Surely there are quite a few others here who use their X as a daily driver and then hit the trials now and then. My stock tires are reaching the end of their tread and before I hit a trail again I want to get some actual all-terrain tires.
What are other socal X drivers using for A/T tires? I'm looking currently at BFG KO A/T's in stock size. Thoughts?

I think that would be an excellent choice for a DD that does a little off-roading and some snow.

Back when I had a 2005 X, I had the BFG All Terrains, 265/75/16, and was great as a daily driver, and on the trails. No lift required, and still had those tires after I did a spacer/shackle lift. Can't go wrong with BFG's. Now my 2010 X is a whole different story.
My wife, shi819, has an '08 with Toyo Open Country AT in 265/75/16, and is her daily driver. They seem to hold up pretty well on the trails as well. Hopefully she'll chime in with some info for you.

I've never owned the BFGs, but I bought a set of Hankook Dynapro ATm's based on these comparisons here:

I've been extremely happy with these both off and on the road. And they retail for a lot cheaper than the BFGs (I paid $175 but they usually retail around $210).
The Toyo's are a good option too based on that article.
I got a set of 5 almost new bfg rugged trails for cheap if anyone is interested.

BFG A/T's are great...I have also heard and seen great things with respect to the Wild Peak's sold by Discount Tire...a Falken product.

That's what everyone says. I'm curious as to why they came out far behind in those tests. Does anyone know the guys involved in that shoot-out? They tested out all over the Big Bear trails, and one of the test rigs was a stock 2005 Offroad X. They got a lot of videos of their tests and findings. In any case, it gave me a good excuse to buy a cheaper tire and not feel like I'd compromised for a buck.

I've used BFG's for 15 years on 3 different vehicles, they are great. This go around cost was the issue for me so i got the Nitto Terragrappler and I couldn't be happier. Great ride on and off road.

The Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac is a great daily driver choice that falls between the AT and the more aggressive MTR. You never have to wonder whether you will have enough traction on the trail.

I have the Falkens and ran the BFG's before that. For the price/performance factor, I feel the Wild Peaks are it hands down. They self clean better, not that we get a lot of mudding in here in Cali, but in the sticky Texas mud they out performed the BFG's big time. I did Cleghorn with them and did every hard section that my suspension would handle, and then some with the guys here and they were awesome. Did Cleghorn once before I hooked up with the club and did mostly stupid stuff and came out quite impressed. That was loaded down to the brink with camping gear in the back, on top and a family of five with two dogs. Tire life has been pretty good too. Road noise is almost non existent, especially compared to the BFG's. I never noticed how noisy the BFG's were until I got the Falkens. Got them over a year ago, at 25K and still at 45-50%. Better mileage than my BFG's. Personally, I'll never fork the price for the BFG's as long as the Wild Peaks are in production. On top of that I got the full protection plan from America's Tires, so I get free rotation/balance every 5K and if "ANYTHING" happens to the tires outside of wear it get's replaced. Even if it happens off road.
Buddy of mine put four nails through his sidewall when I had to swerve into the shoulder and they replaced it not questions asked. Well, other than the obligatory "how in the hell did you manage to do that?!?"
Long post. Sorry. Save the dough, and don't spend on the BFG's. Good tires. Yes. But way overpriced. Heavy as sin too.
