Title: Geocaching in Big Bear for CANVAZ II
Post by: Ghost65 on October 12, 2012, 03:22:20 PM
Gear up and load up folks...on the Rattlesnake Canyon trail we will be exploring some cool geocaches.

Check out the CANVAZ II thread for more information on the caches we will be checking out.

Hint:  They will be a "miner" distraction.  ;D

Well, due to time constraints we were only able to grab one cache, Longhorn Springs.

And it probably wasn't the best representation of a great geocache find...it was in a field of cow dung.  "Okay kids, follow John through that field of pooh...oh, and when you get back to the car don't touch anything!"  Wet Ones and hand sanitizer to the rescue.

Sorry about that folks.  Next time we will geocache in a "pooh free" zone.

For those of your fortunate enough to attend the Gold Mountain run, you saw an excellent example of geocaching on the talus slope.

I still want to grab the one in a mine along Rattlesnake canyon.  It was placed in 2002 by and Xterra owner who was there with his Xterra club called SCCX.

If any of you missed John's Team SCCX pooh field cache write-up that he posted along with the 2N02 group SCCX banner pic on geocaching.com, here you go.  Longhorn Springs (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=74bd6afe-abc5-4db5-82fe-980a2c2191c8)

Team SCCX lives!! Our first team find in 8 years...wow! The Club ran Rattlesnake Canyon as a part of the annual CANVAZ II event, bringing Xterra enthusiasts from California, Nevada, and Arizona together for a weekend of wheeling and fun. We had a good group on RSC today, with 18 trucks and over 40 people. This was the only cache we logged today as we had to keep the group moving. Several children on this run, so hopefully the field of cow patties we had to traverse to get here wasn't too stinky!!! Good times...TFTC!!!

This is my busy season for work....July to December so the last couple of months I've been putting in the hours.  Feast or famine as they say.  I wanted to go to BB but didn't get home until late on Friday and needed a break.

I'll try to pop in here a little more often to delight everyone with my wit and charm.  ;D

Well, MaxPower is the only one that get his own place here so something must be up with that.  I think they call that a "kept" GF. ;D

It seems that all the posts that end up going down the odd, the different, the bizarre route end up in Max's Place.  Looks like this one may be headed that way as well.

Well, if anyone would know about posts "that end up going down the odd, the different, the bizarre route" it would be you Marshann. And before anyone gets upset, I do mean that will all appreciation and affection, and not in any sort of negative way whatsoever, since what I'm referring to has provided me and many others with countless hours of entertainment. Plus, if you ever need a paparazzi-type photographer, Marshann is really very good at it.

Why, thank you Frank.  Thank you very much. ;D  Hmm, I wonder if I would be allowed to post a sanitized version of the magnum opus of a trail report as told by a former SCCX member.  I mean, because we have child boards and all.  Maybe if this all goes to Max's Place....  Oh wait, on second thought, this is the only X site that I haven't gotten in too much trouble yet.  So yeah, maybe not.  In fact, this post will self-destruct any moment now.  :P

Well boys and girls (you know who you are) we have completely derailed this thread as well.
You know it's a sad state of affairs when Chris Haynes is the only one showing restraint!

Somehow I doubt a sanitized version would have the same entertainment value. Sometimes no other adjectives work.

That said . . . even the clean parts of it were truly brilliant:  "He might as well have used a couple of baby seals and a spotted owl as sand ladders while he was at it."  One of my all-time favorite quotes.

Is this in reference to the Soda Dry Lake incident on XOC?  That was an epic representation of off road prose.

This is true, but as history will show, this does not last long.

What you are about to read is a true story, although there may be a few twists in the wordage.  Mods, please delete or move this as you deem fit.  If my login doesn't work the next time I visit, I will understand. :'(  But this is part of SCCX's history and we can't keep hiding its skeletons in the closet. :-X :D

That has left me speechless.  I'll have to absorb it for a while.

Disclosure:  Okay, maybe it's not all true.  I certainly don't recall any peyote on that run. ;D  This was one of the many hilarious diatribes by one of SCCX's former members who eventually crossed over to the dark side and got a Land Cruiser.  A very entertaining, but not necessarily true, spoof that was inspired by a photo I took on Mojave Road of a stuck X in Soda Lake on the way to a memorial for Chris/CCX.  Here's a link to the photos.  Mojave Road CCX Memorial (http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/488318_J64HZV#!i=19926040&k=xF9nJsh)

This is certainly off topic and should be moved/deleted.  Just wanted to the explain the cryptic messages above.
