Updated 2-13-2013
One month into owning my XTerra (purchased 2 Jan 2013) my list for near-term mods is finally getting short. I'm still chasing leaks in the on board air system, but it is finally able to hold solid pressure for several hours. The truck is coming together nicely, and running better than ever! I changed all the driveline fluids today- it was very easy and allowed me to inspect the undercarriage a bit more. One advantage of living in the desert: almost zero corrosion, despite having an 8 year old truck. Got my first big off-road expedition planned for next weekend. Can't wait, but might try some milder stuff close to home this weekend to get a feel for the new-to-me X. UPDATED PICTURES TO FOLLOW!
PLANNED FIXES/MODS:
-Add front tow hooks
-Add HAM radio (Yaesu FT-7900R & Comet SBB-5 antenna kit)
EVENTUALLY:
-Skids
-Suspension Lift w/ new UCAs.

UPDATE 2/13/2013:
1.) Timing chain/tensioners/guide boots, water pump, spark plugs, and all driveline fluids and coolant replaced. Runs like new!
2.) BRUSH GUARD REMOVED. Found a taker in So-Cal, so it's going away possibly as early as tomorrow.
3.) Aux tranny cooler installed per the "How To" on this forum. Works great, no leaks!
4.) Baja Jerry Can roof rack installed, so I can carry my Jerry Cans on the trail now :)
5.) Fixed some leaks in the on board air system. It's still bleeding down over time, but I can live with it at this point- it holds pressure for several hours, which is good enough for a day of wheeling and re-airing my tires. The quick-disconnect for the air tank may be the culprit, in which case I will just live with the leaks.
UPDATE 2/18/2013
So, today I moved my CB antenna. The previous owner had the antenna mount hose clamped to the roof rack crossbar. With a 4' firestik antenna, it put the antenna ridiculously high and I was concerned about the likelihood of it catching on branches and low wires, so I decided to move the mount to the driver's side tail light guard.
Initially, I tried hose clamps, but they couldn't hold the mount securely:

So I took the guard off and drilled holes, and bolted the mount onto the light guard:

I reinstalled the light guard, moved the coax down the outside of the weatherstripping on the hatch, and presto!

BTW, the antenna is grounded to the body via a short wire to a grounding screw I installed. The tail light guard uses the factory housing screws, which are into plastic brackets, so it was no good self-grounding via the mount.
And, since I was in a hole drilling mood today, I added a fire extinguisher in the cargo area:

Next on the list is my HAM radio install! ;D
Expect further updates along with more recent pictures of the rig post-brushguard removal with the new equipment installed.

Welcome!! Looking forward to meeting you out on a run.

Nice pics and poach. ;)

Is it really poaching if I wrote the material? ::)

Welcome! Good job on the truck in such a short time.
I laughed at this...
-Brush Guard deleted
-Bedlined front grille to erase cosmetic damage from brush guard
RBduffer/Randy went down kicking before he finally removed his brush guard for good. I think he has finally come to peace at not seeing it on his X, although I bet he secretly misses it.

LOL! Maybe he meant pooch, although I looked in all the windows in the pictures and didn't see one.
Got my first big off-road expedition planned for next weekend. Can't wait, but might try some milder stuff close to home this weekend to get a feel for the new-to-me X.
Where are you heading to? I'm a Gen 1 so my apologies if you already posted your plans on TNX.

Welcome..
...did you do your timming chain, or did you have it done?

Oops, I haven't logged in here in a couple of weeks! Sorry fellas.
I did not post my plans online- it was a trip I planned with some guys from work, not that y'all weren't invited, I honestly just didn't find the time to sign in and post plans. We went up Goler Wash, through Mengel Pass to Striped Butte in Death Valley national park and stayed at the nearby Geologist's cabin. It was a great trip, and I got the dented rocker panel to prove it! ;D
As for the timing chain, I had it done at a shop. I am going to do a lift myself soon though.
