Agreed Ray.

I don't think we will actually be working, as much as meeting the Ranger, driving the road and formulating a trail maintenance plan for the year.

Are we PM'ing w/ the date we prefer or just posting as a reply?

Either way Christiaan.

I don't have a preference between the 2 dates; either works for me, I just have a tournament on the 9th.

Hoping my rig is closer to 100% by then (still have Danny's ranchos on my front end....damn Bilsteins)

So I was just thinking, the tour by Greg probably won't take more than an hour if that?  Since it is a bit of a drive for us to get there and we won't be doing any actual trail maintenance, maybe we can check out Pioneertown afterwards or hit a trail?  Just a thought.  It may be one of those things where we play it by ear.

Depending on weather conditions and amount of snow on the ground.  Heartbreak Ridge/Pontiac Sluice is in the neighborhood.  And I'm sure Ghostx would know where others are too.

Well guys, I suppose we can wait for a date in March...but I'd personally rather not wait.  I don't think this will be a big "work" party, but just not sure yet.

We have always run the SCCX Rattlesnake Canyon Run the last week in February, and the temps and weather are always cold/windy/snowy.

Worst case scenario, I can head up and meet with Ranger Greg and take care of the preliminary Trail Maintenance plan and then communicate it back to everyone for implementation later when it warms up.

Thanks again for all of your interest.

Haha, February 16th will roll around and we'll be saying "Damn (hide the child boards), what great weather we're having today. Wish I was in Big Bear."  Or not

I'm back. :) Leaving the child board behind (in 2012)... We'd prefer the 16th. But, we aren't too picky either way. Especially since we've been MIA. Is the 2nd game day wknd?

Good point Michelle, SuperBowl weekend is probably best to avoid.  It might be you, myself, Marshann, and Terry (not a bad crew??)  ;D

So, with that said, I am going to make the call right here in this post:

Adopt A Trail Maintenance Plan Meeting is set for Saturday, February 16th!

The meet time will be confirmed in the next week, after I speak with Ranger Greg Hoffman.  My vision of this is a day trip, and not so much of a work party the first time.  According to Greg, we will tour the Burns Canyon/2N02 Trail and develop a plan of maintenance for the year with respect to SCCX.  From there, we would set up work party weekends to meet the goal of 100 hours of combined trail maintenance.  I am pretty sure the vision is not of a work crew slogging in the cold wind and snow, cleaning out culverts and moving rocks.  ;D

As always, please PM me with any questions you may have.

Thanks for the support of this great project which helps SCCX to give back to the off road community.

John/GhostX

If I can follow you guys in my stock 4x4, count me in! May have the 2" installed by then but can't be positive - basically booked every weekend before hand so probably won't have time.

I'll bring my shovel just in case.  8)

This will be a very green run.  No lift, sliders, skids needed.  Trail 2N02 is for the most part, a roughly graded fire road that goes from Pioneertown near Yucca Valley all the way west to the Baldwin Lake area of Big Bear.

You'll be fine Joey.  :)

Understatement. Company "restructuring" again. Stressing to say the least. Need to get out. Already marked the calendar. This weekend need to buy chains in the event it snows. Looked out office windows today toward Big Bear mountain. A silvery blue with marbled clouds. Looked like planet earth from above temporarily until rain moved in. Lol yeah been cooped up too long.

Thanks Terry...my understanding is that this is for the purpose of developing a trail maintenance plan.  I don't believe we will actually be working this time, but driving the trail and creating the plan for 2013.

Greg also mentioned that he would show us where the maintenance area was, and provide us with the proper access codes for the tool shed/equipment area.

I have an email out to Greg right now asking for clarification on this, and as soon as I hear back will post up.

Thanks.

Count me in.  Tom and I have been going through Pioneer Town up to Burns Canyon.  Been nice til you get to Big Bear and hit the snow and ice.

Thanks Luann, having you and Tom familiar with the trail will help you/us with all of this.

Looks like no work.  My wife and i were wondering if this whole thing would be kid friendly then and if we need the full getup.  Basic Snow and ice is fine, but do i need the full recovery/cb/etc or are we good with stock for this?

Well i shouldnt be stock im getting my full suspension on the weekend before, but have basic AT tires still.

BC...still working out the details.  Family friendly for sure, just be aware that we could be on the trail/discussing maintenance/as a group for a few hours.

