Title: An old trailer that is new to me
Post by: Deadpilot on June 26, 2012, 04:58:07 PM
So I picked up an old M101A2 Military trailer from a government liquidation website auction. After the biding ended and I got it registered as permanent trailer in CA i spent about 500 bucks not too bad I think. The only thing I am having to get it from the 24v system it ran on to the 12v system the X runs on is to change out the light bulbs to the 12v equal and then I am ordering the Receptacle that works with the military plugs and it should all work. And of course I had to pick up a pintle hitch setup. But it is great trailer and tows great on the highway and works great behind my X.
Heres some pics

That will make a sweet off road trailer Jason...let me know if you have access to more of these, I would be interested.

Throw a roof top tent on top of that, make a few mods and storage upgrades...good to go!

Nice.  Did they have more?  Do you have a link to the page?

Glad to see you got one of these.  I've been thinking about it too and thought it might be a little big.  I've been watching the gov auction site.  Did you pick it up in Barstow?  Did you do an inspection before bidding?

That's a great price.  Everywhere I have looked they have been twice that at least.  I'd like to know the website too if possible.  We will need to coordinate the SCCX bids so we aren't bidding against each other.

If you are going to make this into an off road camping trailer like John mentioned I'd love to follow the process through a mod page if possible.

John, thanks. Its gonna be used a dual purpose trailer I'll post up my idea in build thread for it.

I do have the link to it so everyone else can get theres
Its http://www.govliquidation.com you will have to register to bid and look up past auctions but its well worth it. Its for all over the country so if CA doesnt have anything then you may be willing to another state to pick up one.
Barstow has quite a few trailers not all have the hoops like mine does. But I'd recommend getting a M101A2 or M101A3 those are the newer ones and would best for the X. The M101A1 would work but you need to axle work to it since they were from the 60's and 70's.

I believe the A2 and A3 have surge brakes and the A3 is slightly larger.

Yea they both have surge brakes and the A3 is larger cause it meant to be hauled by a hmmwv. The A2 as smaller tires and the A3 runs the 37s the hmmwv runs
