 Tonight I was in the Ooda loop of Youtube hell and came across this video. I've never made a fire exactly like it but it seems in theory similar in some ways to a Dakota fire pit and thought you may enjoy it and give it a try:

I cooked a piece of chicken in my backyard on a Dakota Fire , it's amazing how even the heat is
(if Les Stroud builds a fire I try it)
