Hello from Huntington Beach...
« on: August 03, 2018, 09:20:04 PM »
Hey All....
This is a return of sorts. I had an original 2011 X (I traded in a Jeep Rubicon in on it, thats a story for another time). I didn't get out with this group, however I did do tons of solo camping expeditions. She served me well and never let me down. She was traded in a few years ago on a big truck, which I thought would do the same thing... I was sadly mistaken however. It could do all the off road things, But lacked the charm of the Xterra, Which I named "TerraCon" as a joke cause I used to take off road trips with guys from work who all drove Rubicons.
Anyway..... A few months back, the boss asked me if I was happy with the truck and had to be honest and admit to her that getting rid of my TerraCon was a mistake. She took pity on me and told me to go buy another. So last month I found my new baby! A 2014 Silver Pro 4-X, with 25,000 miles and no real damage to speak of. Body is strait as an arrow, engine runs great and everything seems to work! Why a Pro 4-X? I don't want to do all the lift thing and make a bunch of changes... Just want to drive it!
Of course I will do a couple of things, CB (had one in the Terracon, mounted in the armrest with a 4 ft firestick on the driverside with a Fourtreks clamp.... SWR was super low and the antenna was super high. Will do it this way again, maybe mount in a different location. RinoRack 2.0 on the passenger side with a wind break and extension. Compressor in the storage box and a roof rack... Just have not picked the one yet.
Sorry, didn't intend this to be so long winded. I am a Vet (actually retired... Gunslinger2N was my call sign during my last deployment. My given name is Jeff) and the good news is with my current job I have every other friday off so looking forward to some trips!

Welcome to SCCX
Make sure you put the Antenna on Passenger side
something about the gas cap side can run interference with CB

Jayrat,
Thats Interesting about the gas cap/CB info. I didn't seem to have that problem with the first install. As stated in my into I had a super good SWR and was getting several more miles than average out of it, perhaps because the tip of the antenna was way off the ground and well above the fuel tank and cap. However I seem to be learning more now that I have a few years on me. I will take your advice and further research it! Thanks.

Something about Angus comes to mind.

The above quote is what a was referring to. Are you licensed? not HAMM as in comedian. I am a CB purest, and actually one of those guys who follow the rules. I guess I feel like when the the zombies kill the power grid and all of the repeaters drop, CB will have way more population than simplex AMR.
