Title: GROUP BUY - Skid Plates
Post by: HEVAK on June 25, 2012, 04:12:32 PM
I'm just putting out a feeler to see who's interested in going in on a group buy for a full set of skid plates for a Gen 2.

AOE4x4, the same guys that are sponsoring the Mod Day in July, will be building the skids from scratch.

I do not have a price yet. However, I can assure you it'll cost less than ordering from Shrockworks, Hefty, ect. Plus, you won't have to wait forever to get em.

Let me know  ;)

Ok guys, the final price for a set of skids (Engine, Transfer Case, Transmission and Gas Tank) is $710 without powder coating.

Powder Coating is $70 extra
Radiator Skid is $180 extra

They will be ready in about 2 weeks

So far, I have the following rigs confirmed:

HEVAK (PC) - Down payment made
sdcaKLR (PC) - Down payment made
panathrasher (PC) - Down payment made
xxSVxx - OUT
magnus718 (No PC) - Down payment made
LupinONE - Down payment pending

**Please let me know if you want in**

Please let me know if you want PC or not

I'm getting them from Alex at AEO.  Since I am not getting them powder coated, they are $450, $500 powder coated.

Ok guys, here's the pricing breakdown for a full set of AOE4x4 Gen 2 skid plates, with and without the radiator skid. The radiator skid is dependent on the bumper you're running.

Partial set ( Transmission, Gas Tank, Oil Pan, and Transfer Case) including Powder Coat = $700-$750

Full set ( All the above including Radiator Skid ) = $850-$900

These prices are NOT set in stone. Alex from AOE4x4 is trying to figure out ways to reduce these prices for us even more. They are already priced lower than than anything else I found on the Internet.

The lead time is 2 weeks from the time of the order. Everything else out there is at least an 8 week wait, if not longer.

PM me with questions.

Beyond amazing.  Such a great deal, especially considering there is NO SHIPPING and it's a shop that's very X friendly!!

Way to go Ray!!!

Agreed.

Everyone keep in mind that we are a niche market...not many Xterra's out there go this mod route.

Some numbers to keep in mind:

SCCX Members:  387

SCCX Members with more than 50 posts:  55

That is a pretty small market for parts like sliders and skid plates.

Let's be patient as AOE4x4 gets these off the ground.

The AOE skid plates are made from laser cut 3/16" steel plate with bends the right places to add even more strength.

I can't wait to get em on my rig.

These prices include powder coating. I don't think we need powder coating. Nothin that a few cans of Rustoleum can't handle.

So, I'm going to get a bare metal price as well. It'll save us a few more bucks  ;D

PM send, I'll be interested to join a group buy.

Out of interest, what about a diff skid...like this: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=54991
Could that be added to the line-up?

Powder coat please! After trying to help Danny with his skid install at the mod day, I don't think I will attempt to try install alone without all the lifts/jacks/tools.  If AOE can install, then I'd want em powder coated since I'm not taking them off again!
Title: Re: GROUP BUY - Skid Plates
Post by: Ghost65 on July 21, 2012, 09:33:29 PM
Powder coating the skids is a good thing.  Not to protect the bottoms...they will get scratched no matter what.  It's to protect the tops from rusting/etc. from oils/fluids collecting on the tops.

You can rattle can or bedline the bottoms from time to time to make them last. The other challenge with skid plates is that over time they become bent, or "tacoed" which sometimes makes a re-install after painting a little tricky.  The holes don't always line up after a few hits and scrapes.

Ray, can you double check on this with Alex?

There is a hole in my engine skid that allows for the draining of the engine oil.

I do remove my rad skid to replace the oil filter.  Newer models of the rad skid actually have a removable panel for access to the oil filter.

dubjay,

After talking to Alex from AOE, there will a hole in the engine skid that allows for the draining of the engine oil.

If you get a rad skid, you will have to remove the rad skid to replace the oil filter.  Newer models of the rad skid actually have a removable panel for access to the oil filter.

I just recieved confirmation that it will NOT be a problem fitting a AOE Engine Skid with a Hefty Rad Skid. Plus, it's customization shop, if it was a problem, Alex and the boys at AOE would take care of it.

I would love to get in on this deal, but $4,500.00 for a new transmission kind of depleted the modification funds.  On the bright side, I can see if how they hold up after you guy beat on them for a while before I buy. :D

Nope, you're still good  ;D I'm on vacation until next Wed. Alex at AOE4x4 is using my X as a guinee pig while I'm gone. He wants to make sure everyone else's skids fit perfectly. Contact him directly to get your order in. Just tell him you're from the club and want in on the skid plate group buy. He'll take care on you.

While you're at it, pick up some sliders too  ;)

I'm in Kauai with da fam, on a long over due vacation. I'm getting back to So Cal on Wed. Hopefully they'll be done  by then, but you never know. This is the 1st run of skid plates, for the Gen 2 Xterra's, for AOE4x4, and he wants to get em right.

Don't worry, I'm on Alex like white on rice.

To all my fellow Group Buyers,

I wanted to send out my sincere apologies for the delay in completing your skid plate order. Unfortunately, I have no control over this situation. Alex at AOE4x4 is having issues with his laser cutting guy. Apparently, the laser cutting machine has been out of commission recently. There's is no way to predict this issue.
