I'm a few blocks south of Fontana Nissan so I will be there. Count me in. Hey GhostX, can we get the club banner out there?
-
If I am in town I would love to go up for it! Maybe try to get a little caravan leaving from Escondido for the San Diego peeps and have a second stop in Corona or somewhere so we can all caravan and represent for SCCX?? :)
-
Let me talk to Scott, the Motorsports director there, and se if we can get some prime dedicated parking for us. I do need to have an acurate count se we need to confirm only serious attendees. For all you newbies, this would be a great opporunity to meet other members and check out the more-modified trucks in the area.
-
Irwin and Chad...I have updated the list.
Agree with Irwin, this will be a great opportunity for a social meet for new/seasoned members alike. I will try to get as accurate a list as I can so you can communicate with the dealership staff Irwin.
-
you can go ahead and throw my name down for this one. that would be fun!
-
Even though this is a Show N Shine, the shine part does not neccesarily apply to our trucks. In fact, the muddier, the better!
-
Ok, spoke to Scott and he said that for us to get parked together, we would have to caravan together and arrive together, and early. Otherwise, we park wherever theres room. They are expecting several hundred to attend.
-
Count me in on this! I'm down to get there early!
-

Thanks for making contact Irwin, appreciate that.
For those interested in attending, we can collectively decide the best time/meet spots along the way/arrival time. From looking at the posts over on CF, the event usually starts around 9-10am.
Maybe an early morning caravan up the 15 freeway, with strategic meet spots for everyone along the way? Post up your thoughts everyone!
Chad and Aram you are both added to the list. :)
-
I think that 1 meet spot may even be the best option. I am sure we can find a big shopping center parking lot near Fontana Nissan and then we can all caravan in from that point. I have organized large groups in vehicles for something like this in my past when I was on the Subaru WRX forums and 1 meet spot is definitely the easiest. I say we meet at like 830 or 9am somewhere that is like 1 exit from Fontana Nissan or something like that. If people want to do multiple meet spots to gather "steam" then I am okay with it. Just takes more planning!

This sounds like a good idea. As the event gets closer and we know more about the timing, we can set a time and place.
We may want an earlier time though, as the sense is the space is first come, first served with groups. Maybe meet at 7:30-8 in Fontana somewhere and then head over?
-
Yeah I'm all in for whatever!
I used to have meetups/canyon runs in the Subaru/Evo groups a lot and I kinda miss that so it's time to start doing more stuff with the X groups! (don't tell the gf, but it's her fault I don't participate as much! She plans so much stuff! Grrrrr!)
-
There is a big shopping center for us to meet on the north side of the 210 off of Citrus Ave. and Sierra Lakes Pkwy. on the west side with a brand new Autozone store, Farmers Boys Burger joint, and a Home Depot. If we park by the Autozone, we'll have great exposure and everyone coming off the freeway will be able to see us. From there, we can just hop to the otherside of the freeway and only 1/2 block to the dealership. There is a very large empty dirt lot across the street from the dealership. We can put the early arrivers on the street (@ 20 trucks in single line) and the rest (@ 100 vehicles staggered) on the dirt lot.
-
Rock on...if we do this in the early morning like y'all are proposing, then I can definitely attend.
-
I like the idea of meeting early close to the event. That, are ya'll going to gussy up your rigs for this? Or go all natural for this one?
-
Mine will most likely be clean. It usually is. Unless we can find a mud hole nearby, that might be kinda cool! :)
-
Actually, we can go offroad on a short trail run to Cleghorn Rd. right after the event if we go north on Sierra Ave. and jump on the 15 fwy N. for 10 min. The race cars are going to a race track afterwards, we can invite the truck owners to hit the trail.
-
Count me in! And I won't get lost this time. :)
-
As mentioned over in General Discussion, I have new Club Stickers available. $6 each or 2 for $10.

Morgan still has my club sticker but i think he will be back before that.

