Aw man...this looks so fun but I have snowboard races in Mammoth that weekend.
Another time.

Does anyone plan on going on a trip soon after that?

I know it's almost 2 weeks away, but it sounds like a lot of new people may be on this run, so I'll throw out a few suggestions and things to consider (and try not to sound like anyone's mother while I'm at it, since everyone should be old enough to take care of themselves):

- There is apparently a lot of snow up in Big Bear right now (I heard tonight that the area is closed to all but local traffic). That could mean a lot of water in the canyon, which could add to difficulty (and fun, depending on your tires and point of view).

- Depending on the conditions the CHP could well require chains up there, so it might be prudent to carry a set just in case. Last couple of years the club turned down Burns Canyon instead of continuing all the way up in to BB.  I spoke with Mitch earlier tonight, he mentioned that some friends from a Bronco club were up on 2N02 or near there and found the snow to be too deep.

- Someone asked about 2WD - the first time I did this run there was a 2WD pickup in the group. He spent most of the time strapped to the back of an Xterra, starting in the sand before we even got up into the canyon itself. I don't recommend it, especially when it's so wet.

- Please heed Bobby's earlier advice about traveling through the private ranch land. Also, that website that Oz linked earlier had some good info. If you saw that photo I posted in the other thread, those cattle have pretty sharp horns, but to not upset them.

- In the past a secondary meet spot was often set up at the trailhead, for people coming in from other than the south. Or, as Oz mentioned, somewhere off of I-15 on the way to the trailhead.  I would suggest exchanging cell phone numbers if you plan to meet anywhere other than at the Chevron.

- Most of all: Have a good time.

I concure with Mother's advice.
I'd rather be happy than right any day.

This is a great trail, should be fun  ;D for everybody but yeah 4 wheel drive for sure.

There is a couple of rocky parts but you can get through stock if you're carefull, take the step rails off and sliders will help.  The sand is the wash can be loose in places so keept the mo gowing and you will be fine.

Make sure to take the side spur to the mine, couple of optional dry waterfalls we always play around on.  Normally a good spot for lunch right at the base of the mine.

Wish I could go but that's Michael's birthday and he has his party and a basketball game that day so I'm out.   Have fun and be safe.

My wife and I plan on being there, this will be our first run (with you guys).

The first thing I did to my x was take off my sidesteps and mud flaps.

Looking forward to meeting you guys.  I plan on bringing a couple video cameras as well to film the action.

Taken from the 2008 run. Would this work as a meet spot/time?

Yes, works great.  See you there.

i am FULL ON IN.  i will be coming from the north (Edwards AFB) but if you guys wanna meet up on the west side of the mountain and caravan over thatd be sweet.  as long as i have a good address i can meet anyone anywhere.  Jake (xterradude) and i ran rattle snake canyon (correction: we did rattlesnake to burns canyon, 2N02  into big bear) over easter in 2008.  it is a BLAST  im stocked to see what its going to be like with the snow thats up there.  i have no problem tucking the tail if i need to.  Oz  i got yo numba so i'll keep in touch.  i need to find a place for a GOOD tow strap and maybe (fingers crossed for wife approval) a hi lift kit (cheezy come-a-long and all).  i havent been on the boards in a LONG time (both here and at the new x) but if theres any AV xterras out there hti me up for some weeekend fun! i live in Rosamond now!
