So, I got rear ended by an F350 on the way home from work tonight.
I was at a full stop waiting my turn to get off at an offramp.
He hit me doing somewhere in the neighborhood of 50mph
Like they say, a mile a way from home is where all the trouble happens.
Blows.

Surprisingly, the Hefty bumper opened an closed normally. Plus 1 for the Hefty I guess. We'll see tomorrow in the daylight if my frame is tweaked
-
Damn Steve...that SUCKS.
-
Yeah, big time. So much for my Mojave Road trip that I've been looking forward to for 6 months. Suppose to leave next Friday. Fword
-
Holy crap, I hope your okay! That Hefty probably kept you out of the ER. That was a big ass truck moving fast.
-
Sorry about the truck. Glad you're ok.
However, make sure you are truly ok before you sign off on anything medical. You never know what residuals you may have after being rear ended.
-
Thanks guys.
My neck and upper back are starting to get a little tight. I'll keep that advice in mind.
-
Damn Steve...that SUCKS.
PS I might need a new sticker.
-
That blows man. Glad u are ok. I am interested in seeing what the frame looks like. If you get a chance to snap some pictures.
-
I can't imagine what would have happened without the bumper and tire carrier! Keep an I on your back for the next week or so. Sorry bout your trip, the whole thing sucks.
-
PS I might need a new sticker.
Yes...and as far as Mojave goes, I think there is another trip planned in 2014...just sayin'. ;D
-
Damn Steve - Glad you are ok, sorry to see your X is bent up! What the hell was wrong with that idiot!!! He could not see a red Xterra in front of him! take care of yourself, and get the help you need. :'(
-
Glad you're safe!
-
Jeebus man!!! Glad you're ok!!! Hope he has good insurance!!

***Update***
So you may be wondering. *What happens to a Hefty Fabworks rear bumper with tire and jerry can holders when it is hit by a Ford F350 work truck traveling approximately 40-50mph? *(according to the guy that hit me of course)
Your bumper mounting plates will crease. like a few degrees. Uniformly I might add

I am truly grateful that I installed that bumper. After speaking with friends and thinking about it quite a bit, I may have been in a lot more pain if the other driver had hit me without it.
I have to thank Chris from Hefty. The night I posted this thread he responded saying let him know if there's anything they can do. It was obvious to the both of us, all though not yet apparent to the insurance company, that a new bumper would need to be built. Chris told me in PMs that he had his guys already starting a new bumper for me. That's awesome! Additionally, he has fielded numerous phone calls from my insurance company as they wrapped their brain around obtaining a replacement aftermarket rear bumper for a Nissan Xterra. He really stands by his customers.
So, in the mean time, the repair shop will replace my lift gate and rear window. Those were the only two pieces of the truck damaged in the accident. I am bringing them my stock rear bumper to install in the mean time. Once the new Hefty bumper has been completed and shipped, I should receive a phone call to have it installed at the repair shop.
Regarding the Xterra's frame. From what I've been told by the repair shop, everything is straight. Which is amazing.
Here are some daytime photos of before I took it to the insurance center.

And for reference, those pool toys are shop towels hanging from bungee cords. It's a great "mod" Everyone should try it!

As far as myself is concerned, I have been to the doctor and have been thoroughly evaluated. Nothing seems out of place, but I am still a bit sore. Turning my head to full left or right lock is a bit tender. Feels somewhat like what being really sore after a workout feels like accept it's taking longer to go away. I have a follow up in a week and a massage scheduled for Tuesday. One thing I've taken away from the experience is that I'm not as bouncy as I was as a teen. :bounce:
Thanks for all of the well wishes
Steve
PS (/edit) Here are some photos of when I dropped it off at the insurance center.

Glad your ok. Did you happen to see the exact time he hit you? If he was on his cell phone, he would automatically be at fault.
-
Glad you are ok Steve. We know the X is. It's tough ;D Again YOU is the operative word here. Make absolutely sure of yourself, things like this can take time to manifest itself. The soreness can mask underlying issues.
-
Excellent post Steve...glad to hear that Chris is taking care of you.
He takes a lot of unnecessary criticism for his bumpers...so glad to hear that he is maintaining the relationship and standing by the product.
Take it easy with your back and neck...sounds like some healing time is in order and then hopefully back to normal. Shoot me your address in a PM and I'll go through my couch cushions and dig out a new sticker for your rig.
Get well soon. :-*