GhostX: I'll take one of those small SCCX stickers for sure...maybe even the big circle one as well if you have enough. I'll bring my cash to the meetup :-)
-

Irwin, that looks like a great final meet spot for everyone to arrive at. It's under a mile away from Fontana Nissan: http://g.co/maps/rgxvc
An early meet time like we've suggested sounds good: meeting at 7:30 or 8:00 AM.
I'm coming from Moreno Valley, going through Riverside up the 15 or 215.

Count me in John. I'm gonna go with my rig as dirty as possible ;) Hopefully I get my suspension lift finished by then.

-
Crap, I have to work Saturday night into the wee hours of Sunday morning so I don't think I will be able to make this one. I might take a break from work for GONE MOAB later in the month.
-
I might be in If I can make it from work
-
Update for everyone. The shopping center where we are going to be gathering at BEFORE the actual Meet & Greet is located at 16065 Sierra Lakes Pkwy, Fontana, CA 92336 which is by a brand new America's Tire Co., a new AutoZone, a Home Depot and a Farmer Boys Burgers where anyone can get breakfast & use the restrooms. I spoke with the manager of Americas tire & he was thrilled with us meeting there because it's a brand new store & they want exposure. They will, however, be closed on Sundays so he has asked us not to leave any trash. In exchange, we can use their entire parking area which has room for @ 80 trucks easily & great exposure on Citrus Ave. & also, coming off the 210 Fwy to the north. From there we drive back over the fwy to Fontana Nissan & enjoy the day. Anyone want to do Cleghorn Rd. OHV Trail afterwards? We should start gauging interest for that as well. We can start by going up Sierra Ave. past the 15 Fwy into Lytle Creek, take a short fire acces rd. over the mtn to Cleghorn..
-
I'll be at the meet, but I have to work afterwards, starting at 1 pm ish :P
-
I'm in for Cleghorn. Let's go wheeling!
-
I'm in to do some wheeling at Cleghorn afterwards.
Irwin, do you know about when we'll head out to the trail, or is it dependent on what events we'll all have at the meet?
-
woo...sounds like a fun filled day!! i'm in!
-
I read on the Fontana Nissan facebook page that the meet is from 9am to 1pm. I don't think we'll need to stay til 1 tho...
-
We can decide on the trail run start time once there at the Meet & Greet. I'm still not very familiar with Cleghorn Road trail. Only ran it once & I know there are several trails up there. I would prefer someone with more experienced would lead but we'll see.
-
According to the "Guide to California Backroads and 4-wheel drive Trails" book, Cleghorn Ridge is rated easy but there are many optional sideroads that range from moderate to difficult. It says the difficult trails are easy to spot and can't really be confused with the easier ones. I kinda wanna go up there next weekend to track it on my gps for future reference.
-
Yeah, I got the same book. I'll see if I can pre-run the trail before the event so we know what conditions to expect. I'll check with Steven from RUGGED ROCKS since he's just a few miles from where Ilive.
-
Hey guys...I have been out of town and will be back in Cali this Friday.
I spoke with Randy (RBDuffer) and Usko99 (Steve) about Cleghorn, and it can get difficult pretty quickly with some of the side roads, so be careful in planning any stockers heading up there. Definitely not a 2WD pursuit.
Irwin- I got your PM, and maybe we can just handle the Cleghorn interest list when we get there and plan from Fontana Nissan? Thanks for all the efforts with the auto parts gathering spot. I am sure we will leave the area spotless. CITO! (Carry In, Trash Out)
We still have a lot of time before this kicks off, and with everyone's personal lives, GONEMoab in the near future, plus Mods going on for different vehicles, it will probably be another last minute shuffle of the deck for this run.
Keep in mind everyone...the Club is looking for events such as this where we can get together socially and meet and have fun, as well as all the great trail runs for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks everyone for the supportive posts, looking forward to seeing some friends and making new ones as well! :)
John, GhostX
-
For Cleghorn: from what I've seen so far, the side routes intersect with the main trail often. What if the 2WD guys stuck to the main trail and then reconnected whenever both groups are on the main road? If we plan to go off on a 4WD-only trail that doesn't connect back, no problem, just was wondering.
-
I haven't been in a while but last time I went it was 2wd friendly with some short spurs that were more difficult.
-
I call the other yellow short bus Duke .. He should be there as well
-
That is what the pre-run is for, so we can see how the rain changed things up there. John (GhostX) is right, though. If we are going to have lots of newbies up there with stock trucks, we need to make sure the trail is safe and suitable for them as well.
-
Sounds good, thanks!
Woah, I just saw that In-N-Out tent in the flyer. ;D Hopefully the'll be there for this year's event!