As soon as I get the specific details, I will let everyone know what to expect...timing, lunch on the trail, scope of the maintenance plan, etc.

Maybe just take situation day by day?  Circumstances may change by end of week? Wishful thinking on my part. This " situation" the part in riverside...occurred just a couple of cross streets from where we live. Probably be safer to stay together as a group....than for individuals to go off individually? And, one has to wonder if the center of the situation is even still up there...

I'm not going to try to convince anyone to risk their safety if they feel at all uncomfortable attending.

Hopefully the coming week will bring more developments and a resolution to the fugitive situation.

If something comes up before the run that is an extreme safety concern, we will postpone and reschedule.  Watch this thread for updates, as well as your local news outlet.

I emailed Greg Hoffman (area ranger) about the day, and here is the email exchange:

All day. Some work.  Gloves.   They need cb radios or Hams.  Food and water.  Plenty to plan.  Thank you.

It looks like we will actually be conducting some maintenance on the trail!

Please bring a comfortable but sturdy pair of shoes/boots, wear jeans, and layer accordingly with current weather reports.  Bring a jacket and cap for sure, as well as usual preparations for a day on the trail.

Plenty of food and water, and a functioning CB or Ham radio will be necessary.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, side note for this run.

PLEASE BE ON TIME FOR THIS XCURSION/MEET TIME.

This will be the first impression with USFS Ranger Greg Hoffman, and I would encourage everyone to be at least 15 to 30 minutes early for the meet time of 9:00am.

Please leave plenty of time for the planning/mapping of this run.  Take some time to confirm routes, drive time, traffic, weather, packing, gas fill ups, etc.

I will actually be staying in the area Friday night and driving over from Lake Arrowhead.  I will be at the meet spot by 8:30.

PM me if you would like my cell phone number (if you don't have it already) so we can communicate via phone/text that evening or morning.

Looks like we will be safe in Big Bear this weekend.

I've been staying off the trails since we found out this guy was up here.  I've been on the scout for game trails, so I've spent the better part of the last couple of weekends on the trails before all this ish started.  I've had to race up the mountain twice to get my kids out of school cause of this brown O-ring.  (brown has nothing to do with his skin color, no pun intended).

I look forward to seeing everyone and learning about this Adopt A Trail program together.

Pretty cool, our Club is listed on the Adopt A Trail website already for supporting Trail 2N02...check it out when you have time.

WHO IS LEAVING FROM S. ORANGE COUNTY SATURDAY MORNING?

I'll probably leave around 6:30 to make sure I get there on time....wouldn't mind having a partner or two on the road to chat/follow/amaze with my BA driving skills....lol

what time would you all get to the S. Corona area? There's an exit in Riverside on 91E at Arlington. There's a new Baker's fast food rest right there catercorner from the exit. James and I could meet you there in the parking lot. We could be there just before you all showed up. And, a block up (on same side of hwy) is the on-ramp headed east. It would be an easy whiz off and whiz back on. Whadda ya think?

Everyone attending...if you need to reach me before Saturday, please PM me here and I will shoot you my cell phone number.

I will have my laptop all weekend with wifi, so I will try to catch any late posts today or early tomorrow morning with updates questions.

I am leaving work around 4pm to pick up Daphne and we will be heading out around 5-6pm.

Don't forget to layer, dress warm, bring a knit cap and gloves (both work and warm gloves), as well as plenty of food and water.  We will be having lunch on the trail during the day.

Very much looking forward to seeing everyone!

There will be a little surprise for all the volunteers who show up on this run.  ;D

See you in Big Bear!!!

A huge THANK YOU to all that showed up:

Terry, Doug, Shiloh & Taylor, Christiaan, Tom & Luann, David, James & Michelle, Ray & Ashley, and of course Daphne who helped drive the X down the mountain while I rode shotgun with Ranger Greg.

The tour of the ranger station and facilities that we now have access to as a Club participating in the AAT Program cannot be fully explained here.

Suffice to say, the Club has entered a new level of growth and opportunity.

More to come on future dates/events, as I have some homework in translating and developing the trail maintenance plan.  Sitting here in the hotel room in Lake Arrowhead, truthfully, my head is spinning a bit (and I only had two beers with pizza!!)

A great day for everyone, exceeding expectations all around.

Thank you again to all who participated, and looking forward to seeing who can make the meeting next Wednesday, February 20th.

John/GhostX
