner in my mud terrains. It turned out to be a bolt which someone cut down than put through a grinder to give it a needle point which went through the fat part of my tire. I of course have a new spare but the tread is thicker and I had the hole plugged in the old tire.
My big question is it safe to air down now or should I replace my tires which are getting low but have a few thousand miles left on them?
-
sturndog what are you doing up so late?
BTW that sucks someone did that . Must be a jeep or toyota lover.
I have a couple of plugs in my tires and I air them down with no problems yet and all 3 plugs are in the grooves in the thinner part of the tire.
-
John what trail was that on?
I can't imagine someone doing that.

Was Dan in the area at the time?

I would respond to this accusation but I'm busy grinding points on bolts, er, I mean doing yard work. Yeah, that's it, yard work.

should be good with a plug. If too terribly concerned that a fellow club member who will remain nameless is grinding more bolts for you. Then you could put a tube in there or even the straun bead lock and call it good. it is a judgment call. I would run it since they cost so damm much. I mean you have a spare. On a run there is not shoratge of jacks or even other spares for that matter. I am gen 1 so I might lend the jack is all I can do unless you like to do donuts with smaller tires

Sorry about the nail that was meant for Mitch
You should be good to go...if the patch wasn't going to be safe they wouldn't have patched it...
If you worried about running it use your spare as your tire and the one with the plug as a the new spare.

;D Dan would have painted it yellow, and Mitch would have used a modified baseball glove with razors (part of his BIGFOOT fetish) so I know it was not them.
-
YOU COULD ALSO TAKE IT TO A TIRE SHOP AND HAVE THEM REPAIR IT WITH A PATCH. i'VE DONE IT BEFORE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS... (WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY CAPS LOCK BUTTON?)

Sorry to hear that happened John - maybe they did it because this was on your spare ???

BTW what you should do is make the plugged tire your spare. Then buy 3 new tires to go with your old spare (now on the truck)

They may have been mad convenience/gas station attendant - I bought a slurpie
and found one of the doors locked - he said it was a precaution against theft. There was no one else in the store and I just bought gas with a debit card..like they could not track me. Normally I would have blown up - but some people are so lost and stupid and I just decide to vote with my feet and wallet and not solicit them anymore. No doubt this person was related to the moron who would not let you use the bathroom............... :o

OH, just to add - I always get the 'tire insurance' (available from Discount Tires) whenever Ive bought tires. For 12-15 dollars a tire its a 100% replacement - no questions asked for ANY tire damage. 12-15$ per tire is a cheap investment for $150-200 tires considering what we subject our tires to. Just a thought

Insurance is like $32 a tire from America's Tires - they've already bought me one new tire.

Hey! an unsolicited testimonial! The best kind. SO go get the insurance

Bobby's idea is the best....
5 new tires + 1 insurance = BRILLIANT!