Looks like David and I will be there to meet everyone
-
Well everyone, sorry about this, but I am swapping out my front R180 in preparation for my Moab trip at the end of May, and the only shop time I could get was for the 6th of May! :'(
I am officially out for this Xcursion, as I need the shop time to get my build done in time for GoneMoab.
So, I am reposting and giving Irwin (superslidestyle) the reins on this run.
Irwin...please PM me your address to I can mail you a few stickers to get to the group that will be attending this Xcursion.
-
You will all tremble under my iron fist! Ha ha ha! Aww, c'mon that was funny. I'll be doing the Cleghorn pre-run this week so if anyone has any questions, call my cell phone anytime. Irwin 909.two27.four6two1.
-
Irwin, let us know when you wanna do the pre-run for cleghorn. I'm open saturday or sunday.
-
Okay everyone, now that Irwin has you all trembling...lol, :D
I would like to get a list of people interested in the Club stickers for this event so I can get the right number and style to Irwin asap.
Please let me know if you want the original black ball sticker or the new SCCX die cut and I will mail to Irwin for distribution at the Meet & Greet.
Thanks! :)
John, GhostX
-
GhostX: Let me get one of each sticker please :-) Sorry you won't make it.

John, I'll take just two of the die-cut text stickers. Thanks!
Got it Alex. OP updated.
-
Hey Superslide.
if you're going to prerun Cleghorn this Sat. I would like to come along and show you what I learned last month about the different trails.
The main trail is 2WD, the off shoots are moderate with lockers , the wrong turn about 3/4 through is difficult! Not sure if I can make the 6th, I'll keep you posted.
-
I am curious how this trail is. I was considering bringing my truck out too, but it is mostly stock. If Nick had to pull me out of something, he would never let me hear the end of it. :P
-
Cleghorn is fine to run stock, just stick to the 2WD bypasses for any hard stuff. 3/4 of the way to the lake, the trail forks and gets harder (with a squeeze) but you can go the other way and just take a book or enjoy a snack while you wait for folks to finish up.
BTW, I'm a bit ticked off at the moment with Fontana Nissan...had some regular maintenance done this weekend and they tried to upsell me on $400 worth of additional service items, on a ~55K 2009 XTerra. Supposedly I need to have them remove carbon deposits from my cylinders and throttle body...WTH? Still plan to go to the meet up but I might skip the actual dealership part.
-
There's a "How-To" on TheNewX.org that you can follow about removing carbon from the throttle body. I did it on my previous X, and noticed a slight difference in performance. Screw that $400 number, that's ridiculous.
FYI, Shi and I might be missing out on this event, I'll know whether or not by tomorrow evening.
-
Sorry guys that I haven't gotten back to you sooner on the Cleghorn pre-run. Just started a new job at a construction site in Victorville so I will pre-run it during the week on my way home down the 15 fwy. I do have several trail maps of Cleghorn so we should miss the tough parts altogether, keep it easy for the stock trucks.
I was also thinking that we can start the run on the day of the meet by going up Sierra Ave. headed north past the 15 fwy. into Lytle Creek, and take an easy, 20 minute, 2WD friendly fire acces road at AppleWhite Rd. (2N53) over the Mtn. straight to the 15 fwy and the start of the Cleghorn trail on the other side. From there, anyone can go home on the 15 fwy. or continue to the main trail run.
-
I may go to this. I have to go up there anyway because I have a friend building me a bumper so I'll just leave my truck with him. The only thing worse than the drive from San Diego to get there at 7:30 is the thought of having to wash my truck.
P.S. I'll need two spaces so I can deploy the roof top tent ;D
-
Well if BlackX is going, I might have to go as well. Sounds like a fun event though, and I keep meaning on getting out and meeting you guys. Life has a way of always interfering, but this could surprisingly work out.
-
Well Shi and I are still in for this! Just means we'll be washing both our X's the night before (still trying to convince her to pick up that Pro-4X Fronty).
-
Heh, he just wants me to get it so he can play with my truck. Silly rabbit...
-
Count me in. totally been itching for some dirt... Have a few laggers which I wont mention.. Ahheemm.. Lol
-
Hey everyone. So one of the guys from Club Frontier PMed me because I had mentioned something on there about a month ago about a possible caravan. I responded telling him to post up this thread for that meetup point information.
Does anyone care if the CF guys come on the Cleghorn run afterwards as well? Just making sure before I share that info with them!
-
Ok, I did the pre-run today after work and everything seems great. The recent rain has given us a very green, very scenic trail. As long as its sunny, this should be a very relaxing drive.
Looking forward to seeing you all there. 8-)

