Title: Trail on the backside of fallbrook area.
Post by: Deadpilot on October 12, 2013, 08:36:38 AM
So I think I remember hearing about some kinda trail that leaves fallbrook and goes to who knows where (dont remember that part)  I know there was gates closed last time we tried doing that but would anyone be up for trying to do that run before the rain really starts coming in and makes it closed most of the time.

Update.

Meet place Albertsons parking lot off mission and ammunition road.
Date and time nov 3rd at 0900

Let's pick a day!  Lava and I know the 'secret' trail, and it let's you out at a biker beer bar.
We go by a locked off area with some fun climes, we'll see if it's open or continue to Indian Truck Trail where Hevak found some fun.

That's the one we took after duffman's mod day right? The southern main divide, dumps you right out on the ortega highway and then you can continue onto the north main divide if you want?

Lets try for Nov 3rd. Since AZ Ted may be able to join us since its shouldn't be too hard if he's able to bring his x and of not im sure there will be an open seat for him.
How does that sound

You guys should check out the Palomar Truck Trail...runs west up the back side of Palomar Mountain.  Trail head starts off of Highway 79 near the Naval Warfare Survival Training Area.

Views of the observatory, a cool stone house, lots of signs warning of military training (saw a cool Blackhawk buzzing at about 200' off the deck last time), and of course over 40 geocaches along the route (if you are so inclined).

This is a very 2WD do-able run with lots of dust, trees, and rocks.  A great day trip for all of you to check out.

Palomar divide is even better when you start off with high point truck trail off the 79 just after the 371 turn off. As far as Fallbrook I don't know of many trails around there besides some roads that take you to the back side of camp Pendleton up by case springs. Nothing glamorous that I've found yet(not saying there isnt). Any time off the pavement I can get is a good time. Let's go explore!

Done! I'm in. Last time we met at the Albertson's parking lot, across from a shell gas station on S.mission and Amunition rd.
Some guys can poop out after stopping at Hell's Kitchen(on Ortega Hwy), while others can continue up the north divide toward Santiago peak and beyond. :o

Hence the term 'secret trail'.  It's 2/3s dirt and 1/3 paved.  No airing down needed until we cross Ortega Hwy.
We will turn off of De Luz just past the gourd farm.

I'm up for exploring the N. Devide road as well.

Yeah I can lead if you want.  Once we cross to the north divide, I would like to try some new-to-me trails that Hevak blazed awhile back.
Aram, I think we should do either Palomar trail or Bee canyon up to Idyllwild  when you're back in town.

How would a stock 2013 Titan Pro4X do on this trail?  I just bought one, and that is what I will be bringing this trip (no trailer to pull the X, yet).
Title: Re:

Im sure your titan Pro4x would do just fine. The only thing is ya may get some custom pin striping on your new truck lol. If im wrong im sure someone will say something. Too bad no trailer yet but it still would be cool to hit the trails

Steve and Ted, you guys will have no problem!  Mostly fire road.
Adio, We will probably make it to Hell's Kitchen around noon.  It's 1/2 mile west of the Divide on Ortega Hwy.
Woody, you got me there.  I was planing to go until the TruckHaven run came up.  It's still too hot to go all the way to Nevada.  And that's the best excuse I can come up with.  The time and place for this run is somewhere earlier in the thread.  It's Nov.3, 9am, at Albertson's on S. Mission and Ammunition.  Hope to see ya there 8)

I am in for this run, November 3rd is post budget presentation.

Alex and I will grind the homework Friday night, and bring any readables for the trail.

Daphne will bring the Jeep AND stickers....just in case Danny needs to be strapped.  Stickers and strapping....sounds like a party.

I'll check the forum for updates...thanks all.

Ted...your new Titan Pro4X (nice shameless plug on having a better rig than ALL of us..) will do just fine.  Might be a little tight on some of the hairpin turns along the way, but the trail surface is pavement to fireroad to rocky road to ruts.  Nothing major...we ran it in 2WD 90% of the time, and 4HI for the other 10%.

What time do you thnik we will be heading to the trail?  I'm still planning on coming but my son has a race at 7:15 in Tustin.  He tells me he can do the 10K in 45 minutes, so my plan is to push him into the truck as soon as he passes the finish line then head down. I should be able to get there in under an hour the way I drive.  So if I'm not there exactly at 9:00 know I will be there shortly.

Great run.  Didn't even end up going to Santiago Peak.  We got sidetracked at Wildomar OHV area.  According to Duffman, he has never seen the gate open and one does not simply pass up an opportunity to explore formerly restricted areas!

I only got one shot.
