Depending on when in June I might be able to go.  What are the requirements for this trail?  Isn't this one of the no joke ones?  Haven't done this one yet.

Not trying to gang up on you Lupin, but you might want to get with Steevo on rig requirements. I have done this trail and I think your rig will definitely struggle.

Post by: LupinOne on May 04, 2014, 08:35:01 PM
No worries.  I get my shrocks probably this coming week and I'm also eying some 35's to play with as well.  My rig will get there soon enough. :)
Title: Re:
Post by: SteeevO on May 04, 2014, 09:00:01 PM
If you have 35s a locker and willing to winch if needed then we should be able to get you through. Ideally locker fr and rr  are desired. Do not show up without sliders. Body damage possible in a few spots if you're not paying attention.

I have full plate underneath and sliders, rear lockers (2010 Off-road standard), will have front and rear shrocks with 12K pound wench with synthetic line.  Still don't know my work schedule that far out but we'll see what happens. :)

Post by: SteeevO on May 04, 2014, 09:31:36 PM
It will likely be a rough day with one locker. Driving experience and spotting is important as well. With a group of 5 or so rigs we should be OK.

If you have doubts, please see the 24 hour run thread on the new x.

can I use this as a shakedown for my new front and rear 4:56's and ARB lockers? with brand SPANKING new Goodyear wrangler MT's 35's with kevlar before the Rubicon trail run?

can I use the time on the trail to talk you into joining me on the Rubicon run?

Title: Re:

Yes & yes. However I would prefer that you get some easy trail time in prior to this just just to break in the gears.

Me on John Bull. Ended up need to winch. Only took about 6" of winch for the front to get traction and get up.
In my defense......This is where most people have trouble.

I was asking on Facebook for it too.. Now I can't find it.. And I think the cameras got put away once the sun went down and the temps dropped below 25. This adventure may have been lost in digital media land and may now only be a campfire story.

In another note, I just realized field day is that weekend on the ham radio. I think i right camp overnight somewhere and play radio too.

I did John Bull with Jason wolfman x back in 2006 with a stock 2005 off road with sliders no winch no getting stuck! It was a blast but nail biting! The rock garden was beyaaaatch!

Sounds like fun!

I think I would make it as it is now except I could use better tires than the BFG Rugged Trails I have on there now.  I'll just wait till they're worn down before I put some 315s on..

I think I'm down for this run. Did this a few months ago with a bunch of jeep guys. Got a Frontier and an X w/titan swap, 33's and rear locker up through it unscathed with some careful spotting an some rock stacking. There were definitely spots where if the wheels slip, you could get into trouble. I'd love to try it out with the front locker now. I could definitely have used the front locker on Holcomb Creek, I found that a tougher trail although it could have because it was a bit snowy and muddy when I did it.

This is from John Bull:

Hey Nick,

Camping at Heartbar campground down the 38 from BB Friday and Saturday nights.   There are a lot of campspots still available for that weekend if you are interested.
Title: Re: John Bull in June?
Post by: npgtech on June 01, 2014, 08:23:11 PM
I've camped mainly at Crab Flats, but only because I haven't really explored the BB area.  I like to camp near a creek/stream/body of water.  Crab Flats really doesn't have that by it.  If I go, it might be only me since it's my son's B-day weekend, but I got the pass from Shi to go.  I'm hesitant on saying I'm 100% in only because he's having a sleep over, and I don't want Shi to get overwhelmed with children. I will camp though if I do go.

It was a pretty epic run.  Definitely tested my will/skill/truck with the obstacles.  I think I leveled up my wheelin' skills this weekend.  Great trail, would actually do it again too!!!

Great wheeling with a great crew, thanks for the spots, and the campfire stories!

Yes it truly was epic.  Let's do it again.  I really admire all of your wheeling skills and am convinced we as a group could do about anything.

Great job everyone.   I particularly loved Steevo's demonstration of "If I were a little pathfinder on 31" tires THIS is the line I would have taken through this rock garden"   ;D ;D ;D ;D