Just clarifying, this is where we are meeting before...but was there a time decided? Aim to be there by____, or leaving that parking lot no later then____?
Simply curious so I don't get up too early. :)
-
For the caravan meet BEFORE the actual meet and greet, we can shoot for 8:30am by Amer icas tires, then At 9am, caravan over to Fontana Nissan for the actual event which is the Nissam Owmers Meet. The SCCX meet and greet is simply taking place at that event. I want to make sure we are all clear on that.
As for the Cleghorn run, yes,. of course the club Frontier guys can join us. The idea is to invite anybody. The more, the merrier! We just need to make sure everyone reads the XCURSION GUIDELINES and COMMUNICATION section before attending an actual run, so everyone brings the minimum suggested gear for a safe and pleasant trip.
-
Okay everyone, a BIG thanks to Irwin/Superslidestyle for taking the lead on this run!
I am shipping the banner and stickers TODAY (holy crap FedEx is expensive!, lol) so everyone that requested stickers will have them for Sunday.
Irwin: I will send a few extra just in case.
Have fun everyone!!
-
Banners and stickers sent. ;D

Make sure Irwin takes a pic with everyone behind the Club banner and post up!!
Thanks!
-
what up?! im from CF. i was wandering if i could meet up with you guys?
-
Sure, all makes and models welcomed with open arms!
Reminder to all: first part of run is an easy fire trail with no obstacles, just great mtn. top scenery. This one ends where Cleghorn Road starts. This one I'm going to rate 4-5 on a scale of 1 to 10. High clearance highly recommended and do-able in 2WD.
-
Expect to do @ 3 hrs. (+/- 30 mins.) for Cleghorn Road.
-
Erick and I are in. We are meeting at Shell Station on Via Rancho pkwy off I-15 in Escondido if anyone from San Diego wants to caravan. It's about 1:45 drive to Fontana so meet at 6:45?

Will be good with stock suspension on Cleghorn? I have an SE 4x4 with some Toyo Open Country MT's. No running boards, skids, or rock sliders quite yet..
-
Yes , tiat should make it. You might struggle a bit going up but you should be fine.
-
I'm sorry, but I am unable to attend the meet and great Sunday morning. Ofcourse, work trumps all the best made plans. But if I can get done early enough, I would like to try to catch up with you follks either at Fontana Nissan or Cleghorn. What CB channel might you be monitoring?

