Title: Coyote Canyon
Post by: Celt on March 16, 2014, 07:19:26 PM
Was in Borrego this weekend and grabbed a couple quick pics of the steps on Coyote Canyon, the park service has sure dumbed the trail down a lot. The stream is almost completely dry. I did however see more Xterras in that area than I ever have before.

At least the scorpion and grasshopper did not seem to mind.

I'd like to get out there to see that metal work one of these days.

Yeah it's pretty neat stuff and all over the place out there.

That scorpion is pretty cool, but it's got a nasty sting. This is why I've not been around here in a while. It's been a long recovery period (but at least I got the photo).

That probably left a mark...welcome back Frank!

Celt-I've seen the changes the park service made to this cool trail.  When I spoke with a ranger he stated that the effort was made at the water crossing to protect some of the wildlife that use the area from the chemicals vehicles leave when driving through the water.

I suppose...but IMO the trail now attracts more people because of the overall changes made for ease of accessibility. Sheep Canyon used to be a cool secluded spot. Hopefully it doesn't change too much.

Exactly the topic of discussion we have had lately on some of the trips. Fish Creesk Wash has had a ton of man made changes to it. I just don't get it. They don't want people in there because the higher vehicle/people traffic harms the environment in their minds but then they go and make it completely accessable. It seems like what they are trying to do is just have a few roadways that everyone can get into and shut a lot of other stuff completely off. Pumpkin patch area is really bad with the areas they have closed for habitat restoration. I wonder who actually gets to decide all of this and under what criteria? Wait a minute could this have anything to do with being a gubment operation??? Hmmmmmmmmm.........   :o
