Title: Welding Classes, need information
Post by: BikersCage on February 23, 2013, 05:16:45 PM
So I know a lot of smaller towns that have highschools do adult education classes.  I want to learn to MIG weld and was wondering if anyone knew of any locations in San Diego to do this.  I don't need it for a job so I just want to learn safety and the basics to get me started.  No certificates required.

I know grosmont district has adult Ed out in east county, I took a welding/machining class out there just for fun.  I don't know if San Diego district has the same.

Thinking now, look at the community colleges, they handle the adult education

Does the county/cities in the area offer Regional Occupational Training (ROP) in the areas you are looking into? I know Riverside County offered it on various HS campuses which stretched all over the county: Riverside, MoVal, etc...  You could call your areas district office/s. They should be able to point you in the right direction if they offer them.

Welding is easy....Super easy. Getting good at it is tough. You can learn the basics in one afternoon with a knowledgable person. The rest is practice practice practice. There are great videos on YouTube like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVyYvcEqkcQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
These will teach you basics to build on. Get yourself a good welder and a bunch of scrap steel and get crack'n

Toro are you volunteering yourself a couple of nights!?  Really I can learn anything fast i just want to make sure I am being safe and have the basics down.

After that I have plenty of time on the weekends and evenings to practice.

I eventually wanted to do something like possibly making my own sliders and making my own inside rack etc...

You guys are killing me. You can all come over and play with my welder as I sit and drink beer while throwing insults and empty bottles at you.

Wait wait... We will provide beer as long as the speech is not slurred!  At least until we know we are safe. Then you are free to drink all you want... Now to set up a date......