To clarify this, it's the one on the West side of the freeway (at North County Fair)...and yes there is a Starbucks in that shopping center too. :)
-
I may be meeting you guys in Escondido. 6:45am? Ugh. I hate getting up early on weekends but I shall try. Can one or both of you guys send me a PM with your phone numbers?
If I miss you guys in Esco I'll be close behind you! I'm coming from Santee.
FYI, from what it looks like on Google Maps, North County Fair is on the East side of Highway 15. Please clarify with an address...
-
Yeah I suppose that wasn't clear. The gas station and Starbucks are both on the West side of the 15, so you take a left on the exit and it's immediately on your right.
Here is the Starbucks address:
3440 Del Lago Blvd.
Suite G
Escondido, CA 92029
What I was failing to try and communicate, was that the exit is the exit one would take off the freeway to get to North County Fair; but as you pointed out North County Fair is on the East side of the freeway.
-
Awesome! Plan on leaving that spot about 6:55 or 7am I am guessing?
-
Is there a limit to the number of trucks that can be in any one group on Cleghorn Trail does anyone know?
Also, make sure you guys all pre-register so you don't have to wait in a long line to register when we get to Fontana Nissan.... http://www.nissanraceshop.com/page/64-64/cuatro-meeto-preregistration

Noted. Thank you!
-
Is anyone from OC going? If so want to caravan?
I'm going to try my best to make it. I'm in Aliso Viejo. If I do, let's caravan. If not, let's hit some local trails soon.
PM me anytime

According to Google Maps, we should be getting to Fontana between 8:15am and 8:30am from Escondido..

for those who are driving north on the 15th from SD are ill be here (look at pic) on the 7/11 parking lot. most likely with mastagrog. hey blackX what time do you want us to be there? [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
-
I think 7:30 at the 7-11 on Winchester. Sent you a PM with my info.
-
We all need to be at Americas Tires @ 8:30am. If we caravan together, we park together. Any stragglers park wherever there's parking available. There might be media there. Just keep that in mind.
-
Irwin will have a Club Banner...someone please take a picture with the group and the banner! ;D
-
UPDATE! In N Out burgers will NOT BE THERE. That was last year's picture. This year, Chronic Tacos will be providing the food and drinks. Also, there will be @ 20 vendors there and several free raffles. It is very important that you pre-register BEFORE going to the event so you can get your free raffle tickets. Otherwise you WILL have to wait in a really long line to register there.

Hah. That actually makes me feel better, I registered but really didn't see any confirmation or validation of it (not even an email). I'm taking this to mean I'm not the only one.

Yes Ryan, you can come to the meet but you would have to be at least 18 if you were to go on the trail run.
-
okay thank you

Ditto.
Nick, I've got your rim. If I don't make the pre-meet, I'll see you at Nissan for sure!
-
Not gonna make it. :( I have been so freakin hungover all day. I can tell this one is going to be lingering tomorrow as well. Bummer. Have fun and take lots of pictures!

No worries. Jeff and I will still be at the Starbucks/Shell by North County Fair and leaving by 6:45am, and 7:30 at the 7-11 on Winchester. Hope to see some of you guys at those spots.

Ha ha! Just drove by the dealer Sat. night @ 9 pm. and they're already unloading race cars and cleared the east side of the whole lot for the event!
-
I've been hiding under a rock for a while. Still planning on being at the pre-event meet spot. JT sounds like you aren't going to make it? Sorry to hear that.
I was on dirt today so my X will be dirty tomorrow.
-
Yeah, mines dirty too. Been dirty since Thursday when I did the pre-run on Cleghorn. Haven't had time to wash it.

Yep, I am out for this one. I am doing some Moab prep work Max, so please have some fun and take a few pics of the group for me. I sent the Club banner to Irwin/Superslidestyle and a hand full of stickers, so it should be a fun day.
Thanks again Irwin!
-
Okay this stinks. Life is getting in the way today and I'm probably out. I'm still trying to go but don't wait for me. Have fun!!
-
Thanks to everyone who attended. We represented the Xterra's and the offroad community in a big way. Wait till you see the pics! We showed those 350ZX guys not to mess with us, cause you get the back seat and get put on hold!
-
Had fun today guys. Wish I could have made the run though. Y'all have really bad ass xterras and frontiers. Look forward to some pics and also another run soon. It was fun hanging with a good group of guys.
-
i must say wow!!!! i have never been so proud of my truck b4, it performed outstanding on the trails. so many awesome compliments from everyone. and yes all your rigs looked great as well. best part was meeting all of you.
-

Glad everyone made the meet n' greet and Cleghorn run!
Big thanks to Irwin Jiminez/Superslidestyle for helping to coordinate this event!
However, I just have one thing to say.....

