Title: My weedend (I might need a little help)
Post by: strikedistance on February 22, 2009, 05:18:22 PM
Well it started off with my friends custom dash kit coming in so i could install his new head unit that I(and a bunch of friends) got him for his birthday. Well it took forever but i finally did it with some help from Mitch, Matt and his nieghbor. It works fine and sounds great but the only problem is his dash lights wont come on and the clock wont save...? I guess i have the battery wires backwards and something wrong with the dimmer wire.
It looks great and i think i did an ok job for my first one. Just need to rewire it.

Well my CB Radio came in the mail on Saturday while i was out. Its a Cobra 18 WX ST II. It looks really nice and i got a great deal on it. I am going to install it in the dash with a single din Pioneer like my friends on top. This is the only CB i could find with the exact dimensions as a single din deck.

The CD player is going to have built in Bluetooth, and Ipod cable and a new Steering wheel mount b/c i was told that the one on the X wont work with aftermarket decks. I cant wait for it to come out.

And on Saturday i was out in Cabazon with another group of mine looking for reptiles. It turned out really well and we found a lot.

And then we swung through Borrego which was a lot of fun but we didnt get there until 8pm so we couldn't make it on the run. Sorry maybe next time but we did do Calcite Mine road which has gotten worse but is a lot of fun!! :)

Yeah, sounds like you've got the battery wire hooked to the accessory connection and you blew the dash fuse.

So i flip the battery wires but what do i do about the fuse? and what do you think about the CB? Im looking for a whip antenna. Are the four foot Cobra or Firestik any good? Also and i was looking are the magnetic antennas the only one that connect to the back of the CB?

My son Zoe has a corn snake like that; I think he's had it for 6 years. 'Annika' he calls her.

I like the K40 magnetic mounts. The center of the roof somewhere in the middle of the rack will give you the best signal. Short of that cutting a hole above the middle interior roof light is the best ... I've never liked cutting holes in the roof. For my CB antenna I have it on the CB tab on my rear bumper with a four foot top-loaded Firestik.

I bought a no ground firestick and mounted it to my stock roof rack using a fourtreks mount.

Yeah I'm not cutting through the roof. I just want to mount a whip to a tire carrier/rear bumper. Also i did read that post but it has nothing to do with antennas.

Paul-Do you think what i mentioned with fix the wiring? Also what do i do about the fuse?  Oh and does your whip antenna plug into the rear of the CB? I did notice when i talked to you on the Joshua Tree run the when you would talk there was a loud whine in the background.

OZ- Thats really cool.

Get yourself a pen lite they go for a frew bucks you might even find one at a $1.00 store
you ground clip and you use the pen to check or test the wire (it lites up if hot).

Sorry - standard operating procedure is to double check your wiring and then drop another fuse in and see if it blows up. Looks like a battery circuit is popped as that's what holds the clock's memory after you pull the key. The dash lights are a key controlled circuit. Make sure that if your radio has a power antenna lead (blue sometimes) make sure that it's protected with some electrical tape.