I got home ok @ 8pm. I do realize that I need a cb radio or ham radio pretty bad. FRS just doesn't cut it anymore. I'd also like to thank Steven from RuggedRocks.com for pushing us a bit to do the harder sections and thus, giving us more confidence in our rigs.
-
It was a good day on the trail!!
I have no problem leading everyone...straight into trouble. ;D
In all honesty I hope everyone had fun and didn't feel pressured into anything. I like it when people have fun but I definitely don't intend on getting people in over their heads.
As far as radios go, in my experience, the FRS radios don't really work all that well, CB's get us by and Ham radios knock it out of the park. Once upon a time I was juggling an FRS, a CB and a Ham in my truck while Leading runs... it was insane!
The FRS radios quickly faded out, the CBs are still there but the ham radios have really taken over among the guys that I wheel with most often.
For more information on ham radio check out this blog post I wrote back on '09
http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/blog/2009/09/10/ham-radio-on-the-trail/
It was also awesome meeting customers out there this weekend, I really appreciate your business and support.
I look forward to wheeling with you all again in the near future.
I also plan on doing a lot of wheeling this summer so please feel free to jump on the rugged rocks board as well with suggestions on what trails you guys what to run next.
I'll lead just about any trail in southern California with the exception of the Hammers in Johnson Valley for obvious reasons (the exception to the exception being smaller trails in johnson valley like fisher mtn and some other smaller fun stuff out there. are you confused yet?)
One more thing, I'd really like to mention SCCX and use some pictures from yesterdays run in the next Rugged Rocks e-mail newsletter if it's ok with those that took them, but regardless I'd like to see the pics vids from yesterday!!
-
was GREAT to see everyone and had a good time. Was really impressed with Aram's rig! Man that thing is epic. A lot of cool Nissan street machines too as well as a rare Skyline GTR. Now if I saw some picts that would complete the awesomensss!
-
Took these with my phone, but here's how we looked at Fontana Nissan. Sorry I had to leave early, but I had to do a few errands before I reported for work at 1 PM.

I absolutely loved that squeeze! It was hellacious going through it, but a blast!
-
Wow awesome pics. I am sorry I missed it, but munchkin and I were feeling crappy. Glad you guys had fun! :)
-
Great pics, thanks for posting!
-
Thanks Irvin for making this happen!
I had plenty fun, thank you for allowing this stock vehicle in your convoy. Next time I hope to have sliders, then won't hold you guys up or take the easy route around.
All of you have awesome builds, and gave me some ideas....now to find the cash and a workshop

I cant believe I missed that squeeze obstacle! Oh well there's always next time. It looked sweet tho, especially with that three-wheel pic of Nick's rig. Next time I'll have an upgraded radiator to deal with the overheating problem. I'll swap the supercharged model radiator right in, since it's double the size of my stock one, and I'll be out there next time with the AC on haha.
It was great meeting and talking with all you guys this sunday. Saw some familiar faces and met some new people; all of you had some great looking rigs. I wanna thank Irwin for getting us the parking spots he did, otherwise we might have got turned away. One of the highlights was definitely when we passed up that long line of 350z's to get into the parking lot ;D
And steevo thanks for taking turns sharing lead with Irwin on the trail. Your pathy is a beast. I really thought it would be YEARS before I would even think about SASing, but now there's a good possibility I'll be attempting it next year..
Here are the pictures I took with my phone. Enjoy.

Looks like you did a great job on setting this whole thing up Irwin - both the meet and the run afterwards.
-
Awesome pics guys! :o

No, I just got lucky, I guess. Had to much riding on this. Just glad everyone had a good time. The puctures do look great though. I was nice seeing an Xterra with the pop-up tent. That was epic.

Look for magazine coverage on this event in DSport import racing magazine for June or July 2012!
